People chucking piss at gigs

Just came back from a gig at a local park. I’ve not been to a gig for ages and was really looking forward to it but the amount of people wasted and the amount of plastic cups of piss flying around really spoiled it. We were nowhere near the front so had quite a lot of space around us but still pissed people knocked in to us like a good few times.

I went and had two drinks, it was £10 a drink each and a no food or drink could be brought in with bag searches so people must have spent a fortune.

Am I just old and miserable or aibu to never go a gig ever again.

Drunk/drugged up people behave like fucking animals at gigs. I’ve been to a fair few in my younger years; I’ve seen a lot. I don’t go anymore, but nothing shocks me really - some people are horrid

YeOldeBuxomWench · 28/08/2023 19:48

I've only seen this at Reading festival years ago, but haven't been to big gigs in ages. Reading festival is like landing into an apocalyse that happened two weeks ago.

Glad I'm too old for this now.

@Cornettoninja I am quite willing to accept there are women as you describe. I have also met them. However, this does not detract from the fact that the behaviour in question is predominantly a male issue, and the people carrying it out are overwhelmingly male.
Every time bad behaviour that is largely the preserve of men is discussed, you can bet your house that someone will pipe up to tell us that 'it's not just men'.
You call me lazy for attributing this to a desire to defend men by attacking women. So if I've incorrectly interpreted the motivation for this, then correct me. Why do you do it? Why the need to try to convince people 'women are as bad as men'?

bakebeans · 28/08/2023 21:49

Yes been there. Went to one 15 yes ago and they were chucking piss in paper cups. Dirty fuckers! 🤬

ShowOfHands · 28/08/2023 22:02

I saw two women do it. Year 2000, Daphne and Celeste at Reading festival. Saw hundreds of men as well of course. It was diabolical. Lots of bottles thrown. Never been back to Reading and prefer niche folk festivals nowadays.

Vetoncall · 28/08/2023 22:19

I've seen this happen at a few gigs and at T in the Park, Reading and V Festivals years ago. Only ever seen men doing it, I saw fights break out over it at T and saw one group get caught and manhandled away by security during a Killers set at V. I luckily have never been hit by any of it but I've seen it hit people and felt so sorry for them, it's absolutely revolting. It has made me a lot more choosy about which gigs I'll go to, and definitely very careful about where I stand/sit. I'd absolutely never go to the likes of Reading or V again.

NannaKaren · 28/08/2023 22:41

its disgusting. End of.
reminds me when pre Covid DP and I went to watch a Rock concert at the Olympic stadium and everyone was over 50! Still throwing piss about which I thought and said was disgusting and DP seemed to think was funny and acceptable (twat)…

I’m sorry I just don’t believe you. It would take a lot more effort for a women to piss into a cup, and no women would stand patiently waiting for their bloke to piss into a cup at a gig so the can handle it (yuk) and throw it. Absolute bollocks unless you mean it’s a man identifying as a woman who still has a penis.

I am inclined to agree. The logistics of peeing into a plastic cup or even a pint glass is virtually impossible for a woman either standing up or squatting down.

Juced · 29/08/2023 07:48

Both!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 29/08/2023 08:19

I'm seeing The Killers tonight so hopefully it will be piss free!

This is why people are talking about women's behaviour- because they are being called liars, not because they're NAMALT. 🙄

I've never been to this sort of gig but I was once told by a woman that if you go to a festival you should wear a skirt so you can piss in empty pint glasses and drop them on the floor.

Wtf? Gigs aren't that long. I always need a wee, but even I can last that long.

Also, most gigs are expensive to go to. Bit of a waste of money if you're so pissed you can't remember it after.

Ofcourseshecan · 29/08/2023 09:12

oakleaffy · 27/08/2023 07:16

Oh yes -I know the protest you mean with men hurling piss.
They called themselves ''Pissed off **''

Really revolting. Like a sort of ''Golden showers'' fetish.

Women surely don't enjoy covering themselves in piss.

I remember that. It was transwomen — male people saying they were women. But doing something you can’t imagine a woman doing! One of them poured it over himself. It was a protest about something.

Onebabygirl · 29/08/2023 10:03

I was at a V Festival years ago with my brother and asked him why people were throwing around their pints of beer …. he replied, that’s not beer …… 🤢. Hadn’t occurred to me until then that it was wee. Absolutely foul behaviour.

