So is formula milk UPF?

It is, right? I mean, the ingredients list certainly is. And it’s listed on the BBC website as an UPF.

Going to be interested to see if this influences the BF/FF debate now that it looks like awareness of UPF is about to skyrocket. Does it even matter when they’re only on it for about a year? Does that fact that it’s an UPF actually add any info to the pre-existing evidence on BF/FF?

So it's ok to sit on a toilet shitting while feeding a baby green breast milk? I have no words, well not polite ones.

Good for you. I was on my own at the time and I wasn't going to leave my son to cry when he was hungry.

MansfieldLark · 31/08/2023 07:56

Its magical stuff. My prem baby needed formula and a special build up formula as he was failing to thrive. I honestly didn't give a shiney shit if it was processed or not. The formula fed my child as I physically could not (and didnt want to anyway). No guilt from me at all.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/08/2023 08:04

I'll be telling that part of me to shut up

Would that more of us did this more of the time!

And in this context ... formula being a 'UFP' is simply not relevant information to the pros and cons, for the reasons explored on this thread. Tbh if someone mentioned the term in this context id be inclined to be more sceptical about the reliability of their information.

Not at the point you first caught it, which is presumably when your baby avoided it. Anyway, not going to waste anymore time arguing with someone who thinks kissing a baby leads to antibody production

And I'm not going to waste my time on people who have no clue. I don't need to justify myself to anyone.

I know my body helped in him not catching it. And I'm v proud of that. Aholes on the Internet are not going to tell me otherwise.

Have a nice day 😊

To add balance my EBF 5 month old currently has a stinking cold (as do I). My milk is staying stubbornly white, perhaps that’s why.

How on Earth did you manage to wipe/flush/wash hands before touching him? I wouldn’t handle a baby while wiping my bum during a bout of noro.

You're just being purposefully obtuse now aren't you, and for what benefit?

It depends on the antibodies, 'regular colour' breastmilk can still contain them, some people do get different colouration though when poorly- during covid there were quite a few reports of it.

Why? Handling a baby while having explosive contagious diarrhoea isn’t a good idea. PP was very keen to share this experience so I was wondering how on Earth she did it.

I had a brief search online and there is zero indication that antibodies turn breastmilk green. It can however turn green due to foods you consume.

Fact check: Experts debunk claim that COVID-19 antibodies turn breast milk green

Breast milk can turn green – but not due to COVID-19 antibodies, experts told USA TODAY.

This is the type of ignorant nonsense that scares breastfeeding mums who aren’t able to do their own research. The scientific fact is that breastfed babies are least likely to have any kind of allergies and pediatricians advise families with a history severe allergies (like mine) to breastfeed - DS is the first person in my family to be breastfed and the first one who doesn’t have an anaphalactic allergy.

Evidence is mixed but some studies show breastfeeding increases the risk of food allergy. Which I am inclined to believe given my own experiences

ItstimeToMoveagain · 31/08/2023 13:58

Well I can't say I've ever experienced green breast milk but then I've never felt proud of myself when my kids don't catch my illnesses either . All seems a bit odd to me. Will you be devastated if they do catch something from you at some point

Actually they do. I didn't eat anything green that day or previous.

It doesn’t need to be green. Iron and certain flavourings/colourings can turn breast milk green.

As someone who positively chose to use formula from day one, I knew formula is a highly processed product. Would information about upf have influenced my decision - not at all.

Same.

Not everyone who formula feeds from birth is uneducated. I weighed up the pros and cons and decided that the pros more than outweigh any of the cons.

It was absolutely an informed choice.
