People chucking piss at gigs

Yajebbend · 27/08/2023 02:03

Just came back from a gig at a local park. I’ve not been to a gig for ages and was really looking forward to it but the amount of people wasted and the amount of plastic cups of piss flying around really spoiled it. We were nowhere near the front so had quite a lot of space around us but still pissed people knocked in to us like a good few times.

I went and had two drinks, it was £10 a drink each and a no food or drink could be brought in with bag searches so people must have spent a fortune.

Am I just old and miserable or aibu to never go a gig ever again.

I've never been to this sort of gig but I was once told by a woman that if you go to a festival you should wear a skirt so you can piss in empty pint glasses and drop them on the floor.

And it doesn't take a wild imagination to realise that SOME women might then feel inclined to chuck it.
It is utterly disgusting, no question about it, but I do sometimes find the whole it's-ONLY-men-who-do-gross-and-disgusting-things tedious, untrue and unwarranted.
And no, I'm not a man.

agapanthus1979 · 27/08/2023 05:02

@littleripper yes, I have seen women do it. Perhaps they chuck the piss their male companions have produced, or perhaps they piss in a cup out of sight in order to throw. I'm not an expert on the ins and outs of piss throwing, but I have seen women do it. Sorry if that wrecks your narrative.

Which concert did you see this happen?

I've seen men do this at a Stone Roses concert a few years ago and repeatedly at Leeds Festival. Never, ever seen a woman do it. Not sure I believe you tbh.

agapanthus1979 · 27/08/2023 05:13

@Fallenangelofthenorth it really doesn't matter whether or not you believe me.

Randommother · 27/08/2023 05:14

I’ve pissed in a cup at a festival, and I’m a woman. However I’m not a yob, so I poured it into an empty bottle and binned it. Women can piss in cups, and some women will throw it.

Crapsummer2023 · 27/08/2023 02:39

I remember some guys from work who went to an Oasis gig back in the day saying it had been ruined because of this. Fucking disgusting yobs. To think there are women out there who sleep with men like this.

If it was Manchester I was there with teens it was disgusting.

Missingmyusername · 27/08/2023 05:45

Women can use a shewee, there’s no need to squat over anything. It’s disgusting, it doesn’t matter who does it.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/08/2023 05:57

Am I the only one who is shocked that people do this. Just why?!

AceofPentacles · 27/08/2023 06:04

I experienced this at an Oasis gig it was vile

Totalwasteofpaper · 27/08/2023 06:05

Yajebbend · 27/08/2023 03:45

That’s interesting as it Noel Gallagher we went see. Must be same bloody people 27 years older

We went to see liam and got covered in it.

Its not peoples piss. Its mens piss.

Its fucking disgusting and i lost my mind at my DH because he refused to move and i ended up with warm piss all down my back. He then had the audacity to complain some splashed on him. theonly reason i didn't dump him that night is when he got a load of it down once side an hour later he apologised profusely as he now understood my trauma.

Try and block it from your mind and move on with your life. Thats what i did as well as refusing to see anymore dickhead musicians with my husband

Tara24 · 27/08/2023 06:05

I didn't know this was a thing!

landbeforegrime · 27/08/2023 06:08

I also experienced this at an Oasis gig c25 years ago. Don't remember it happening at many others but do remember being hit by an empty glass bottle being thrown at the train station on the way to the Love Parade in Leeds (and seeing a woman pull down her pants and take a poo on the middle of the platform in front of a full train). I was badly hurt by the bottle and lucky it didn't hit me on the head. I was probably about 16 so it didn't put me off going to gigs again but it probably should have. Now there's no way I'd bother with any apart from family festivals and Galsto (although it's been a long time since I was there and now that's probably awful as well)?

Lizzy1980 · 27/08/2023 06:11

I’m a big live music fan and have been regularly going to gigs since I was about 13. I’ve only been to a handful of outdoor festivals but unfortunately I’ve witnessed urine (amongst other things) being thrown around at most of them. I’ve got pretty varied taste in music and I’m showing my age now but a lot of the Indie & Britpop bands I went to see when I was young I’ve seen second time around more recently. The crowd has seemed to be around my age so I assume they were fans at the same time as me back in 90’s/00’s. You’d be surprised at how many men still have Liam Gallagher haircuts and wear parkas 🤣 I don’t really remember stuff being thrown around as much then though. It happened but not at every gig and certainly not like nowadays. The point I’m making is that instead of growing out of that kind of behaviour these middle aged people seem to be more badly behaved. The majority of the gigs I’ve been to have been rock and I haven’t seen anywhere near as much stuff being thrown around even back then, and to be honest it’s always been more beer than wee. Still unpleasant but I know which I’d rather have thrown on me!

RocketIceLollie · 27/08/2023 06:13

A lot of dickheads around these days. I don't find big festivals and outdoor music gigs appealing at all. The piss throwing thing, drunk people singing over the singer, etc. No thanks.

GrammarTeacher · 27/08/2023 06:16

People who think this didn't happen previously clearly didn't see Mel C at V in the 90s. It was awful. When Beck came out he called it out. It is mostly, but not only, men. Some people are just nasty. I hate how drunk people get at a lot of gigs/festivals. Idiotic drunks at a Manics gig at Brixton about 10 years ago is when I stopped being prepared to pay to go up to London for gigs. There were always idiots, I just didn't realise when I was young and pushed my way to the front.

Muu · 27/08/2023 06:23

WTF is wrong with people? 😣

I wonder if the poor sod who emptied the bin would agree that you're not a yob. Who puts piss in a bin?

TiramisuTastesDreamy · 27/08/2023 06:32

I’ve been to plenty of Oasis gigs and never been covered in piss…..must have been lucky🤣have been to see both Liam and Noel since and although it was pissing down with rain when I last saw NG 3 weeks ago…..agree with OP re cost - it was the price of the drinks that angered me 😂

If it was in a lidded bottle, what difference does it make?

I imagine people with a cleaning job will have dealt with worse than a (presumably) closed bottle of wee.

OMG that is awful! You poor thing.
Grim beyond words.
My dh would hit the roof if I was covered in a man’s warm urine!

Janefx40 · 27/08/2023 06:45

A cup of piss landed on my head once at Leeds festival. I was basically covered in piss. It was gross. I was in the crowd at the time but there working so was able to go back to our staff camp site and have a shower and wash my hair. It was gross but my hair has never been so soft...piss that is made up of beer turned out to be the best conditioner I have ever known 😂😬

anonymousamy · 27/08/2023 06:50

I just don’t understand why people do this. Would they care if someone else’s pee landed on them? Disgusting.

Bagpuss2022 · 27/08/2023 06:53

Disgusting haven’t seen it personally as don’t really do outdoor gigs ii go to seated stadium/arena . However it has happened to
DH and his best mate a few years ago they left .
some people are just vile
especially when they have consumed alcohol

Sallyh87 · 27/08/2023 06:56

What am I reading here?! People are throwing piss at each other?! Why?

So someone thinks it’s a good idea and presumably all their friends must do too as I doubt they are finding a quiet corner to do it in.

I think I’m going to stop leaving the house.

BlueMoe · 27/08/2023 06:59

littleripper · 27/08/2023 03:46

Men, men do this. No women do. It happened to me at a primal scream concert 20 years ago and dh actually saw who did it and got hold of them. Security intervened but when we said what he'd done they aggressively manhandled him out and praised DH. It's a serious assault - like spitting is. Security could watch the crowd and punish these men but chose not too.

I also think it should be treated as a really serious criminal offense.
