This winter?

Seen a couple of people posting about it, tbf they are conspiracy types, but I have anxiety after having covid & long covid and can’t go through all that again. Can anyone reassure me?

Excellent, I love getting to take free shots.

Especially at people who start derailing when they're backed into a corner and who cant even recognise their own double standards, let alone address them.

Meanwhile, we never did get to hear about why that anecdote was relevant. Sadface time.

OCaptain · 30/08/2023 11:46

@Hihellogoodbye

Have you ever listened to Russell Brown / Jordan Peterson /Matt Walsh/ Dr Saad and so many others silenced by the mainstream media? - these people are constantly trying to create awareness but I guess we shouldn’t listen to them as they use YouTube / Spotify /Rumble and other platforms such as these. They are the ones telling us the truth and providing a clear picture on so many issues .

Um. I really don't believe these are necessarily beacons of truth, either.

Lingfield01 · 30/08/2023 12:23

Viruses are circulating all the time. The human race has survived this long alongside them. Stop worrying, folk just love spreading panic and drama.

RobertaFirmino · 30/08/2023 12:35

Perhaps there will be - who knows? If there is, we know how to deal with it. Just make a few preparations, check there are masks at home, get a couple of hand sans in and buy ONE extra essential each week. Perhaps you could get the C....... shopping started to reduce the chances of having to go in crowded shops come December. Don't go overboard, no good ever comes from that but you will feel less anxious if you can take control.

T1Dmama · 30/08/2023 12:59

As with flu I think it’s reasonable to expect outbreaks of covid every year now for the foreseeable future. Winter always brings with it Flu’s and pneumonia… we can just add covid 19 too now… we’ve never locked down for flu though so I wouldn’t stress about it too much,

Not people pretending to care about others again 🥱
Wanting another lockdown is coming from the people with no friends or social life who can stay at home again in their pj's and not feel like weirdos, whilst being paid for doing fuck all, except of course bossing everyone else around for being uncaring whilst pretending they are saving the world.
It's self indulgence of the most selfish, needy, fake kind.

I wish there was a like button. Agree 100 percent

@PinkCherryBlossoms

People who post more arguments and then tell us they're off now are so tragic, really. The dignified exit has long gone. You'd well passed it the first time you told us you weren't coming back.

The arrogance is off the charts with you. Your modus operandi is to hound posters off a thread for simply questioning something you have written. You must be very delicate.

JenniferBooth · 30/08/2023 14:15

O Captain Do you insult everyone who doesnt agree with you.

sunglasses since you keep bring up pandemic scenarios where children are more badly affected and you are sure that society wouldnt collapse ( i agree with Pink I think it would) is that sure feeling coming from the fact that you think the childfree should go out and keep the country running and take the hit?

Oh dear god 🙄

I'm not SURE

I don't KEEP bringing it up.

And of course I bloody DON'T. Are you mad?

It sounds like you are literally LOOKING for something to cry about?

You couldn't make it up.

SomeCatFromJapan · 30/08/2023 14:23

I have never personally thought the IFR of covid justified the response. The lockdowns had imo far worse financial and social consequences than was justified by the risks. And now we're paying for it, literally.
I also don't think it would have played out like that had it not originated in China and had that not been their response.
It was quite a depressing insight into the human psyche though - the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany) came to mind a lot during that time.

Apologies you got the sharp end of my tongue.

Your grasp on reality is delicate.

Is it possible to get things back on track a bit? I think it’s important to hear all view points and to challenge without being snipey. It is an interesting discussion.

PinkCherryBlossoms · 30/08/2023 17:46

Fair point.

I thought @SomeCatFromJapan made an interesting point about whether things would've unfurled the same way if covid had originated somewhere other than China. Maybe not. They did essentially set the parameters.

WhalePolo · 30/08/2023 18:45

I think there is an issue when a pathogen ‘jumps’ from animal to human. And I read an article where loss of habitat etc is meaning animals that would never normally come into contact with humans are, which increases the risks. Many potential issues have historically arisen from African or Asian countries - but could arise anywhere. But there is maybe a greater chance of that human/animal contact in these countries, or where there is heavy deforestation. Countries may vary in the facilities they have to detect a potential problem, monitor and control? Or how willing they are to be transparent about the problem? So global cooperation is needed.

Retiredfromearlyyears · 30/08/2023 18:52

Jason Leitch was on fairly recently saying that there is a variant expected to have some impact later this year. No point in worrying before it's actually here though. Hopefully ,it will be a milder variant.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 30/08/2023 19:06

The new variant has been detected in the UK, and the vaccine programme has been brought forwards by a few weeks because of that.

We don't really know what sort of disease pattern (acute or incidence of long covid) it will bring

Autumn Covid vaccine programme brought forward after new variant detected in UK | The Independent

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/08/2023 20:18

Mild variant, or not, long-term effects of repeated exposure are unknown. Best course is not to get it.

HoppingDragon · 30/08/2023 22:19

It's all a fuss over nothing.

Angrywife · 30/08/2023 23:22

Lastchancechica · 28/08/2023 16:35

The new strain has been circulating for weeks in Denmark, Switzerland, US and London. ( All highly careful countries that have strict monitoring policies in place)

It is causing concern because lots of patients are being hospitalised in the US.

My neighbour has it currently still ill, on week 4.

Not ideal - but I am not locking down again either way.

I find it interesting people say they won't lock down again.

So if schools close, shops close, offices send us all home again. What exactly will all of you do that isn't locking down? Spend every day round your mates like a teenager?

JenniferBooth · 31/08/2023 00:09

Well not my mates exactly 😉

Wishfulthinking1977 · 31/08/2023 00:59

Another lockdown for whatever reason would now ultimately bankrupt the country. I do understand what people are saying as in what would you do, People would not comply! As in shops would either still open and have police stopping them, hairdressers, pubs, food industries etc would operate from household locations. As others have said the people outnumber the police and the army 10 to 1, there would be absolutely no way to stop it! Lockdowns were absolutely wasted on this type of virus, which in the future as others have said will be the problem if anything that needs one arises! Addressing other points, it was definitely good for those who had nice spaces (I was one of those) but I wouldn't do it again! Where kids are mentioned I think that if a virus that targeted them then it would be more of keep them at home and protect those looking after them. Perhaps a gbd in reverse?! And for those who say it's better to not keep catching it, how exactly? No method has been proved ever to stop you catching a virus. I personally think better and early treatments and better sick pay would help? But unfortunately we spent all that money on furlough.
