Is there going to be another pandemic

This winter?

Seen a couple of people posting about it, tbf they are conspiracy types, but I have anxiety after having covid & long covid and can’t go through all that again. Can anyone reassure me?

Given that you haven't even been able to keep your own argument about this scenario consistent, your feelings about whether mine is convincing don't mean much. One minute you were saying people would definitely comply if children were threatened, the next we just couldn't possibly say.

I don't claim to be all knowing. You crack on though.

I think there are various possibilities tbh.

And because you are completely definitive in your answers you are even less convincing.

Because it is all speculation.

There were a wide variety of reactions to the initial Covid outbreak from different countries and here you are lecturing on "what will be ".

sunglassesonthetable · 30/08/2023 08:47

*Although actually @Rosejasmine I may have been a bit more arsey in tone to you there than you deserved, so apols for that.

You did just ask it as a question without feeling the need to arrogantly assure people or frame it as some kind of gotcha like some of the earlier contributors to the thread.*

🤣🤣. 🤣🤣

Nobody said you did? Let's not be strawmanning.

And if you wanted to tell people they were less convincing because of their answers being definitive, the time for that was before you gave your own unconvincing definitive answer. It's always telling when people only think an issue is nuanced once a gopping flaw in their position has been pointed out.

I suppose its either the smilies or come up with a reason why your anecdote about parents during covid tells us anything about what would happen if parents as a whole were afraid of their children dying. Can see why you'd choose the smilies option tbh!

chaosmaker · 30/08/2023 08:58

Channel 4 news yesterday had a bit on pandemics towards the end. Too many people on the planet don't help.

So this is aimed at the people who swear they will never adhere to another lockdown:
what about a disease that has a 10% death rate, or worse, something really unspeakably horrible like Ebola ?
I really hope and think you would comply.
The worry I have is the conspiracy lunatics who would say it was all fake, even when faced with the evidence.

In that case though, wouldn't it be a Darwin Theory situation and they'd just kill themselves off mostly?

I don't really have " a position " . And I haven't particularly researched this subject.

I'm here because I'm interested.

There are probably a hundred flaws in any "arguments " I'd put across.

But at least I acknowledge nuance and possibility.

And I'm not lording it over this thread , telling people off for questions, correcting people and dishing out lectures as if you were left with the keys to every existing government .

sunglassesonthetable · 30/08/2023 09:06

You are just a bod on MN like everyone else @PinkCherryBlossoms

Funny, you had a position when you said you reckoned if children were threatened there'd be total compliance. No nuance in that one either!

I expect that was just fine though and not lecturing, lording over yada yada, because that's usually the way with hypocrisy. Do as you say, not as you do!

Meanwhile, shall we give up hope of an explanation as to the relevance of your anecdote, fellow MN bod?

sunglassesonthetable · 30/08/2023 09:17

I did .
And?

I also said we'd need a good plan to make it work and I don't have that plan.

PinkCherryBlossoms · 30/08/2023 09:21

Yep, you tried walking it back afterwards. You still said it though, which means you're in something of a pot kettle black situation here.

sunglassesonthetable · 30/08/2023 09:27

It's what I thought. Still do really. 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it's rubbish. But as yet the WHO hasn't come knocking for my opinion so I don't have a totally thorough plan.

I'll leave that to you. I think this thread clearly shows that you have the correct opinions.

I hope no one asks anymore annoying questions. So you have to repeat yourself mid lecture.

In that case, we'll flip it and I'll ask you a question. One you clearly find annoying, or perhaps just inconvenient, because you've ignored it several times.

What does your anecdote about the actions of some parents during covid tell us about how parents would behave if all had reason to fear for their children's lives? You were quite insistent that it was relevant, so I'm sure there must be a reason and you weren't just full of yourself.

Are you my teacher? Am I at school. ?

And no there's only one person on here that is insistent and full of themselves.

I made a comment. Between the washing up and a glass of wine.

You're the one delivering the lectures on what the world WILL DO next time.

As did you, hypocrite. Pot kettle black.

Knew you'd come back, btw. I can always tell. I'm glad you did, it's always funny when people start feeling persecuted because someone asks them to back up their point.

Persecuted. Oh give over.

I just think you sound really rude and full of yourself. Especially telling people off for having to REPEAT yourself.

I think on just word count alone you can see who's delivering lectures . It's all here.

Maybe you are the head of the UN Council or World Leader on down time. Who knows?

Saw something about a new strain ( yes another!!)

Why are you surprised there is another new strain? Viruses have to mutate to survive, that leads to new strains. The Flu is the same, every year they have to predict what the major strains will be so they can vaccinate against them. They do this based on the strains from the other side of the world in their winter that proceeds ours. That's why we get colds repeatedly. Otherwise the first time we caught a cold we would create antibodies against it and never catch one again. The cold virus mutates, and there is a new strain that we are not immune to, therefore we are susceptible and catch a cold again if we come into contact with it.

pollymere · 30/08/2023 10:31

We usually get a pandemic every fifty years or so and they last a couple of years. If you look at the data of the one that happened a hundred years ago, it came in waves. We've already had most of the waves of this one. We also have the benefit of vaccination with this one. The fact they only offered boosters to the very ill demonstrates that this one is probably on its way out now.

Mmm, I can see that you do actually think this. You genuinely dont think you're a hypocrite.

That lack of self awareness, plus your obvious irritation, is what's made your self appointed moral guardian efforts this morning so entertaining. Especially the inability to contain yourself to one post at a time. That's always fun!

Hmmm, self awareness 👍🏻

sunglassesonthetable · 30/08/2023 10:51

Never contain myself to one post. Because = fun. 🙄 I bet you're all over the internet with your 'rules'

Off now because it's boring for everyone else.

Have a great day.

People who post more arguments and then tell us they're off now are so tragic, really. The dignified exit has long gone. You'd well passed it the first time you told us you weren't coming back.

Maybe we need a pool to see how many times you'll fail to actually leave when you've said you would. It's two incomplete flounces so far, I reckon maybe five before this evening?
