Husband unreasonable air fryer demands

Anotherdayanotherairfryer · 17/08/2023 20:41

So. Can anyone solve an argument …
husband is demanding a ‘ ninja foodie flex drawer’ becuase he thinks it will be a good investment. on the other hand I think it’s a waste of money….. I mean we can afford it … but it feels extreme, we have an oven already ! Any one say it’s a life changer … if not I’m not interested !

Depends what you eat already. If you eat a lot of meat, processed food, or fried food then get it as it will definitely save you time and money. If, however, you mostly bake from scratch then it’s not really a decent subsitute.

We don’t eat much meat, hardly any processed food or fried food.
We love our air fryer though

bigredboat · 17/08/2023 21:07

I have the Instant Versazone which is a similar idea to the one you're talking about but is a fair bit cheaper. I cook loads in it - roasted veg, croutons, croissants, cheese on toast, bacon, small batch cookies or muffins etc

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 17/08/2023 21:08

Air fryers are great but you don't need to spend a fortune. Our £39 Asda one is fantastic.

I'll add, could the people who love theirs give some ideas of the types of food you find it convenient / good for? - we don't eat much friend food and almost cook from scratch but do use the oven quite a bit for baking/roasting things.

A air fryer is used in place of the oven. Brilliant for roasting carrots and parsnips and for making cheese scones. It’s not just for convenience foods.

Twillow · 17/08/2023 21:08

Hardly use the oven anymore. Air fryers are quicker, more efficient, less energy cost! Our teenage kids are self-sufficient using it, whereas I'd hate them to come in late at night and use the actual oven...

As above. Had jacket potatoes in 30 min today. Things don't just have to sit loose on the tray, I often roast veg in a dish.

Crowfinch · 17/08/2023 21:11

We've got a tower one or some other generic kind. Does fish and chips for 4. Calamari. Tuna steaks. Salmon. Roast veg. Quorn meatballs.

VeridicalVagabond · 17/08/2023 21:11

Absolutely love mine. My mam finally gave in and let my dad get one recently too, he's been whipping up all sorts of delights in it that I'd never even thought of.

They're well worth it!

Doggymummar · 17/08/2023 21:18

Last time my oven was on was Christmas. Brilliant for two of us. Cook whole Sunday roast in it.

Hufflepods · 17/08/2023 21:19

Its seems incredibly petty and controlling to dictate that your husband can’t buy something like this.

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/08/2023 21:19

4 Jacket potatoes in under 20 minutes.

4 minutes in side in the microwave (bit longer if they are very big), brush with oil, sprinkle with salt, 4 minutes either side on full in the tower air fryer. Take longer in the ninja one but thats ok because that will be cooking whatever we are having with them!

greeen · 17/08/2023 21:20

Love the air fryer, hardly use the oven other than for cakes just because I bake such large amounts and oven works better for that. It's great for cooking from scratch, amazing for frozen foods for sure and also reheating. For example, heating a pastry in the microwave, it goes all limp and soft but the air fryer makes it crispy like it's fresh out the oven. Only watch out would be portion size. If you have a big family then make sure you invest in one big enough to cook the meals you want. We have a family of 6 and have the ninja double air fryer in which generally works pretty well for us.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 17/08/2023 21:21

Ninjas are fantastic. Your oven will become redundant. Indulge him OP!

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/08/2023 21:23

My friend posted recently on FB after being very sceptical of the air fryer "fad" she asked if you have to sign a pledge to evangalise about them when you buy one!

Then she bought one and has had the decency to admit that she was wrong and she too has been converted to the Church of the Air Fryer!

ThatsALampost · 17/08/2023 21:23

We have the ninja foodie max .

I’ve owned an airfryer for 13 years , always the drawer ones. They’ve only reached peaked popularity now, but I’ve given up the drawer versions in favour of the foodi max last year , and it is so much easier to clean and maintain.

Wexone · 17/08/2023 21:25

I haven't got one. am the only one I gather from this post that doesn't. I dint see the point. I have two ovens that work perfectly well and I use regularly. I live across the road from a chipper so havnt cooked chips for years. I.also hate clutter on my counter. if wasn't in a rented house would have an electric tap over a kettle. toaster is stored away too. so I am with you on this one

googledidnthelp · 17/08/2023 21:31

Just bought a ninja speedie and love it!

This isn’t true at all 😂 I don’t eat processed food and make everything from scratch (I’m a chef!) and use it for pretty much everything - baked fish, quick pasta, buffalo wings, baked burrata, it makes the best garlic ciabatta croutons for Caesar salad!

You can bake burrata? Wow - I have to try that. I don’t have an air fryer, so I presume the oven would work? Please can you give instructions?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/08/2023 21:34

We've got a Ninja and it's a complete waste of money and I regret buying it. Our kitchen is too small to have it out all the time and the stupid thing is too heavy to lug in and out of the cupboard each time so it never gets used. I think it'll be going to the dump next time DH goes.

jannier · 17/08/2023 21:35

Use it more than the microwave and for everything that goes in an oven. So much quicker do you have time to waste?

Have you got money to burn?!!

It will get snapped up on Marketplace! Fuck, I will take it off your hands if you are chucking it out!

Darkacademic · 17/08/2023 21:37

I was sadly disappointed by this thread. I was hoping for titillating tales some bizarre kink where the OPs husband was demanding staged nude photos with an air fryer or sex 25 times an evening with the air fryer in the bedroom and to get able to say no, OP, you are NOT being unreasonable, tell him just to cook his chips in it like everyone else. Oh well…

boboshmobo · 17/08/2023 21:37

I literally never use the oven anymore . It's brilliant

Just sell it on, you dramatic ninny.

Beaverbridge · 17/08/2023 21:39

I was dubious about must admit but my daughter was given one and it's really amazing. Not had a bad thing yet. Cooks so quickly.
