Might be a controversial topic. I'm all for people doing what makes them feel good and confident, however, is it just me that thinks the trend of dying/microblading eyebrows looks ridiculous? It looks so fake, especially on those with fairer hair and go for a really dark eyebrow colour. I just can't understand why people think it looks attractive.

The extreme, unnatural ones do look awful.
I’ve sometimes wondered that if you get the puffy lips done, they throw in the thick dark square eyebrows, comically long fake eyelashes and excessively long nails too, because you so often see someone with all of them.

BMrs · 17/08/2023 22:57

I had my eyebrows micro bladed two years ago as my natural ones were different shapes and length. I think they look pretty natural but I have plenty of eyebrow hair too 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sadly I got unrestricted access to tweezers when I was around 12 and the brows never grew back, no matter what serums/oils I tried. So I had to resort to microblading, but I only top it up every 2-3 years or so, not yearly as it is "officially" advised. Same with lip fillers - I had a tiny 0.5 injection 15 months ago, and it still holds, especially can be seen in hot weather/climate when the face gets a bit swollen - the fillers don't fill the lip by themselves, all they do is attract and hold WATER. And they don't dissolve in 6 months at all. But sadly 1) too many people are too insecure and top up the treatments too often 2) too many injections practitioners are too greedy and push their customers too much. That's how we and up with puffy trout pouts and brows entering the room before the gal.

Moveoverdarlin · 17/08/2023 23:01

Yes OP! A prime example of this was Natasha Hamilton from Atomic Kitten who was in the Mail Online yesterday. She is fair skinned, freckly with red hair and she now possesses the thickest, jet black eyebrows which looked positively wet. Just looks bizarre.

BaldButNotOut · 17/08/2023 23:01

It's just fashion isn't it.

Like a pp said some of the looks from years gone by were not so great either. Shimmery blue eyeshadow for eg. Or pink eyeshadow which caused my mum to remark that I looked like I had conjunctivitis. 90s skinny brows didn't look good on anyone and it turns out the overplucking was more permanent than lip fillers, for some. Another one from the 90s is fat brows drastically thinning after the first couple of millimetres, like big commas. Awful. I've seen that recently too though, on youngsters.

StupidHip · 17/08/2023 22:25

I keep reading that narrow brows are back and the slugs I see everywhere are over, but I haven't seen any evidence of it irl.

Can't come bloody soon enough, me being a victim of 80's overplucked thin brown line and all that. I've tried to grow them and suffered 8 weeks of looking like a twat, only to end up looking like a hedgehog with alopecia onset.

PatientZorro · 17/08/2023 23:05

It’s the one beauty tip I took away from all the primping and faffing for my wedding - had my fair eyebrows shaped and darkened (with an eyebrow pencil, nothing permanent just before the big day, I’m not crazy!)….it made such a difference - framed my face dontcherknow, amazing, still doing it now.

bpirockin · 17/08/2023 23:06

I totally agree. I have rather rubbish brows and wanted to get them micro-bladed but was unable due to medication. I have to stop myself laughing out loud at some of the horrors I've seen. I have a folder with pictures of my favourite brows.

I think that at the moment the desired look is "false" and the more false the better. I saw a friend who had the most natural eyelash extensions, I assumed she'd just discovered an amazing mascara, a few years back. Roll on a couple of years and the girls all have these heavy looking, intense black, comical lashes that look totally weighed down and caked, and brows like pained on caterpillars - absolutely bonkers to this ol' gal. Give my a nicely shaped Lauren Bacall / Megan Fox brow any day.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 17/08/2023 23:10

@DiddyDiddykong Noooooo don't say that!!! 😫

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 17/08/2023 23:13

Yours look nice @BMrs. Mine are ridiculous if I don't dye them dark brown, they are much lighter than my natural hair colour and lighten even more this time of year to make them almost invisible.
The fashion a few years ago where it looked as though girls had stuck false mustaches on their brown lines was hysterical.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 17/08/2023 23:14

They're still better than those godamn awful skinny brows we had in the 90s/00s! Now they were truly horrendous!!

Mine never grew back properly 😭

Ok I'll bite..

You "don't live in an area that you'd expect people to have too much artificial work done either" 👀

I have microbladed eyebrows, gel nails.. and my GP next door neighbour does my Botox.

We live in a very nice area. Big detached 5 bedroom houses. I even have a Masters degree, I'm Chartered in my profession and my husband answers to Dr.

Unpick that.

It could mean she lives in a rural, remote area where it would be more unusual?

BaldButNotOut · 17/08/2023 23:32

I guess not many rabbits or horses microblade but surely people who live in the countryside do.

That's exactly the kind of place I'd expect to find the over groomed. 😆

Tourmalines · 18/08/2023 00:23

I’d hardly say microblade eyebrows, gel nails and Botox is over groomed .

larkstar · 18/08/2023 01:31

I dislike the apparently vain quest for perfection, the self obsession, the fashion hype as well as the look (and often the execution): why not have ones ears cut off and have them drawn on perfectly too? It is. That. Ridiculous.

I would!

Well I wouldn’t!

Brunoandthebigfoot · 18/08/2023 02:00

My friend recently had chemo so lost her brows. She’s had them micro bladed and honestly, they look great. Just the right size, not too dark etc. The big bushy look is a choice but they don’t have to be that way if you don’t want them too.

She was the bad example I thought of when reading OP.

Of course it can look good if done subtly/well and is great for those who want replacements or some definition, but the thick dark smears are awful.

I see 16 year olds with the eyebrows, OTT contouring, overfilled lips (how can anyone do this to someone so young?) and ridiculous talon nails and it makes me so sad.

LordSalem · 18/08/2023 02:40

I don't have natural eyebrows. I had some done via microblading six years ago, and they faded to red/purple. They were also slightly wonky. I have had to go back to drawing them on. Pencil doesn't last, they smear. Liquid eyeliner is the only thing that works. So yeah, I have drawn on eyebrows. I've perfected it over the years so they really are almost symmetrical every single day (none of this sisters not twins rubbish).
I am judged daily, but also wear a lot of black eyeshadow so it's all open fire. I honestly couldn’t give a fuck. I prefer having eyebrows than a bald brow. My hair is black, so are my drawn on eyebrows. I get that you're taking aim at a different audience that doesn't really include me but it really does feel shitty to be judged daily by random people, looked at like you've got three heads - when to be fair, if you had to do three sets of eyebrows on all three of your heads every day, those people could fuck off back into obscurity x 3 Grin

ItstimeToMoveagain · 18/08/2023 06:06

I had microblading about 5 years ago so it's all gone now. Couldn't afford to have it done again so resorted to the eyebrow/lash growth stuff and it's really worked. I look much better with a bit of eyebrow !

Fairyliz · 18/08/2023 06:14

I don’t know, I think I prefer them to that look of rolls of flab, encapsulated into far too tight clothes, that 2/3 of the population seem to favour. They would save a fortune if only they didn’t keep eating so much.

See how rude it is to comment on other people’s appearance op?

I just haven't seen evidence of them looking nice and natural, everyone I've seen I can tell it looks really fake. I don't live in an area that you'd expect people to have too much artificial work done either.

You see the obviously fake ones and can tell they are obvious and fake. You see the really good ones and don't have a clue they are done because they don't look obvious and fake. I can't understand how people don't understand this very simple principle.
