People chucking piss at gigs

Yajebbend · 27/08/2023 02:03

Just came back from a gig at a local park. I’ve not been to a gig for ages and was really looking forward to it but the amount of people wasted and the amount of plastic cups of piss flying around really spoiled it. We were nowhere near the front so had quite a lot of space around us but still pissed people knocked in to us like a good few times.

I went and had two drinks, it was £10 a drink each and a no food or drink could be brought in with bag searches so people must have spent a fortune.

Am I just old and miserable or aibu to never go a gig ever again.

It may not be only men but I would suggest that at any given concert the percentage of those who do it will be over 99% male. It's silly to pretend otherwise.

Dentistlakes · 27/08/2023 07:02

Revolting behaviour. I’ve never seen it, but I have heard of it happening at festivals.

I agree. I don’t know any woman that would ever do this.
Similar thing with urine being used in protests a few months ago, disgusting.

treacledan71 · 27/08/2023 07:11

Was at a friends and her DD was watching holloyoaks. They were on about it in on there. . Never even thought people would do that sort of thing but obviously do especially after reading this. Yuk.

I didn't know this was a thing!

Me neither! I'm gobsmacked!

And it doesn't take a wild imagination to realise that SOME women might then feel inclined to chuck it.
It is utterly disgusting, no question about it, but I do sometimes find the whole it's-ONLY-men-who-do-gross-and-disgusting-things tedious, untrue and unwarranted.
And no, I'm not a man.

Not anywhere near as tedious as someone who may have seen or heard of the odd woman doing something that anybody who has any knowledge of the world knows is an overwhelmingly male act of poor behaviour, piping up to tell us that its not just men.
I'm sure that if we suspend our disbelief and search hard enough you can no doubt find a man who will tell you they got sexually harassed by a group of women in a white van. Doesn't mean this is a thing 'women do too'.

Oh yes -I know the protest you mean with men hurling piss.
They called themselves ''Pissed off **''

Really revolting. Like a sort of ''Golden showers'' fetish.

Women surely don't enjoy covering themselves in piss.

gogomoto · 27/08/2023 07:17

I've personally never seen this and we see live music most weeks. Usually indoors though, I dislike getting wet and my rather eclectic musical taste means I suspect the outside festivals I have attended in recent years are more sane (mostly folk, world music but also small local weekend festivals and biker events which get rowdy from alcohol but such gentlemenGrin

Don't remember it from the past and seen oasis etc

BlueSoul · 27/08/2023 07:19

This kind of thing put me off festivals and outdoor gigs a few years ago. Also men weeing on the sides of our tent. Just no need.

gogomoto · 27/08/2023 07:25

@BlueSoul

Ah never had someone weeing at our tent but people routinely wee on the grass outside their own at night, women too though some take shewees. Personally I hang on or traipse over to the nearest decent toilets, keeps my drinking in check when camping especially if it's raining

Lonicerax · 27/08/2023 07:26

Banning alcohol would help.
People are also chucking stuff at stage - dangerous for the performers.
A few ruining it for the rest.

Autieangel · 27/08/2023 07:27

Happened a lot when I was going to festivals in early 2000's

What's Noel like ? we are going soon!

Grimsknee · 27/08/2023 07:33

Jesus Christ. I've never heard of this, never seen it in Australia in 35 years of gigs, is it an English thing?
Rock & roll is truly dead when the audience behaves worse than Iggy Pop at his nadir.

I experienced this a good few years ago at an outdoor Paulo Nutini concert in Glasgow. What would have been a good concert was ruined by drunk people throwing pee, who were also looking for a fight. It was awful.

No, no, no!!!! I don't want to hear this as I'm seeing him in Edinburgh tomorrow.
Hopefully it'll be ok in the more civilised city.

I remember some guys from work who went to an Oasis gig back in the day saying it had been ruined because of this. Fucking disgusting yobs. To think there are women out there who sleep with men like this.

I really don’t understand your last sentence. What do you mean?

JMSA · 27/08/2023 07:40

@FrancescaContini

She means it's unbelievable that disgusting scum like this could ever get laid ... which of course is true!

NutellaEllaElla · 27/08/2023 07:44

I've not experienced this myself though I'm so naive, I'm not sure I'd realise if I had, I just would never have thought it would be urine, how vile!

However, it's funny people should be mentioning Oasis specifically. I've never felt more uncomfortable than at a Liam Gallagher gig. I've been in massive gathering of men before (eg
Sports matches) but this was a totally different vibe and they were chanting LIAM LIAM etc and I felt very glad I had DH with me.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/08/2023 07:44

This is "normal" at download/reading/Leeds festivals unfortunately.

I've seen a girl really hurt by a bottle of piss being lobbed and landed on her face.
And someone through a sign with a sharp edges and threw it into the crowd walking back to the campsite and it hit a girl in her cheek - I tried to get over to her as she was looking around to see what happened but I got swept away on the crowd.
Fucking wanker that did that.

You get really horrible people at festivals

People that take a dump at your tent.
Someone threw a tin of beans on the campsite and it covered a few of us
Argh nope never going to festivals again

BlastedPimples · 27/08/2023 07:46

Foul people to do this. Really.

I agree. It’s just blinkered denial. Women are just as capable of being disgusting and/or as violent as men. It’s a character trait and not confined to one particular gender.

teatimenow · 27/08/2023 07:48

As far as I can tell it’s middle aged men who are Oasis type fans. They’re still at gigs these days, just overweight and coked up with a pint in each hand in a football shirt. Just an observation from the last few gigs.

NetZeroZealot · 27/08/2023 07:49

I remember this happening at gigs 30 years ago. Disgusting.

Flickersy · 27/08/2023 07:54

I had no idea this was a thing. It makes you wonder why people fight and scramble to pay hundreds of pounds to attend these festivals.

I'll add this to my hundreds of reasons to avoid festivals like the plague.

GrammarTeacher · 27/08/2023 07:55

I echo a comment upthread niche festivals don't tend to be like this. FolkEast for example was an utter delight.
