Husband unreasonable air fryer demands

Anotherdayanotherairfryer · 17/08/2023 20:41

So. Can anyone solve an argument …
husband is demanding a ‘ ninja foodie flex drawer’ becuase he thinks it will be a good investment. on the other hand I think it’s a waste of money….. I mean we can afford it … but it feels extreme, we have an oven already ! Any one say it’s a life changer … if not I’m not interested !

Air fryers are fantastic,

You'll use your oven less, less and less.

Window82 · 17/08/2023 20:42

yeah they’re great v quick. Indulge him

Window82 · 17/08/2023 20:42

We barely use our ovens!

Lulabelles · 17/08/2023 20:43

Yeah they are fab. Quick to use and cheaper to run. Best thing I bought in a while!

Chickenkeev · 17/08/2023 20:43

You have the money. I don't see why you have a problem tbh.

RobertaFirmino · 17/08/2023 20:44

If it means that he will be the one cooking dinner in it all the time then yes, surely it's a fantastic investment!

RoseRows · 17/08/2023 20:44

I resisted too but they really are brilliant

Wenfy · 17/08/2023 20:45

Depends what you eat already. If you eat a lot of meat, processed food, or fried food then get it as it will definitely save you time and money. If, however, you mostly bake from scratch then it’s not really a decent subsitute.

ToxicPositivity · 17/08/2023 20:48

Dh bought the ninja foodie max, I think it is. It's a pain in the arse. Takes up the only decent prep area in the kitchen. We're a family of 6, cannot cook for 6 in it unless it's soup etc so not saving time or effort at all. I burn myself in the fecker everytime, granted I do have a disability related to my hands and I do tend to burn them on the oven but certainly not every time.

Bookchildtable · 17/08/2023 20:50

I bought a double air fryer a few weeks ago (because I'm having a new kitchen fitted soon and felt it might get us through a couple of weeks with no kitchen). In the 3 weeks my oven has been used twice (by dc2 making pizza). It's been great.
The only thing is you need to turn things.
Definitely buy some liners it makes it steady just to clean a silicone liner after use.

Ostryga · 17/08/2023 20:51

Honestly I usually hate faddy cooking things but I adore my air fryer. I barely use the oven anymore. It’s so quick and easy. I have the same ninja, I say go for it!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 17/08/2023 20:52

We bought a ninja thing which is basically a small oven that does all sorts including roast, bake, air fryer etc. it’s amazing and so much cheaper to run than our actual oven.

This isn’t true at all 😂 I don’t eat processed food and make everything from scratch (I’m a chef!) and use it for pretty much everything - baked fish, quick pasta, buffalo wings, baked burrata, it makes the best garlic ciabatta croutons for Caesar salad!

Lemonyfuckit · 17/08/2023 20:54

We've been weighing up whether to get one. I understand it can save you quite a bit in energy costs after the initial outlay as cooks quicker, not waiting for oven to reach temp, and uses way less energy than heating whole oven.

Silvered · 17/08/2023 20:56

I was very sceptical about the hype but DH talked me into it. We only use our oven for when we have pizza - and that's only because pizza won't fit in the air fryer!!

It's so much quicker.

Lemonyfuckit · 17/08/2023 20:57

I'll add, could the people who love theirs give some ideas of the types of food you find it convenient / good for? - we don't eat much friend food and almost cook from scratch but do use the oven quite a bit for baking/roasting things.

Childhoodisnkthebesttime · 17/08/2023 20:58

I would love a recipe for croutons mine never seem to work!

Hall84 · 17/08/2023 21:00

I have the ninja foodi 14 in 1. Best thing I've ever bought, oven is only on for pizza and a big pasta bake as they don't fit. I do a lot of batch cooking and no problems making 12 portions of various things.

RitzyMcFitzy · 17/08/2023 21:01

Now there's a thread title to draw people in.

Makes a change from 'would you recommend your airfryer? thanks in advance' I suppose.

TheCatterall · 17/08/2023 21:01

I have the Ninja Foodie Max Health Grill and Air Fryer.

bought it last year heavily discounted from Amazon Warehouse as the box was damaged.

We’ve barely used the oven since last summer.

house setup: it’s me and youngest (23) and occasional guests.

food types: lots of baked potatoes for quick (I work from home)
veggie and/or meat tray bakes
pulled pork/grilled chicken/steamed fish
tosties
omelettes
spatch cook chicken
the normal sausages/chips,eggs…
we’ve done some brownies and fruit loaves.

have also dehydrated food but it just took ages. Son loves making his own granola and dried fruit and veg though so let him crack on with that

Only used my ‘normal’ oven for the occasional pizza or cake on the last 12 months.

it heats up within a few minutes, it cooks faster and is cheaper to run.

yes it is massive but I’m basically using my oven as a storage receptacle nowadays so all good.

I’ll be honest. Not read the full blurb. Use half the buttons on it and never used the stabby thermometer.

easy to clean. Tray, flat grill and basket come out easily.

the lid is a bit more difficult but the fan cover comes off and I just give the inside of the lid a good wipe with a hot soapy cloth whilst it’s still warm.

would it do for a big family or parents and two teens. Possibly not. Depends on what you cook.

two adults and maybe a young child. Hell yes.

The processed food argument is not true. It actually encourages me to eat more healthily.

For example I used to have a sandwich or soup for lunch. With the air fryer as I don’t need to preheat and it’s half the time I often bung in a piece of salmon, sweet potatoes, veggies..

Hall84 · 17/08/2023 21:04

Slow cooker: casserole/chilli/bolognese/curry etc
Pressure cooker: joints ie ham for sandwiches/rice
Airfryer: chips/nuggets/roast potatoes
Tendercrisp function: whole chicken
Saute: pasta to boil
There's a 2 rack function for something like steamed fish/veg type thing

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/08/2023 21:05

Have two air fryers, the one that is the basket that is good for chips, roasties, sausages etc and one that is more like the ninja jobbie. Havent used the oven in over a year. Also have a pressure cooker (tefal connect that I got in a product test on MN years ago) that I use at least 4 times a week. We spend SO much less in energy costs when cooking, I did a comparison of just using the oven one week and then the microwave, pressure cooker and air fryers the following week and it was so much less.

TreesandFish · 17/08/2023 21:06

They are amazing. I have not used my oven for 2 years
