People chucking piss at gigs

Yajebbend · 27/08/2023 02:03

Just came back from a gig at a local park. I’ve not been to a gig for ages and was really looking forward to it but the amount of people wasted and the amount of plastic cups of piss flying around really spoiled it. We were nowhere near the front so had quite a lot of space around us but still pissed people knocked in to us like a good few times.

I went and had two drinks, it was £10 a drink each and a no food or drink could be brought in with bag searches so people must have spent a fortune.

Am I just old and miserable or aibu to never go a gig ever again.

Can’t stand this - so disgusting. I also cannot get my head round people throwing phones/objects at the performers. Presumably people have paid for a ticket so why the need to abuse the performer?! Harry Styles got something chucked at him - near impossible to get a ticket but someone with a ticket does that! Something seriously wrong with people.

No one should throw anything heavy, or at his head, but tbf he picks stuff up and wears it/waves the flags etc, so everyone wants him to wear their stuff.
I know the girl whose yellow boa he wore in Edinburgh, she's still ecstatic.

FuckingHellAdele · 27/08/2023 11:06

I was at Johnny Marr and the Charlatans last night, and happily, no piss throwing to report.

I did get drenched in beer but sadly that was just down to my own attempt to carry four pints and a bottle of wine from the bar.

OccupantofInterplanetaryCraft · 27/08/2023 11:23

Remember when the Stone Roses did their comeback? First night was a small venue in Manchester, second night Dublin?

I really wanted to see them, desperate to, but the Dublin gig had a lot of negative press beforehand. Turns out 7 people were stabbed at it.

I think these big open air gigs are an opportunity for some dodgy characters to play out their local feuds amongst a crowd where they can’t be seen. Think there was a big gardai presence there too.

Leonard Cohen in the park was full of the greatest idiots talking throughout because as someone up thread people work in companies with corporate tickets and turn up not knowing the music whereas real fans pay a fortune to hear their idols.

Tom Waits in Dublin tickets didn’t even go on public release. I sat in the park outside the tent listening ( with lots of others in all fairness).

@5128gap proving my point entirely, thank you

No trait is confined to either sex. But there are some behaviours where the perpetrators are overwhelming of one sex. This is one of them.
If you're a woman, why is that so uncomfortable for you to acknowledge? The acknowledgement that the people doing this are almost exclusively men, doesn't mean people are maligning all men and are going to suspect your Nigel of throwing his urine around. My DSs label this as male behaviour, but as they dont do it, don't see this as offensive to them.
(Not to mention, that If you're on a mission to defend men from sexism, the particularly disgusting sub set in this thread seems a less than deserving place to start.)

I am a woman which is why what actually makes me uncomfortable is some peoples determination to deify women rather than accepting that they’re also just human with all the same flaws. Who knows, maybe the fact women are less prone to the same behaviours (and I do agree with that statement) is down to misogynistic socialisation and without that there would be the thinnest line between behaviours more generally.

I’m not on a mission to defend men, I’m not on any mission at all. That includes ignoring reality to make a point.

Hufflemuff · 27/08/2023 11:58

I'd actually cry if I got that sprinkled on me.

Nanny0gg · 27/08/2023 12:21

I don't want to go to gigs anymore because a) I want to actually see the artist in person, not on a screen b) I want to hear them not the crowd, performing c) I want to have a seat and d) I want to be indoors.

Thank god I used to go when the biggest venue was the RAH or smaller stadiums, but mostly concert halls, no-one threw anything at anyone and you didn't need to take out a loan to buy the tickets

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 27/08/2023 12:44

Show at the RAH last year cost me £45, I thought that was pretty cheap.

Indeed. However I’m talking about throwing phones and coins etc which seems increasingly common.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 27/08/2023 12:51

Oh of course, I considered throwing my aubergine head, but didn't in the end!

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 27/08/2023 12:59

I’ve had this a few times at indoor events too. It’s vile.

ItsMyGoldenHour · 27/08/2023 13:03

Yajebbend · 27/08/2023 03:45

That’s interesting as it Noel Gallagher we went see. Must be same bloody people 27 years older

I was going to say the only time I’ve experienced this is at an Oasis concert in early 2000’s. Absolutely vile.

Giggorata · 27/08/2023 13:04

I don't remember seeing piss being thrown about at 70s festivals.
But the loos were always inadequate and abominable, so people did pee and poo outside.
I can't remember which festival had the well known “Shit Hill”, possibly Windsor.

