Might be a controversial topic. I'm all for people doing what makes them feel good and confident, however, is it just me that thinks the trend of dying/microblading eyebrows looks ridiculous? It looks so fake, especially on those with fairer hair and go for a really dark eyebrow colour. I just can't understand why people think it looks attractive.

The only "controversial" thing here is why you think it's ok to slag off other women anonymously for doing something that has literally no impact on you at all.

Hardly slagging anyone off! The OP isn't saying anything personal about these women or making assumptions about them, she just thinks their eyebrows look shit 😂

Ah yes, silly me. It's implicit that she thinks the women who dye their eyebrows are clever, intelligent, sensible women, worthy of her respect. I should have read between the lines of "ridiculous", "fake" and "I just can't understand".

PerspiringElizabeth · 18/08/2023 09:12

My 65 year old mother is very glad microblading exists thank you very much, and likes her new brows - she has alopecia. Have considered it myself, love a prominent brow.

lovewoola · 18/08/2023 08:24

@nameitagain Well the people I know who have had them all look very uniform and neat as I said. I've debated myself as have naturally thin eyebrows but just not 100%.

The internet is full of examples if very natural non 'perfect' looking micro bladed brows. I'm not commenting on whether these examples were needed or not. They are just good examples of thoroughly natural fluffy micro bladed brows.

Why can't plain looking girls be perceived as beautiful too? It's in the eye of the beholder right? Do you know the history of why women shave?

😂 rather gone against your own point there. It is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Not all beholder will have the same idea of pretty, will they. Lots of people will find, to use your phrasing, ‘plain’ women pretty.

I’d hardly say microblade eyebrows, gel nails and Botox is over groomed .

What would you describe as 'overgroomed'?

TyrannosaurusSex · 18/08/2023 09:18

It's just fashion isn't it.

I feel every generaton says about the latest fashions "why do they think X looks good?"

VeridicalVagabond · 18/08/2023 09:18

I'm just jealous of their neat eyebrows. I have apparently inherited my brows from an orangutan because they're ridiculously long and curly and unmanageable. And ginger, to top it all off. I've considered waxing them off and getting microbladed just to have tidy brows.

lovewoola · 18/08/2023 09:58

@nameitagain I'm not sure what point you are trying to make? Imo in real life you can tell when someone has them done, i'm not saying they don't look nice though, most people don't naturally have fluffy, thick, uniform (as in symmetrical) brows. You can disagree of course but you aren't going to change my opinion.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 17/08/2023 22:20

They're still better than those godamn awful skinny brows we had in the 90s/00s! Now they were truly horrendous!!

I am a victim of both eyebrow fashions. I plucked mine 90’s brows to nothing and had to have them microbladed in back to bushy recently 🥲

Grrrpredictivetex · 18/08/2023 10:31

DilemmaDelilah · 17/08/2023 22:11

I had my eyebrows done (powderbrows) before I started chemotherapy. I went for a light colour (my hair, when I have any, I don't at the moment, is mostly grey) and as natural a shape as possible, but they still felt very dark and unnatural to start with, faded a bit now thank goodness! For me it was about confidence and not wanting to look like a 'victim' of cancer.

In ten or twenty years time people are going to look back at photos of girls now and wonder how on earth they thought they looked good! Just awful! I don't understand why they can't look at actresses for examples of what looks good - I can't think of any that have gone for the huge caterpillar eyebrows - rather than copying the plastered with make up Groucho Marx look!

However, I am old and rarely wear anything other than powder eyeliner, mascara (when I have eyelashes) and lipstick any more. I do remember wearing at least three colours of shimmery eyeshadow at the same time when I was in my twenties, plus foundation, blusher etc. etc. so perhaps I was just as bad but in a different way at that time.

I'm in the same boat, would be interested to hear more about this.

Grrrpredictivetex · 18/08/2023 10:32

@DilemmaDelilah also hope you're doing well.

Boodahh · 18/08/2023 10:37

I have sparse eyebrows, with one more so than the other, so I am thinking about getting something 'done' about it. But it would have to look subtle!

ManateeFair · 18/08/2023 11:21

Microblading and eyebrow tints (like Botox and fillers) are one of those things that you only notice when it's done badly - you've probably seen thousands of people walking around with microblading without even noticing it because it's been done well. When it's done properly it doesn't look ridiculous.

I certainly see some terrible eyebrows on people, but I think that's always been the case. The ultra-thin brows of the early 00s were hideous and so were the terrible 'sperm brows' as my friend calls them, where people used to have a big rounded hook bit and then taper them into a tiny thin tail. In the 1930s a lot of women used to shave their brows off completely and paint on new ones in a solid line. Trends come and go and some people will always take it to extremes. It's not something I can get too worked up about, really.

My own eyebrows are naturally thick and dark so I'm also just glad thicker brows are fashionable again!

