This winter?

Seen a couple of people posting about it, tbf they are conspiracy types, but I have anxiety after having covid & long covid and can’t go through all that again. Can anyone reassure me?

Just out of interest, people who say if there was another lockdown'there's no way on god's green earth that I/my family etc would ever comply.. blah blah so there!' Etc, if there was another one, and schools closed again/ shops shut etc, how would you massive defiance work?

You'd still have your kids stuck at home! Defiance would be pretty pointless as there'd be no where to go, so would you jyst defiantly stalk up and down the road, being.. defiant..?

Well, people can't force schools or pubs or restaurants to open or force governments to open borders.

But there's not a lot that governments can do to stop people from walking about outside as they please, having meals and beers at friends' houses to socialize instead of going to pubs and restaurants, and getting their kids together in groups to do the stupid "homeschooling," so the virus would have plenty of opportunity to spread anyway. Policing ultimately is dependent on compliance; there are not enough police officers to force the whole population to stop doing this kind of stuff.

@Hellodollydaydream
You are wrong.
@RYANCONWAY602 I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I absolutely understand your frustration with the covid minimizers and deniers, though.

I was so smug for having avoided it in '20 and most of '21.... by masking and having a good group of people around me who also masked when we got together for even a walk or chat outdoors.

Catching it outdoors twice this year has shaken me. I think health authorities/gov'ts are minimizing too much. It is highly contagious. It is also unpredictable in how it will present.

FYI jyst read an article noting a study published in the Lancet in June in which the use if the drug metformin may reduce chances of long covid. Lots if caveats, though. ie must acess meds w/i 4 days of onset of symptoms. 🤦‍♀️

I tried to get paxlovid for my dmum in last bout if c

We were also buying takeaway cider from pubs in milk bottles last time and sitting in fields or on the commons. I know a gym that stayed open throughout.

Tried to get paxlovid or similar for my mum who qualifies but couldn't get a call-back from a participating clinic/doctor or appt in time as the window is 5 days from onset of symptoms. I was very ill, baby was very ill, mum was very ill and info was I'd still have to get her to a clinic within the time frame to get assessed and get an rx. Ridiculous.

Tartantotty · 29/08/2023 19:22

The new strain is, apparently, just like a cold. No panic.

COVID-19 was actually the first time anyone tried a lockdown for any pandemic! Arguably, before the internet, it wouldn't even have been possible.

Well not really.

Quarantines, Cordon sanitairres, Curfew restrictions have occurred since the middle ages to deal with diseases like Bubonic Plague and the Black Death.

exaltedwombat · 29/08/2023 19:31

I really don’t think this is a matter where the opinion, validation and support of the Sisterhood has much relevance.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/08/2023 19:32

@RYANCONWAY602 you have my sympathies. Sounds like you were hit very hard by it. Same here, each time. FFS.😔

@Tartantotty you can't tell people not to worry because it's "just a cold." For a LOT of people it isn't. Covid is an unpredictable virus that can wreak havoc anywhere in your body and having had even a mild/asymptomatic case can leave you with inexplicable long-term symptoms ("long Covid") and an increased risk of death and complications to pre-existing health conditions.

The best defence is to not get it.

NorseHorse123 · 29/08/2023 19:32

Yes, another pandemic is more than likely inevitable within the next 100y! Don’t pay attention to conspiracy theory people - most are attention seeking lunatics. The more you click on their posts, the more of that type of stuff you’ll see on your feed or recommended to you thus further feeding your anxiety.

Sorrynotsorry22 · 29/08/2023 19:34

There will definitely be another pandemic at some time in the future.
Just maybe not in your or my life time 😔

Which governments are you talking about?

Not Chinese obviously .

I would say I think it is 100% likely to happen in our lifetime but I doubt it'll ever get to full lockdown as no one would adhere to it because so many think it was an overreaction. And then it will end up way worse than COVID

I agree. After not seeing my beloved mother in law when she was dying, and then at her funeral being told not to touch the coffin after I kissed my hand to pass it to her. I know I would never adhere to another lockdown.

My dad was vaccinated, he died from COVID in the early hours of Sunday morning.

I’m very sorry your dad has passed away. And of Covid. It’s just awful.

My condolences to you and yours.

Yep after losing time with my mum who died after COVID and as as a result of lockdowns that I obeyed I didn't get the same time spent with her, any future lockdowns that take me away from my lovely can go to hell.

Quarantines, Cordon sanitairres, Curfew restrictions have occurred since the middle ages to deal with diseases like Bubonic Plague and the Black Death.

Bubonic plague (which is what the Black Death was) has an IFR of 60% if untreated, which is rather different to covid!

Againstmachine · 29/08/2023 19:45

RYANCONWAY602 · 29/08/2023 18:01

I had covid. Because i was so weak and didn't take the test ( i had 2 posted )....not even my family believed me. I was in my bed for 5 months, and genuinly thought i was going to die every single second. if it happens again, it's the lack of responsibility of others who didn not have it. I'm a single man who knows what it's like.

Well you were in your bed for 5 months with COVID, I think more is in play here.

And your family not believing you or making you crawl to shops there is more to this story.

Thankfully treated very easily these days.

I wasn't saying it was. I was responding to the comment that it was the first time anyone had tried a lockdown.

CM1897 · 29/08/2023 19:47

Covid hasn’t gone away, many people are still getting it. It’s unlikely there will be another lockdown though

Gnomegnomegnome · 29/08/2023 19:48

@Lookingforwardtoautumnnow block them. Sounds like you will much happier and healthier without them in your life.

Wsmi · 29/08/2023 19:48

No, the corrupt in power will find another way to rinse the public. To print and borrow billions in your name and then tax your to death. But at least you saved the NHS in the last pandemic. Pay yourselves on the back. Or better still bang some pots and pans.

Cariadm · 29/08/2023 19:49

User2346 · 29/08/2023 19:12

What about the economy, mental health, impact on other health services? How would we pay for all of this?

More questions, albeit rhetorical, but still no alternative suggestions to 'lockdown'? I don't know how this would be paid for, I just know that lives are more important than anything else and what use is the point of anything if potentially half the population is dead...melodramatic you mutter, but again, what are the alternatives? 😥😱

Danielle9891 · 29/08/2023 19:55

I had COVID last week. It's my 3rd time and they have all been completely different. This time I never got a sore chest or cough. Just a really weird numb feeling in my throat and I was really tired. I think this was a new strain. The 1st time I had a really bad fever and was ill for a week then the 2nd time I had a bad chest, worst than any chest infections I've had which lasted a month.

I can't see there being another lockdown as no one tests anymore as you've got to pay for them, then wait for them to come. I only tested as I found an old test still in the box.

Also how do the government know how many has it? Are we ment to register our results again? Then theres the financial part of it. We can't afford another lockdown and even if the government tried to implement one, no one will listen. They've had enough.
