To have no time for ‘anti-human’ people?

I’ve seen it quite a lot recently- mostly on here rather than in real life admittedly. I’m referring to both the ‘I don’t like children people; I much prefer animals’ contingent as well as the ‘wouldn’t it be better if humans just died out’ approach.

I’ve been trying to pinpoint what it is that irks me, and I think it’s that this attitude seems like a slightly different version of “I’m not like other girls.” - an attempt to separate and elevate and basically look down on everyone else in your category.

The thing is, we are all human. Unless you are literally living off grid with wolves or whatever, you have not opted out of humanity. Whatever makes a human, that is what you are, and you are to some degree or other not only invested in but contributing to the whole operation, children and climate change included.

The answer to humanity’s ills and issues is not to reject everyone else who somehow isn’t as special and above humanity as these people seem to imagine they are!

Yes I can. So your position is that people who think the end of the human is ultimately a positive thing are allowed to express that opinion, it’s only people who say they are longing for it who should kill themselves or be silent?

Find me anywhere on this thread where I’ve suggested anything about anyone killing themselves.

You’re another one who’s being deliberately belligerent as far as I can see. Why have you taken such issue with my comments as to get all shirty and confrontational about it?

Yes, clearly, if you look at my OP, you’ll see that I’m suggesting that those sorts of dramatic, posturing opinions about despising humans to the point of wishing their extinction irritates me, so it’s fairly logical to imagine I’d rather they were quiet on that front. Why does that make you so confrontational like @ItsNotRocketSalad and @daliesque ? I don’t get it.

Why can’t you just disagree (like some others have done) and enter into the discussion about the merits or otherwise of humanity’s existence? Why does it have to be, “Oh, so you think people should immediately kill themselves?!” in that stroppy tone?

I honestly cannot understand the mentality. It’s as if some posters automatically assume that any opening post is an attack on them.

Wow I’ve literally only tried to clarify your position and asked you two fairly polite questions.
confrontational 😂.
im genuinely sorry if you took my tone as stroppy. It seemed to me that you were saying if people really felt that wat they would opt not to exist anymore…I.e kill themselves. And the fact that they haven’t done that means their opinion is null and void.
that strikes me as rather harsh so tried to clarify if that’s what you really meant.
No need to get a strop on.

Myfavouritepenguin · 20/08/2023 09:54

@Lovesacake
Yeah, nice try at the wide-eyed innocence there. Look at your first post to me and see if you think it’s just a nice neutral attempt to ‘clarify’. If that’s your idea of polite, I hope you don’t have to write many emails for work.

OP posts:
Lovesacake · 20/08/2023 09:58

Yes thanks have been writing emails for work for over twenty years and never had a complaint so don’t worry.
is it because I didn’t say ‘please’? I accept I could have said please.
or do you generally consider it impolite if someone asks you to clarify your position?
I didn’t even say whether I agreed or disagreed with you. I literally tried to understand your point.
maybe chill out a bit.

itsmyp4rty · 20/08/2023 10:04

Who are these people? The only people I know who say these sorts of things are generally just having a bad day and making a sweeping statement based on that.

If these people are only online and then only on MN why would it bother you? You don't know them or what reasons they have for saying it or even have to have anything to do with them.

@Lovesacake It wasn’t the lack of please, no! It was the flippancy as you well know - the accusation that I was suggesting that people kill themselves ffs. That’s fairly offensive.

But perhaps I should chill out, yes. But you are not the only one who has been belligerent/deliberately obtuse on this thread in response to what was fairly mild stuff in my OP.

Well, indeed. But isn’t AIBU for random musings about the quirks of the world and what pisses us off about it?

Find it very annoying when people are like “I prefer animals to most humans” or “most humans are stupid” but yeah they’re basically saying “except for me 🙂” like they’re better then everyone else.

I don’t find it so annoying when people say humans should die out because they’re probably right tbh. And I assume they’re including themselves in that contingent.

That seems fair enough. I definitely agree that there’s an implied ‘except for me’ caveat in there somewhere!

I hate people/humans because too many are disgusting, nasty and vile louts who only care about money and themselves. People are allowed to hate if they want to.

Clearly people are “allowed to hate”. But don’t you think there’s something absurd in saying you “hate humans” when you are a human?

It’s different from saying you hate rude people, or loud people or violent people; if you hate just ‘humans’, you yourself, by definition, have to be in that category! The only thing that all humans have in common is that they’re human, as are you. So people making that claim either hate themselves (which is possible but very sad) or they are implying, as a pp said, a special exemption for themselves, which is irritating (hence my initial irritation).

Op to be clear….are you saying that everyone who believes the human race is intrinsically harmful to the planet and it would be better if we were wiped out should immediately kill themselves or their opinion is null and void and should never be expressed?

I would say humans aren't intrinsically harmful to the planet. We are harmful to humanity ( and to other animals) . Otherwise, why not go hell for leather on the burning of fossil fuels and kill ourselves off sooner? We need to keep ourselves alive by not trashing our ability to live and breathe and make our time on the planet tolerable. Yes there probably needs to be fewer of us, but that is already happening with the collapsing birth rate. Only about 4% of animals on Earth are wild. Yes, without us they will be able to recover, but they will do that by killing and eating all the farm animals, zoo animals and pets who cannot survive without us, because they have been bred for captivity. If the 4% of wild animals dont make it, in a few million years, Earth will just do something else. The planet will be absolutely fine, no matter what we do to it. We won't be.

Badleg85 · 21/08/2023 17:59

I agree with you OP. When I see/hear people like "oh I just can't deal with other people I just want to lock myself away so I don't have to put up with small talk etc" I just think "fuck off then!"

A lot of it is screaming superiority and the "I'm not like everyone else" mentality only they really aren't that special.

And I say that as an introvert