Fightyouforthatpie · 29/08/2023 10:07

I assume they loaded up first by drinking loads of cheap booze and probably dropping some drugs for good measure. I am constantly astounded by the amount of wasted people at gigs.

Thisgroupneverceasestoamazeme · 29/08/2023 10:57

@Harls1969 I have the bladder of a gnat! I usually need a wee before, during and after a gig! Even more if I want to see the support act.

The gig itself might not last long but if you’ve got a good spot/don’t want to risk losing your friends in a huge crowd and/or don’t want to queue for the loo it makes sense to go in situ. Not something I do but I understand why people would!

Also, seen a lot of mention of people weeing in bottles and putting lids on…dunno what gigs you’re going to (maybe more civilised that ones I do!) but usually caps are removed from bottles to stop you filling and throwing them on stage

Cornettoninja · 29/08/2023 14:02

Why do you do it? Why the need to try to convince people 'women are as bad as men'?

I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything I’m just acknowledging reality. What’s driving people on this thread to be so insistent that women couldn’t possibly take part in such a thing (or have fetish’s apparently Hmm)?

I’m not a fan of stereotyping in any way particularly and narratives that insist ‘men’ rather than ‘some men’ or even ‘majority of men’ are just as damaging as any other stereotype that seeks to other and draw battle lines, particularly when they rely on ignoring realties. I don’t think it’s healthy or helpful to ignore women’s behaviour because it’s a behaviour that’s not palatable.

aside from that I just find behaviours interesting 🤷‍♀️

5128gap · 29/08/2023 14:39

There's a difference between naming a behaviour as an almost exclusively male behaviour and claiming that all men indulge in it.
A good example would be street harassment. The 'people' who lean out of car windows and shout lewd comments to people of the opposite sex on the street, (often including young 'people' in school uniform) are almost exclusively men, and the recipients of the harassment women and girls. This isn't remotely the same thing as saying all men harass women and girls in the street.
I'm also fairly certain there's someone who can dredge up some story of their next door neighbour's cousin's son being sexually propositioned by a gang of women in a white van, but that doesn't prevent street harassment being a male problem behaviour. The behaviour on this thread falls into the same category.
I don't see it as drawing battle lines between women and men. I've actually spoken about this thread with my adult Ds's, my partner and a male colleague who all agree it's a 'man thing'. They're not offended or 'othered' by that. They know what men can be like. I find that the good men do get it. They don't expect women in their corner breaking down stereotypes for them, because they know where they've come from and they understand.

Cornettoninja · 29/08/2023 15:11

Thats what I’m saying. There are, however, very black and white statements on this thread that do exactly that. Paraphrasing but it was quoted again a few posts ago ‘I simply don’t believe you’.

They don't expect women in their corner breaking down stereotypes for them, because they know where they've come from and they understand.

I’m not fighting anyone’s corner? ….well apart from my own.

I’m afraid I don’t attach much credence in a member of a stereotyped group also subscribing to the same stereotype. I won’t derail the thread further but I’m sure there are many examples of ‘even my xxx mate says all xxx are such and such’.

I just don’t see the value of being comfortable with inaccuracies that create their own stereotype that seek to exalte. Inevitably they create distrust and loss of credibility when peoples real life experience makes them think ‘hang on, that’s not right’. Pouncing on any perceived criticism is then just bullying. I’m not going to be bullied out of an opinion that I know to be based on truth because someone else can’t contemplate it.

(not accusing you of bullying btw!)

There's no way I'd be able to wee in anything with any dignity or without weeing down my leg! I've often thought about getting a she wee, but I can imagine me getting in a mess with that 🤣

Thisgroupneverceasestoamazeme · 29/08/2023 16:17

@Harls1969 this has unlocked a core me memory! one year they trialled handing out cardboard sheewees at reading and providing female urinals that you kind of squatted over…before a couple of drinks I was fine. On about my third attempt I peed down my leg and trousers. I shock I moved back and felt my bare bum dunk into the blocked trough/urinal full of wee 🤢

Harls1969 · 29/08/2023 19:31

Oh I'm sorry but that made me laugh! It also reminded me of the time, many years ago when I was in my late teens. I'd had quite a few lagers on a night out and was desperate for a wee. I found a quiet alley and got on with it. As I pulled my pants and jeans up, I turned round to see a couple walking their dog who would have had full view of me 🙈

I’m clearly going to the wrong (or I guess the right) concerts. I have never even heard of this behavior.

same 🤷‍♀️
