Might be a controversial topic. I'm all for people doing what makes them feel good and confident, however, is it just me that thinks the trend of dying/microblading eyebrows looks ridiculous? It looks so fake, especially on those with fairer hair and go for a really dark eyebrow colour. I just can't understand why people think it looks attractive.

I'm just jealous of their neat eyebrows. I have apparently inherited my brows from an orangutan because they're ridiculously long and curly and unmanageable. And ginger, to top it all off. I've considered waxing them off and getting microbladed just to have tidy brows.

Buy yourself a little eyebrow scissors and then use a spoolie to comb them out and trim off the wild excess.

Oh I do, they just grow at light speed. Within a week I'll be finding rogue hairs curling up or backwards or god knows what.

I feel like I spend half my life spoolie-ing and trimming and trying to gel them into submission. I'm going for embracing the chaos and hoping curly brows come into fashion soon.

@explainthistomeplease personal grooming is the act of looking after and caring for one’s appearance, as in trimming nails, looking after hair and skin, teeth , shaving , trimming, etc . I don’t think it’s possible to over groom surely? Having gel nails fits that category, same as maybe getting some lovely looking micro bladed eyebrows as opposed to having none . Maybe a tiny bit of Botox to get rid of frown lines . All perfect good grooming.

explainthistomeplease · 18/08/2023 13:55

Subjective though isn't it? What is or isn't overgrooming.
I think I'm quite well groomed. Great teeth, floss every night. Pedicures. Not manicures though. Regular trims of long hair (which luckily hasn't gone grey yet at 57). I stay fit and slim. And shape my own brows. But no Botox or tweakments. So by your measure I'm probably not very well groomed!

No, I don’t think overgrooming is subjective. It’s pretty basic. Surely if you don’t choose to have Botox , that’s your choice. Some do .Where did I point out it’s a necessity . I’m not the one judging on here, like some .

explainthistomeplease · 18/08/2023 14:24

Don't think I'm judging either @Tourmalines
But you don't think it's possible to over groom and I'm genuinely fascinated to know in that case when enough is enough.

Well, you tell me? I’ve already stated my opinion.

explainthistomeplease · 18/08/2023 14:33

Ok that's clear. No limit. Keep striving for perfection - nails, brows, smoothness - because you'll never get there; there's always more to do.

How do you equate grooming for perfection.? Surely it’s more for self pride and confidence. You do you, let other people do what they want . And yes, you do sound judgmental.

explainthistomeplease · 18/08/2023 14:51

That, again, is subjective @Tourmalines
I can see where I sit in the grooming hierarchy. I have friends who do zero grooming apart from the odd hair cut. To them I am probably over groomed. I definitely take more time and trouble over my appearance than them. So it is always fascinating to me to learn what happens further up the grooming scale to me.

I'm not judgemental. But I admit it worries me that many women take so much time and trouble to erase signs of aging for example. I have talked to my 25 year old daughter about this, and she says contemporaries of hers are getting Botox. And that it's hard being young and feeling the pressure not to age at all. I seem to have skipped that feeling of pressure and am very grateful. But if a woman can deal with it, fair do's to her

Tourmalines · 18/08/2023 15:13

i think what you do and what most people do, (including myself )is basic self care . Botox is big in the industry, and in my opinion some young girls absolutely don’t need it and start too early . We havnt come from that generation and the pressure is definitely on, what with all the selfies and social media . On more mature wrinkles it can and does help , without going overboard and looking frozen . What I think is overdoing it and starting way to young are the fillers . There can be some disasters there , as in pillow face .

lastminutewednesday · 18/08/2023 16:31

I have Botox and have for 6 years or so. Not one person has ever noticed, except to say I look well and don't have many lines. I've just now had my nails done and I'm having my very sparse lopsided eye brows micro bladed in September. I can't wait to not have to faff about with them in the mornings. Other than that I just wear a bit of concealer, bronzer and sometimes some mascara. The stuff I have just makes me look better with minimal fuss, so i actually see it as being low maintenance in a way .

WhatNowBarry · 18/08/2023 12:22

Can you ask for almost nothing?! I mean, I have very sparse eyebrows and would love to get mine filled in nicely, but I want the very slightest effect so that they look normal when I'm not wearing make-up, and I can still fill them in a bit with eyebrow pencil when I want them more noticeable with make-up.

Yes you can with most artists

A lot of my clients do want a really subtle look and I am happy to do that for them

WhatNowBarry · 18/08/2023 20:37

@ifyougochasingrabbits Please come and do them for me!!!