DilemmaDelilah · 18/08/2023 11:29

@Grrrpredictivetex you say you are in the same boat... Chemo? I had to have my brows done before I started chemo otherwise apparently there can be some strange reactions and the ink colours change. So if you have already started chemo it may be too late, sorry. If you haven't started yet then you may still have a chance to get yours done before you start, if that is what you decide you would like. But check with your oncologist that they are happy for you to do that. Mine encouraged me to do so.

There are cancer charities which give help with make-up to make the most of what you have and to give the impression that you have what you do not .... in my area there is a wonderful charity called FORCE which is based right next to the hospital and they offer make up classes for people affected by cancer. They also have a wig service, but I'm not bothering with that. If I was younger I probably would. I'm going proudly bald!

I went for powder brows because my natural brows are sparse and light-coloured and I felt they would look more natural on me. I am too old to care much about fashion, but I do feel that one can get away with having no hair, but not with having no brows. My eyelashes are nearly all gone but I find that using a powder eyeliner gives the impression of having eyelashes.

I hope everything goes well for you.

You still don't seem to understand that you are only noticing the ones where you can tell they've been done. You've definitely seen loads of dyed or micro-bladed brows on people that you thought were their natural brows. You didn't know they were microbladed because you actually couldn't tell they'd been done. That's the whole point.

My boss has very, very fair hair and her natural brows are barely visible. She has brows tattooed or microbladed or something, I'm not actually sure which. None of us had any idea that they weren't her own brows until she mentioned it. They are the right shade for her and look fantastic. She showed us an old photo of her without her brows done, and her micro/tattooed brows make such a difference to her face. They completely lift her features and make her face more defined and expressive. They aren't dark, thick, solid or unnaturally uniform.

Thank you. I'm past chemo and have had all clear, however my lashes and brows never really grew back. Just about got hair but it's really thin but hey still alive 😂. Thanks for your help.

Itsallsostressful · 18/08/2023 11:50

My brows became very sparse and fair, really hardly visible. I took the plunge to get them microbraded and love the. Natural colour great shape....I look like me again. Not everyone ends up with black slugs on their face....and if they do cos that's what they want why not !!!!

huggiess · 18/08/2023 12:05

I think Bella hadid has been having skinny brows recently ! But she is a supermodel doubt they'd look any good on me !!

huggiess · 18/08/2023 12:05

I do like a nice shaped brow though.
I'm not a fan of lamination.

ConstitutionHill · 18/08/2023 12:14

BMrs · 17/08/2023 22:57

I had my eyebrows micro bladed two years ago as my natural ones were different shapes and length. I think they look pretty natural but I have plenty of eyebrow hair too 🤷🏼‍♀️

They look fab! Ignore the haterzzz

WhatNowBarry · 18/08/2023 12:22

Can you ask for almost nothing?! I mean, I have very sparse eyebrows and would love to get mine filled in nicely, but I want the very slightest effect so that they look normal when I'm not wearing make-up, and I can still fill them in a bit with eyebrow pencil when I want them more noticeable with make-up.

bpirockin · 18/08/2023 12:28

I was going to clarify my views and belief that the OP was referring to OTT examples of powder brows etc, as opposed to more natural examples with a bit of gap-filling/definition, but as nameitagain appears to be the expert on both brows and the OP, will leave it to them.

Unlike people with naturally dark hair who dye it blonde and have the same look I suppose 🙄

Shurleyknot · 18/08/2023 12:30

Anyway I shall merrily skip into my eye trio appointment this morning and get my white blonde lashes and brows tinted and look and feel fabulous when I leave the salon!

CocoonofDavid · 18/08/2023 12:39

@WhatNowBarry you can ask for whatever you like, just make sure you look at the artist’s previous work so you know they are on the same page as you. (If you’re based in London/Herts way I can recommend someone). And speak to your practitioner- when I first spoke to her she said she had clients who wanted the big bushy look and clients that wanted more natural, or more skinny brows etc, and after discussing the pros and cons would happily provide the look they wanted.

i had mine done a few years ago as I lost 1/2 of one eyebrow due to stress/thyroid issues and it never grew back. Despite being naturally pale skinned my eyebrows are quite dark so I looked very odd with 1/2 a bald brow (typically the fat end towards your nose).

They looked so much better micro bladed, and meant I didn’t feel the need to faff with brow pencil every morning, I don’t wear make up on a daily basis so I’m pleased I can just wash my face and go.

I had them colourfilled yesterday, as after 2 years they’d faded (weirdly the most faded part was the bald bit!) and I was having to draw them in again. As of this morning they are going through the super dark/sharpie look healing stage, but I’m not worried as of course they’ll fade in the next few weeks and go back to looking natural. Aside from when they’re healing they look great (imo!) and when it’s come up in conversation no one has realised they aren’t real.
