Husband unreasonable air fryer demands

So. Can anyone solve an argument …
husband is demanding a ‘ ninja foodie flex drawer’ becuase he thinks it will be a good investment. on the other hand I think it’s a waste of money….. I mean we can afford it … but it feels extreme, we have an oven already ! Any one say it’s a life changer … if not I’m not interested !

Depends what you eat already. If you eat a lot of meat, processed food, or fried food then get it as it will definitely save you time and money. If, however, you mostly bake from scratch then it’s not really a decent subsitute.

I bake my bread in my ninja dual

Yes to air fryer-NO to Ninga one- its very over priced& over-hyped in my opinion! There are more 'double-drawer' types out there, at much lower prices (Lakeland have 1 on offer this weekend, gauranteed 3 yrs) and theres others out there which do a great job.Even non doubles that cook roast grill sauté fry etc do rice pasta everything. And they do save on power.

Dh bought the ninja foodie max, I think it is. It's a pain in the arse. Takes up the only decent prep area in the kitchen. We're a family of 6, cannot cook for 6 in it unless it's soup etc so not saving time or effort at all. I burn myself in the fecker everytime, granted I do have a disability related to my hands and I do tend to burn them on the oven but certainly not every time.

Same here, I know I’m in the minority, but we have the same issues, it does cook things really well and crisp them up nicely but it’s just not got the capacity to cook enough for more than 2 people at a time (normal people, not tiny mumsnet portions), and I’m also regularly burning myself on it. Ours also functions as a slow cooker/pressure cooker but we already have those anyway.

Had one scince they first came out.. had my oven professionally cleaned and it's still like that because l haven't used it. Between the air fryer/ slow cooker and steamer... all meals are sorted and easy.. my daughters say the same with their kids.

PissOffJeffrey · 21/08/2023 17:21

I have a dual drawer air fryer - not a Ninja as that was out of my price range.

I absolutely love it. I've cooked a whole roast chicken in one drawer whilst doing roast potatoes in the other. The chicken came out beautifully moist & the roasties beautifully crispy.

1mabon · 21/08/2023 20:37

I live alone and have a small one, it's great, wouldn't be without it and it saves money.

Inspiredpumpkin2 · 21/08/2023 22:24

Despite the name it’s not about frying. It’s just a smaller more economical oven. Anything you can cook in the oven you can cook in the air fryer

Dontworkmondays · 22/08/2023 00:39

I returned ours after a trialling it for a month. I found out diet became worse, it took up too much space and was just overall not all that.
I could feel it going the same way as a breville sandwich toaster.

Why would your diet become worse when it cooks the same things as an oven but quicker?

I think especially with the Ninja foodie people don't learn how to use them properly so just end up using them to cook chips and chicken nuggets.

They really are flexible and my 9 in 1 does so much stuff, most of which you can't do in an oven.

GarlicGrace · 22/08/2023 14:46

Yes, the product infographics / adverts are all about chicken nuggets, burgers and chips. Which has never made me think an air fryer would be right for me!

Even now, it's really hard to find out what each one can handle. The occasional Amazon reviewer will share that they cooked "a chicken" or a "Sunday roast" - well, what size chicken or roast, and could you roast your spuds at the same time?? Argh.

Bog standard chicken in the Co-op. Could probably have fitted two of them in one drawer if we'd needed to (which would be around 3kg). Enough spuds for four plates piled high in the other (about 500g, a third of a bag). Set the Sync Button so they were ready at the same time.

Largest Ninja Duo - 9.5l capacity.

GarlicGrace · 22/08/2023 22:02

Really informative, @NeverDropYourMooncup, thank you!

They're always selling for peanuts on John Pye Auctions.

I don't want people coming to my house, or faffing around deciding whether they want it or not. I worry that if it goes wrong (or they break it) they'll be knocking at the door! I've never sold on market place, only eBay, and that's bad enough!

Pathetic. You'll throw something expensive and valuable in the tip rather than offer it to someone who may really need and appreciate it because you are scared of people coming to your house? Utterly pathetic.

GarlicGrace · 23/08/2023 23:04

I agree, it makes little sense to throw a working appliance away. If you don't want to sell it or give it to charity, just leave it somewhere that people will see it!

Most of my unwanted things leave my care this way 🙂

Where did I say I'm scared of someone coming to my house? I don't want people coming to my house and wasting my time. It would be a case of either have it or don't and don't come back to me about it later on.

If you'd read any of my other posts (although I suspect that would be too much for you) you would see that our local recycling centre has a shop and will sell any decent, working items for charity. Is that OK with you?

Jesus Christ 🙄

I did actually think of leaving it outside and saying free to whoever wants it but as it's constantly pissing with rain I don't think I'd get many takers!

wrap it up in a clear plastic bag and put a sign on it saying it's in working order and is free to whoever wants it.

it will be snapped up in .000005 seconds.

That's a good idea. I'll wait until we get a slightly drier day though as today is horrible!

One question, I presume they can't hold me responsible if anything goes wrong with it? That's my biggest worry as someone did that to me on eBay and I haven't sold anything electrical since.

First things first though, I need DH to find it in the garage and then hope it hasn't got damp! All this angst may be for nothing if it doesn't work!

GarlicGrace · 24/08/2023 10:02

Nope 🙂 You're not selling it, and are not required to give any guarantees. I do wrap mine in clear plastic, with a visible note that says something like "AIR FRYER. WORKS. FREE IF YOU WANT IT." The last thing I put out was a very basic sewing machine, so I added the info that it only sews straight lines. I want takers to be happy, not disappointed!

I should think an air fryer will be gone before you've turned your back. Hope your weather clears up soon!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/08/2023 10:35

Thanks @GarlicGrace. I just don't want anyone to have any comeback. Personally if I had something for free and it stopped working I wouldn't bother but I know some people are arseholes!
