To ask when was the last time you laughed...

Usernamechanged2 · 17/08/2023 13:32

I actually can't remember I think it was a year or 2 ago.
The reason I ask is because I seen my friend & her partner, they have both had time off annual leave and my friend said they have had a laugh together this week.
It just got me thinking. I don't really laugh with my partner.

To me this is one of the most important things. My DH, my DCs and my colleagues all make me laugh regularly. Today I laughed so hard I cried at a terrible joke my DS made.

GalileoHumpkins · 17/08/2023 16:12

I don't know if its normal but I've never had a laugh my (long term) partner

I don't think that's normal at all, what do you do together that there's no laughter?

Xrays · 17/08/2023 16:15

I laugh at stuff on Instagram a lot. Just funny silly animals or people doing stupid stuff. Sometimes something really tickles me and I laugh for ages, proper belly laugh. But oddly enough that’s the only time I really do that. My family / Tv / dh etc nope. Odd.

I laugh hysterically all the time at work, because I work with such a load of nutters, and our office banter is the best, my adult children have me in stitches too, and when I'm not moaning at my dh we also have a giggle, however I am very aware that sometimes life can be very cruel, and families have to deal with such awful losses and situations that there may seem to be no reason to find joy and laughter in life, and for that I send a massive hug to anyone struggling with life right now, and hope you find true reasons to smile and laugh again.

Tooty...I'm actually crying...thank you for saying such a kind thing

JanieEyre · 17/08/2023 16:30

Earlier today. I was re-listening to the Ipswich episode of Cabin Pressure after a long gap, and it's still incredibly funny.

MrsCarson · 17/08/2023 16:44

Lunch out today with my mother and Dd. We had a really good laugh about all sorts.
I'm sorry you aren't feeling the light hearted side of life OP.

TheBrightestStarInTheSky · 17/08/2023 16:45

I had a good laugh today with my colleagues.

I'm exactly the same way

ToughFuss · 17/08/2023 16:48

That’s so sad, I’m sorry.

About two minutes ago, at my toddler son. He’s a funny little soul and we have a lot of fun. Otherwise though, talking to a cashier earlier, chasing my daft dogs around earlier, with my husband this morning.. I laugh a lot, from a little chuckle to a proper belly laugh.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 17/08/2023 16:51

A few mins ago. I'm stuck being a mattress while baby contact naps. I think giggles are around the corner as baby has been sleep giggling.

Leahisleaving · 17/08/2023 16:51

I want to laugh more. That sounds like an odd thing to say but I remember I used to be really silly with my friends and would enjoy making them laugh. My family always however tell me I take things too seriously. And now I think about it I don't know when DH and me last laughed. He is quite a serious person but makes very witty jokes that I find funny. I am taking this thread as a sign to be more light hearted :)

GoodChat · 17/08/2023 16:53

I don't know if its normal but I've never had a laugh my (long term) partner.

It's not. It sounds really lonely.

AuntieMarys · 17/08/2023 16:53

Dh and I laugh every day

usernother · 17/08/2023 16:54

Really OP?? Don't you laugh whilst watch TV or listening to stuff. I laugh every day, and I love it when I get the chance to have a crying with laughing and can't stop. This happens every few months with friends or with my husband. Sometimes I have a bloody good laugh just remembering stupid things that have happened in the past.

Bbq1 · 17/08/2023 17:01

All tfe time with dh and teen dstoi, sometimes all 3 of us together!

Bbq1 · 17/08/2023 17:02

I'm 50

Isis1981uk · 17/08/2023 17:02

About an hour ago, but multiple times through the day. My partner and I have so much fun together and always make each other laugh. I didn't have that at all with my ex husband, we barely had anything to talk about let alone laugh at, so I know exactly how you feel.

WhateverMate · 17/08/2023 17:05

KinooOrKinog · 17/08/2023 13:47

Also, everyone who belly laughs on a regular basis, I'd be interested to know how old you are?

54 but I think it's far more to do with personality than age.

Some people are just way more serious than others, even children are different to each other in that way too.

My Dad is in his early 90s and he belly laughs all the time, then again we're Irish and we're known for our strong sense of humour.

I wish I could laugh. I must be miserable, or depressed.
I only really have one friend but not got together for a while, this is the friend I bumped into who was having a laugh with her partner. It seemed alien to me.
Which is why I posted thread, I don't know if its normal but I've never had a laugh my (long term) partner.

Is it because you don't find things he says funny or you don't find anything funny

StampOnTheGround · 17/08/2023 17:25

Every day.

Usernamechanged2 · 17/08/2023 17:26

He doesn't really say much tbf @Cakesandbabes I do catch him laughing at podcasts sometimes but there not what I watch.

I can relate @Isis1981uk

I can't remember the last time I properly laughed. I smile lots now and things make me feel lighter but turning to my DH and realising he'd suffered a massive, life changing stroke and then nursing him until his death (pretty much alone because it was covid times) has left its mark. I used to laugh a lot but life feels very different now to how it felt back before the stroke.

YouJustDoYou · 17/08/2023 17:34

I'm so.....envious. All these people, saying they laugh so often. It's been years for me. YEARS. I wish I was you.

GalileoHumpkins · 17/08/2023 17:46

I highly recommend My Dad Wrote a Porno to anyone that needs a good laugh.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 17/08/2023 17:50

I laugh a lot. Even in difficult times- I think it's a way of coping, a kind of dark humour type of thing. I have lost my sense of humour, when I was ill for months and also when I was struggling mentally, just didn't find the same things funny or took things too personally.

In answer to the question, I proper laughed, like out of control a bit, on Tuesday, I chuckle throughout the day at what my teens say (they are both witty and funny) and at things that go wrong, which is often in my case.
