Might be a controversial topic. I'm all for people doing what makes them feel good and confident, however, is it just me that thinks the trend of dying/microblading eyebrows looks ridiculous? It looks so fake, especially on those with fairer hair and go for a really dark eyebrow colour. I just can't understand why people think it looks attractive.

I totally agree. I have rather rubbish brows and wanted to get them micro-bladed but was unable due to medication. I have to stop myself laughing out loud at some of the horrors I've seen. I have a folder with pictures of my favourite brows.

I think that at the moment the desired look is "false" and the more false the better. I saw a friend who had the most natural eyelash extensions, I assumed she'd just discovered an amazing mascara, a few years back. Roll on a couple of years and the girls all have these heavy looking, intense black, comical lashes that look totally weighed down and caked, and brows like pained on caterpillars - absolutely bonkers to this ol' gal. Give my a nicely shaped Lauren Bacall / Megan Fox brow any day.

You don't totally agree at all. The op says they think micro bladed brows are ridiculous. You then proceed to say how you want them but can't . You have a folder full of images and like Megan fox brows (which are clearly tattooed). You obviously life good micro bladed brows. The op says they think all micro bladed brows are rubbish so you don't agree at all

I dislike the apparently vain quest for perfection, the self obsession, the fashion hype as well as the look (and often the execution): why not have ones ears cut off and have them drawn on perfectly too? It is. That. Ridiculous.

@Brunoandthebigfoot My friend recently had chemo so lost her brows. She’s had them micro bladed and honestly, they look great. Just the right size, not too dark etc. The big bushy look is a choice but they don’t have to be that way if you don’t want them too.

How do you reconcile your judgemental views with posts like this?

nameitagain · 18/08/2023 06:34

Rather than judge what people choose to do with their brows, I am rather judgemental about people who think they know what looks good and then proceed to describe one type of brow and declare all micro bladed brows are ridiculous. I defy anyone to say these brows looked better before and/or are poorly done. They just look groomed and elegant and far better than scrappy brows. Certainly not ridiculous and I doubt the naysayers would even realise they were 'done'

The reality is like anything there are good and bad versions. People have been tinting their eyebrows for generations, it can look really subtle or really bad. The same goes for micro blading.

Most of the times you notice the bad ones but you don’t notices the good ones.

i think they look better after but I would maybe prefer something in between. To me they do look "done" though because brows aren't that uniform & neat in real life for the vast majority.

BatsHaveButtcheeks · 18/08/2023 07:56

I have mine microbladed. I over plucked, and I'm very fair, so I looked like I had no brows, especially in photos. I get very close to my patients, and none have realised they're not real.

When there's no regulation, literally anyone can do a day course on how to scratch in dye, or inject fillers, to another's face. It's an art, so just like anything, if you pay cheap, you get cheap results. Mind you, some like the cheap look.

Wsmi · 18/08/2023 07:57

What about the nasty fake lashes that everyone’s wearing. Unnatural looking mops sitting on their eyelids.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 18/08/2023 07:57

Eyebrows by Crayola is a look that should never, ever come back in fashion.

we this doesn't make sense as Megan Fox doesn't have natural looking eyebrows amongst other things.

Laminating them is the funniest 😂

Yes, I had never seen it up close in real life before, but a new young PA in my office has them and I couldnt' stop looking at them. They are very very odd looking in real life.

HarlanPepper · 18/08/2023 08:02

My eyebrows are microbladed. I don't wear any make-up apart from mascara when I can be bothered to, and they look as natural as the rest of my face. It helps that the artist worked completely within my natural brow shape so that the hair strokes are all under my eyebrow hairs, giving them a fuller look rather than a different shape.

LordEmsworth · 18/08/2023 08:04

The only "controversial" thing here is why you think it's ok to slag off other women anonymously for doing something that has literally no impact on you at all.

I get my eyebrows dyed. It looks better than the long straggly greys in the middle. You can go swivel if you think I'm going to stop because you don't like it...

Diddykong · 17/08/2023 22:22

They'll be back. I remember as a teenager cringing at the big bushy eyebrows some of the older Hollywood women had back then and how everyone with skinny brows was so much better. We are now back to bushy, so skinny is just around the corner.

Agree! One of my dds already has skinny brows 😯

Banana1979 · 18/08/2023 08:07
mind your business GIF

lots of people have nanoblading ect it looks nice but doesn’t last long
and expensive
I want to get it done as my brows are patchy won’t grow because had them threaded for years, which absolutely ruined them
i have naturally very black very thick hair so lining them underneath looks ridiculous as the pencil is obvious and wipes off during the day
maybe let people do them 🙄🙄🙄

lovewoola · 18/08/2023 08:10

@Banana1979 the mind your own business makes no sense. If everyone minded their own business AIBU wouldn't exist 😆😆

ethelredonagoodday · 18/08/2023 08:14

Agree with @Diddykong on this. We'll be back to thin eyebrows next.

It's like all fashion - just when everyone thinks they've got the hang of it, the goalposts change. It's almost like it's a money making industry... 🤔🤣

They are being photographed at the salon to show them at their most. 'Perfect. In real life they can be brushed up and look way more fluffy and natural.

ifyougochasingrabbits · 18/08/2023 08:18

I do agree that the slug like massive unnatural brows look silly but I am a microblading / semi permanent make up artist and I specialise in recreating brows that have been lost (illness / hormones etc) and a very natural look

It can honestly be life changing. People underestimate the difference that great brows can make to a face.

lovewoola · 18/08/2023 08:24

@nameitagain Well the people I know who have had them all look very uniform and neat as I said. I've debated myself as have naturally thin eyebrows but just not 100%.

I know what you mean with the general, boobs, brow and pout look. I mean it's what young girls want to look like these days. I remember wanting to conform to fashionable beauty standards at that age but wish these beautiful girls could appreciate their natural beauty. I find it so sad. At least we didnt mess too much with our features back then.

We didn't mess too much with our features because the option wasn't there.
I'm sure I would have if I could have.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 18/08/2023 08:29

Hardly slagging anyone off! The OP isn't saying anything personal about these women or making assumptions about them, she just thinks their eyebrows look shit 😂

Just the beautiful young girls then? What about the plain ones without natural beauty?
If you worry about the preoccupation with appearance that leads women to have procedures, yet still refer to women in terms of their youth and beauty, than you are part of the problem.

Flowersforalgernon1 · 18/08/2023 08:44

Why can't plain looking girls be perceived as beautiful too? It's in the eye of the beholder right? Do you know the history of why women shave?

Plain people are considered beautiful by some people. That's quite a strange comment though. Objectively attractive people are more objectively attractive 🤷🏻‍♀️. Objectively funny people or kind people or healthy people or loyd people are objectively just that. This doesn't mean there aren't people who will find that particular plain person attractive but it makes no sense to ask why objectively not attractive people are not considered as physically attractive as objectively attractive people.

I don't know. You tell me. It was you that made the reference to their youth and 'natural beauty' as a reason they don't need to enhance their appearance. There are many strong arguments why women don't 'need' procedures. Surely you can see that arguing they are already 'young and beautiful' is not one of them?
Very few women fit society's idea of beautiful. Even fewer amongst our number are young, and don't remain that way for long. Enhancements are always aimed at looking more beautiful or looking younger. If you dislike them so much you might want to check the value you personally place on 'youthful beauty' as this is exactly where the problem originates.
