People chucking piss at gigs

Just came back from a gig at a local park. I’ve not been to a gig for ages and was really looking forward to it but the amount of people wasted and the amount of plastic cups of piss flying around really spoiled it. We were nowhere near the front so had quite a lot of space around us but still pissed people knocked in to us like a good few times.

I went and had two drinks, it was £10 a drink each and a no food or drink could be brought in with bag searches so people must have spent a fortune.

Am I just old and miserable or aibu to never go a gig ever again.

Same happened about 20 yrs ago when I saw Oasis- it’s still happening? What is wrong with these men???

79andnotout · 27/08/2023 08:37

You can usually predict the piss throwing gigs and festivals. I live in Manchester and would avoid like the plague anything that attracts the oasis/stone roses crowd. Fortunately that leaves a lot of good gigs and festivals to go to with a lovely crowd! I haven't had piss thrown on me since the reading and leeds days of the 90s.

I have pissed in a cup many a time in my younger days to avoid spending whole festivals in toilet queues, and taken it home in a bottle in my car or disposed of it accordingly. I've upgraded these days to a shee pee and I also don't drink anymore which helps massively! I have absolutely never thrown any.

BarrelOfOtters · 27/08/2023 08:42

I love gigs and sometimes dislike audiences…and weigh up whether to stay or not…

twats in hats at one recently, nearly started a thread on it. Big tribute hats to Stevie Nicks, but no fuckers could see who were behind them…

and the people who talk through the quiet songs

and, yes, piss thrown at indoor concerts too.

and the guy who dropped a full pint of beer and just looked at ir forlornly rather than apologising to everyone he’d covered in, luckily, beer not piss.

its not just age I’ve always been ambivalent about drunk/high audiences.

Idiots who throw beer around are annoying enough.

They’re the people we’re talking about - it isn’t beer.

We saw this recently at the Arctic Monkeys at Old Trafford, having seen lots of it at V Festival in the early 2000s.

The idea that women are also doing this when even a cursory think about the logistics tells you it would be a tricky manoeuvre in a crowd (even if we assume such women are both wearing a skirt and carrying a she-pee) is ridiculous.

Men wear both underpants and trousers that makes it incredibly easy to piss in a cup discretely in a large crowd. The fact that they then choose to throw it rather than bend down and pour it onto the grass is inexplicable.

Oblomov23 · 27/08/2023 08:43

Yuk. I wouldn't like this.

Sorry, can I just ask how on earth you manage to do that at a gig without people looking at you ? I don't understand? I really wouldn't feel comfortable putting a sheepee or cup under my skirt in front of the masses !!??

Idunno8 · 27/08/2023 08:44

Yeah this ruins concerts for me, I had to wear a huge rain mac at Bestival ten years ago and very glad I did, it was everywhere.

not going back to festivals or converts while this goes on.

I do understand why you would wee in a cup, my friend had to as once you move from your place in a huge crowd you will never find your way back, but pouring it onto the ground gently, is etiquette.

Mypuppywontsleep · 27/08/2023 08:45

This happened to me at V fest and Knebworth. Knebworth was cups of piss thrown into the crowd. Lucky it was raining so we all had rain coats on and they took the brunt of the piss

At V during NO music playing the guys behind us were just pissing on the black tarp floor covering and it was all running down into the crowd, being still the middle of the day time waiting for the music to start we were still kind of sitting on the ground with our stuff/jumpers/food with us and we got covered in it. There isn’t much shade at V if it’s hot but what shade there is, you can’t ever use it as men and women are pissing AND shitting in broad daylight under trees and by fences. I walked back to my car afterwards on the Monday and not one single portaloo was in a usable state just had piss and shit all over the floors by then. People also just piss up the tents on purpose too

Dilemmaema · 27/08/2023 08:45

I remember plastic bottles of piss been thrown in the 1990s at a festival. While I didn’t get piss on me I got one to the face. They threw them incredibly high and it was terrifying having them rain down on you. My boyfriend was shielding me but just as I looked up to say something I was hit in the face.

EvilElsa · 27/08/2023 08:46

Crapsummer2023 · 27/08/2023 02:39

I remember some guys from work who went to an Oasis gig back in the day saying it had been ruined because of this. Fucking disgusting yobs. To think there are women out there who sleep with men like this.

Came on to say this was going on in the 90s....I remember watching Oasis at Knebworth and there were plastic cups of piss flying around. Luckily never got hit or splashed but must have really ruined someone's experience stinking of wee all day/evening.

TheSilentSister · 27/08/2023 08:49

I saw it happening at an Oasis concert many years ago. I was right at the back, near the yobs who were doing it (although they weren't the only ones). Later we caught a bus back to our hotel and bumped into some people who'd been at the concert and got covered in it. It totally ruined their night out and they'd left the concert early.