But what I am reading now… yuck. People have turned feral.
Correction, Brits have turned feral, because it doesn't seem to happen elsewhere.

But women are not inherently more civilised than men just because of their sex.

Er, yes they are. Have you read any crime statistics?

Have you seen the atrocities that women did in Nazi Germany? I've heard it said that women can be much more cruel and sadistic than men.
They don't do it as often as men, but boy when they do it, it is horrible. The poor men in the camps said they were more scared of the women SS than the men.

Soot, not the point of the thread but I just thought of it now.

Maybe it is bevause geberally speaking men have higher level of aggression, but then that one women thats high in aggression is just mental.

Ugh still shiver when I think of the stories

Ooh I actually think you're right
I also reckon were about the same, both genders are human. And that it is leanrnt behaviour that make females do less of this stuff, because she's less attractive/dateable the.n.
Like its more acceptable for men

IDriveMySupernova · 27/08/2023 13:24

I wanted to see Weyes Blood who was headlining at the De La Warr outdoor festival recently, but I didn’t book tickets in the end as I’ve never had a good outdoor festival experience. My friend who lives locally had a wander down and filmed some. I’m glad I didn’t go because lots of drunken people were talking through it and not paying any attention to the music.

I much prefer the acoustics of indoor concerts, however I haven’t been to one for a long time because the last few times were spoiled by people singing along.

My friend said to me, “But singing along is the best bit”. No, it really isn’t. I didn’t pay to hear your shit singing in my ear. Sadly I think many people view it as a typical night out with mates, with the music serving as a backdrop for their normal drink and drug-fuelled activities.

I’m going to start going to classical concerts as at least there’s no risk of people singing along with them, and I’d be very surprised if piss flew to suite bergamasque. Although never say never Confused

Startyabastard · 27/08/2023 13:50

Do you think when men do it, which is most of the time, it's territorial?

SnowWhiteAndTheTwoKids · 27/08/2023 13:52

Crapsummer2023 · 27/08/2023 05:09

I’m sorry I just don’t believe you. It would take a lot more effort for a women to piss into a cup, and no women would stand patiently waiting for their bloke to piss into a cup at a gig so the can handle it (yuk) and throw it. Absolute bollocks unless you mean it’s a man identifying as a woman who still has a penis.

I've seen this happen in a busy nightclub when the queues are too long for the ladies loo. Girls use a plastic pint glass and stick it between their legs, pulling their kickers to the side. They then pop the used glass next to all the others on the bar. It's grim but it happens.

I’ve gone into women’s toilets and found an entire shit on the floor of the cubicle. I’ve seen tampons left on the seat, shitty loo paper shoved into keyholes and all over the floor. Not to mention the amount of women who don’t bother to wash their hands. Women are quite capable of doing disgusting things in public places, it’s daft to suggest it’s only men.

Sorry to continue your digression but your post made me think of atrocities primarily committed by women including nuns. We can segue into the conversation about the Catholic Church and the inherent misogyny in their structure/doctrine but nuns for the large part are female communities left largely to their own devices. Their documented cruelty to other women and children is enough to show me that women are as culpable and capable as men of pretty much anything. There is no female utopia and it’s disingenuous to push that narrative.

No, I think it’s a really base form of an anarchism.

AmazingSnakeHead · 27/08/2023 17:32

I'm still feeling confused and naive by this. I understand that they don't want to lose their place and so piss in a cup. Fine. But why don't why then throw it at people? It just surely be simply to be a thug and ruin people's nights.

I'm not attempting to deify women. I'm not saying women don't do things that are anti social and disgusting. My comments were in relation to this disgusting thing we are talking about on this thread.
This behaviour originated with men and is almost exclusively carried out by men. Yet as soon as this is expressed, people start piping up to tell us all about the disgusting things they claim to have seen women do. Why? It's entirely pointless.
Women who's experience has taught them that men are much more likely to engage in anti social and aggressive acts of this nature are not suddenly going to think, Oh, my eyes have deceived me all this years! The reports in the press and the anecdotes of my friends are lies! I'll go and stand near that lairy bunch of blokes over there, as that group of women are just as likely to offend, disgust, harass or assault me.
You might not be motivated by defending male bad behaviour, but most of the whataboutary generally is, because when the behaviour is indefensible all they're left with is to attack.

Because their idea of fun is being a thug and ruining people's nights.
