I'm a terrible mum. I just picked them up 🤷 as I thought they were the cooked version 🤢. They ate the whole pack before the guy told me. It's going to be a long messy weekend. 😭 They are going to be unwell and it's all my fault

P's saying it's crap food...... It's 60% chicken, breadcrumbs and seasoning. Not really anything to be ashamed of, and pretty close to home made.

Oh yes, people love to be sanctimonious about these things. I can't help but be amazed that anyone lives to past 30 with all these "dreadful" things they eat these days!

Those things are usually precooked. You cook them to make sure they are piping hot right through. The danger is when you heat them up but not completely hot through. Properly hot or properly cold shouldn't necessarily result in illness as long as it doesn't already contain salmonella bacteria. They may well be fine.

Wednesday52 · 24/08/2023 20:49

I think I’ve done the same and eaten these uncooked straight from the fridge. They were partly cooked so didn’t taste/look raw, it was only later reading the packet that I realised they should have been heated.
It really wasn’t obvious to me either at the time. I wouldn’t repeat it but they didn’t taste disgusting and I didn’t get sick.
Hopefully it will all turn out okay here too

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 20:49

Thanks @Threenow and @KnittedCardi I should feed them arsenic next time and maybe a snack attack.... Seriously kids who are at ND we take what we can get small wins.

Theborder · 24/08/2023 20:52

Well it’s been a few hours now so it’s looking positive if no sickness.

GuineaPigPosie · 24/08/2023 20:53

As someone who is ND and works with ND children, anything they eat is a win! You sound like a great mum, OP. Please don't stress, and please don't listen to the people being negative. It seems like an easy mistake to make as they look so similar to the cooked ones!

You're doing a great job. You didn't do it on purpose, and you care enough to check. Hopefully you got a good batch and they'll be okay. Sending you and your children lots of well wishes. I hope you're feeling calmer now! Let us know how they get on ❤️

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 20:03

@DiscoBeat link in the previous page about what they are..some are ready to eat and some need to be cooked. But they look identical! Hence the confusion 🙀

I would contact Waitrose as maybe they should make them look less alike, it sounds a very easy mistake to make. Hope all ok OP .

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 20:59

Hi yes no sickness but a bit of a runny tummy. 🤞Thank you. I only got them spag bol and ramen recently with teeny weeny spring onions! So I'm taking anything as a win!

I ate partially cooked chicken a few times and was fine.

I was getting these katsu chicken bowls from the ready meal section of tescos.

It said microwave the rice bowl for 4 mins, microwave the chicken strips separately for 4 mins, or so I thought for some reason. Nice and convenient, so I think I ate about 5 or 6 over a few weeks, before I realised.

The chicken was supposed to be oven cooked for 20 fucking mins Confused 🙈

How does this work? Confused

This is actually a good shout

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 17:22

@Madwife123 sorry that made me chuckle 🤭. I remember going to the pub and they put their hand in the dog biscuits jar and are about 4 each. 😂. So they have form.

My DSIS had a Saturday job as a young teen in Penfolds (pet shop) and her and her colleagues would always help themselves to the dog biscuits too.

The chocolate comment reminds me of something my mum told me, apparently when she was a small child a free sample of chocolate came through in the post, she was born in 1937 so lived through rationing etc and so pleased to see this chocolate on the doormat, she scoffed the lot, later it turns out it was laxative chocolate and she paid a bigger price than any punishment her mum could have given her as you can imagine.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 21:13

All asleep for now, until maybe 3am bouncing of the walls. But it seems calm. @Jenasaurus I remember being starving and trying a complan milkshake gawd that made my stomach rotate!!!!

Sorry my bad just panicking. It was the manager who said. They were eating them in the cafe

Blimey. I’m astonished they could eat them if they have issues with food and they were raw.

WishingOnACar · 24/08/2023 21:20

Here’s hoping for a quiet night OP 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Iamcloey · 24/08/2023 21:20

If theyre the ones someone posted a link to it sounds like the chicken is already cooked as the packaging says not to reheat after cooking which they often state when it been cooked before. Likely the breadcrumbs need cooking to crisp up and taste better but they probably wouldn't have eaten them if they were completely raw.
Don't stress it's going to be fine
Good luck!

If its chicken it can take 24hours for symptoms.
i’ve been ill from chicken 3 times :-(

Ha- It is quite funny when people are like "you shouldn't be on your phone" when they are quite clearly... on their phones!

Jifmicroliquid · 24/08/2023 21:23

Hopefully the kids will be fine OP. These things happen and you didn’t do it on purpose. Fingers crossed for a quiet and stress-free night for you all. I think if all is good after 12 hours, you’ve dodged anything too awful.

Fecksakereallygodreally · 24/08/2023 21:32

@Islandermummy I know right!

DH did this in his student days 🤦‍♀️ I’m sorry to say he did get salmonella (and his landlady freaked out and made him leave his flat mid illness 😡). I really hope your two avoid it but don’t beat yourself up about it - DH ate 3 before he noticed they were raw and he was an adult!

Thatsridiculous · 24/08/2023 21:50

Hope they are ok OP! You didn’t do it on purpose, so don’t worry too much. It’s out of your hands now anyway.

My FIL once made himself a sandwich when he was at my house - he used the raw Bernard Matthews turkey rashers 😂
