Who was unreasonable train staff or passenger

Chaoscreated · 19/08/2023 15:31

Name changed
I am travelling today and witnessed a commotion between train worker and a passenger.
I do not have all specific details.
the train is around a 3 hour journey but there was no reserved seats and was a super off peak train.
due to cancellations of other trains this train became very busy.
I got on the train and there was no seats available in the carriage or the ones either side.
a women was getting on with a child and 2 large suitcases and a backpack.
she was getting assistance but they left as soon she boarded. There was no room. We were all at this point hovering at end of carriage by the doors.
the child got emotional and cried that she couldn’t stand that long.
the train worker came past and the women had asked if it was possible to pay to go to first class and explained that Her DC was disabled. They said there wasn’t any way but
then told us all that carriage A had seats but we couldn’t walk through the train and so the first stop we could get off and walk down and get back on.
women explained that it might take them a while because her DC is not very fast. She did not specify what was wrong with her DC but she seemed to have some form of tube.
they told her as we were standing right there they would have time and not to worry they would not Leave with out them.
the DC then sat on the floor until the stop.
myself, sister and 2 other men got off to make our way to carriage A. We did not have luggage so got off faster, anyway after she got her luggage off the train, she ran behind us but fell behind because of DC.
eventually they joined us on the carriage but there was a commotion
1.the train worker had got stressed with DC on the platform and started shouting they needed to move faster as train was going to go without them. 2. no one assisted like the said they would. 3. Due to her being the last of the group who got back on from original carriage the 4 available seats were now taking by the other 4 of us.
she wants a refund and he was saying it wasn’t their fault nothing they can do so she was going to put a complaint in. By the this point the whole Carriage could hear what was Going on.
she stood by luggage area and Dc sat on floor.
was she unreasonable ?

Note from MNHQ: please read the OP's subsequent posts before responding. She's admitted this thread is a reverse (and apologised for it!) but would still like MNers' opinions.

Anyone who didn't offer a child with an obvious disability was selfish, unreasonable and an arsehole in my opinion.

Charliebrow · 19/08/2023 15:34

It sounds like you were unreasonable along with the other 3 passengers that took advantage of the disabled child to hurry ahead and take the last remaining seats

pumpkintits · 19/08/2023 15:35

I think if I was one of those passengers who moved to carriage A to nab a seat I would offer it to the disabled child. I'm surprised no one in your group did this.

Bookworm33 · 19/08/2023 15:35

The 4 people who moved carriage were unreasonable.

DisforDarkChocolate · 19/08/2023 15:36

Feck this is depressing, I can't understand why you wouldn't give your seat to a disabled child, or help the woman instead of hurrying ahead.

user1471556818 · 19/08/2023 15:36

Why didn't you and the other passengers help her is what stands out to me.
No way would I have not offered and asked others to help.
That's my take on it

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 19/08/2023 15:36

Wow. Did none of the other passengers help with the luggage?

BellaJuno · 19/08/2023 15:37

Did you or the other passengers who changed carriages with her and took the last available seats help her at all with her luggage and disabled child? Or did you just hot foot it to tag along with them to nab the last seats then ponder who was in the wrong?

PrimalOwl10 · 19/08/2023 15:37

You all sound like unpleasant people if I see a child with a feeding tube who was struggling I'd have offered my sear and stepped into help

Sirzy · 19/08/2023 15:37

So you went and took a seat and left a disabled person standing?

could your party not have offered to help with the luggage?

it sounds like other passengers where the most unreasonable

SiblingFights · 19/08/2023 15:37

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/08/2023 15:34

This.

And the train staff WBU - they are there to help passengers

Grimbelina · 19/08/2023 15:38

Absolutely shocked that you and the three other adults with you didn't appear to help her with the children (including the disabled child), the bags or offer her your seats. Is this a reverse?

Lostmyself3 · 19/08/2023 15:38

I echo what everyone else has said. Are you for real? You ran ahead of this poor woman and child and took the remaining available seat?!!! I’m hoping you’re a troll and this isn’t the world we’re currently living in.

multivac · 19/08/2023 15:38

Your OP is wrong: YOU were vvvU. And selfish. I can't believe you acted that way, tbh.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 19/08/2023 15:38

WTF am I reading? You knew the child was disabled and were finding it difficult to manage and no one offered to help her with her luggage so she could concentrate on her child and then none of you offered the seat you knew she was aiming for(and you only knew that because you heard her asking for a seat!)
YRBVU and a bit of a twat.

TipsyAndTommy · 19/08/2023 15:39

I cannot believe that you can't see that you are part of the problem.

There is no way I could watch a woman with luggage and a disabled child struggle while I hit footed past them to make sure I got a seat. Poor woman!

MarshyMcMarshFace · 19/08/2023 15:39

I would have assisted the woman with her luggage.

All you did was prove that the fastest, fittest grab the seats and leave the disabled struggling without.

I am surprised the 4 of you could just sit there and witness all that.

Horrible.

Wishitsnows · 19/08/2023 15:39

So no passengers including yourself didn’t offer a clearly disabled child their seat. That is shocking. The guard should have got one of the selfish passengers to move. Terrible nobody helped with the luggage either.

Dolores87 · 19/08/2023 15:40

Why did noone in your party help her and why did you all take the last remaining seats knowing why she needed to move. Wtf.

100% agree

BungleandGeorge · 19/08/2023 15:41

So the other 4 able bodied passengers ear wigged the conversation and decided to take the seats? You let her with her luggage and disabled child, didn’t help and didn’t offer the kid a seat. What total arseholes those 4 adults are! I think the train clamp at should have at least tried to free up one of the priority seats from somebody not disabled

CakAndMoreCake · 19/08/2023 15:41

I’m guessing you were actually the woman with the child in this?
I’ve had similar happen to me

Nomorecoconutboosts · 19/08/2023 15:41

This really does read like a reverse.

or the bit about not having the specific details sounds like a big drip drip may be coming…depending on the answers you get the op can be elaborated on to make things seem better or worse depending on your standpoint.

in case it is not, the 4 who got off faster sound very selfish. To not even offer to carry a bag…very poor