LibbyDo · 27/08/2023 08:51

Oh ffs, of course it’s mainly men.

ShakespearesSisters · 27/08/2023 08:51

My one and only Oasis gig. Man City stadium, 2005 as layla had just come out. After being offered a snort off the back of someone's hand I was hit by a cup of what I assumed was warm beer until I was enlightened by my friend. We retreated to the stands rather than staying on the pitch. From my new vantage I could not believe how many flying cups I could see.

79andnotout · 27/08/2023 08:51

@Trickofthetrade yeah I wouldn't do it at a gig just a festival (although my housemate used to do it at the Music Box nightclub in manchester as the womens toilet queue was always about three hours long).

Long skirts, practice, and an understanding that you may get busted but not really care. Pick a quiet place. The shee pees I used in a tent or portaloo as since giving up drinking a few years ago the festival loo situation is much less stressful and I can time my queuing much better.

Tynesider007 · 27/08/2023 08:52

It is 99.999999% of the time men who do this.

By far the worst I have seen is Oasis outside gigs, so many aresholes not even interested in the music.

Impossible to bring alcohol in but they can't stop the cocaine.

I have seen Madness many times out doors, not saying it doesn't happen but I have never seen it there.

They're Oasis fans, that's what's wrong with them 🤭

DrivingCadillacsInOurDreams · 27/08/2023 08:58

Autieangel · 27/08/2023 07:27

Happened a lot when I was going to festivals in early 2000's

What's Noel like ? we are going soon!

Incredible, you'll love it!

DrivingCadillacsInOurDreams · 27/08/2023 09:00

@Mumof2teens79 exactly, same for us - we were at Wythenshaw and didn't see any of this

Megifer · 27/08/2023 09:00

Lolz how tedious to see the usual "women do it too".....when it's maybe 1 woman for every 2000 men that do it and you'd have to be thick not to see its an overwhelmingly male issue 🙄

I always imagine the sort of person who says this would go up to their neighbour when their house has burnt down to say they know how they feel because their house smells smokey - just a right bell end.

RedToothBrush · 27/08/2023 09:00

Yajebbend · 27/08/2023 03:45

That’s interesting as it Noel Gallagher we went see. Must be same bloody people 27 years older

I loved Oasis and went to see them more times than I care to mention. I've also seen many many bands over the years.

Oasis gigs certainly had a rough crowd. Pretty much the worst out of any gigs I went to. At the start they were friendly but they got progressively worse over the years. I always went down the front but always towards the side which was much better.

I rarely went to gigs with anyone else and it never bothered me but tbh the last few Oasis gigs I went to started to get really quite scary in terms of the crowds behaviour. Too many fights, near crushes and just nasty atmosphere.

In the end I made a decision to stop going shortly before they split up, because of the piss, how rough the crowds were and because Liam had fucked his voice.

It's the only band I ever did this for. It was the whole lads Manchester thing, and once Britpop popped and the cool kids stopped going, it was left with frankly the England Flag waving lager louts.

It's kinda sad, that it's still happening and that the more moderate older Noel is still attracting that crowd. But it doesn't surprise me. The Charlatans get the odd crowd like that but no where near as bad and I think it's a Stone Roses /Ian Brown thing too. But it's an Oasis led issue.

It's not a gig thing.

yoshiblue · 27/08/2023 09:01

I saw this and thought you must have been at Noel's gig. I went to the Oasis gig in Heaton Park just before my wedding and it was that rough I was praying I didn't get an accidental black eye! Wee in cups everywhere and quite a few fights in the crowd. It was chucking it down and they were confiscating umbrellas! Never again!

Yep. It's an Oasis thing. Their fans started it. I've only ever had this happen when I've been watching Oasis and I've been to thousands of gigs

Beetlebuggy · 27/08/2023 09:03

I went batshit at one my kids for going to a festival and doing the whole leaving the tent behind thing. But they said it was covered in piss, people were just walking between the tents throwing bottles of piss everywhere or men were just pissing on tents there and then. They've never been to another festival.

HotWaxToTheMax · 27/08/2023 09:05

As well as chucking pots of piss I witnessed a little scroat actually whip his weenie out and piss down the back of a ladies legs and into her shoes 🤢 just vile

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 27/08/2023 09:07

I sort of get the fly-pissing (but not throwing) at a festival with inadequate facilities where there are hour long queues to access a portaloo that was last capable of flushing 36hours ago. It's the people doing it at indoor gigs with plenty of loos that I can't fathom. H got struck with flying piss when we saw the Arctic Monkeys at the Manchester Arena. Most annoyingly he was supposed to be going straight to work a night shift afterwards, but had to come home to shower and change.
