To ask when was the last time you laughed...

Usernamechanged2 · 17/08/2023 13:32

I actually can't remember I think it was a year or 2 ago.
The reason I ask is because I seen my friend & her partner, they have both had time off annual leave and my friend said they have had a laugh together this week.
It just got me thinking. I don't really laugh with my partner.

We laugh together all the time, usually at the most ridiculous things. I couldn't be with someone I didn't have a laugh with.

Have you genuinely not laughed at anything for two years? Something on tv, a meme, something you've read, talking to a friend? Nothing?!

KinooOrKinog · 17/08/2023 13:47

Also, everyone who belly laughs on a regular basis, I'd be interested to know how old you are?

HorsePlatitudes · 17/08/2023 13:48

My family and I are always laughing. My husband is really funny. This is a shame guys!

Stressfordays · 17/08/2023 13:52

Some of these replies are really sad to see. I laugh every single day. I'm single so no partner but I laugh with my kids, colleagues, patients, friends, at the tv/radio, at my pets. I couldn't imagine going a day without a giggle. Even on my darkest days, I can usually laugh at something, even if it is how stupid I have been. I recall laughing the day my Dad died, finding humour in memories.

Cowlover89 · 17/08/2023 13:52

I laughed this morning with my toddler. He's a funny onion.

Usernamechanged2 · 17/08/2023 13:53

No I haven't I can't remember anything making me laugh, the last time it was with my sisters & their partners. It was proper belly laugh and made me happy for days.
But not laughed since.
I have never laughed like that with partner. And speaking to my friends today was an eye opener I think. As usually I just see my friend whilst her partner is at work.
Sometimes I do laugh with my dc, but never with my oh.

Age really doesn't matter though? I make my 80-90odd year old patients laugh every single shift. A quick witted comment, a silly dance or walk. You can laugh at any age.

My DP and I are both very funny, problem is we don’t have the same sense of humour (mine is more complex and clever, obvs), so we have gentle laughs sometimes but nothing that’d make my sides hurt.

I’m sorry you haven’t laughed OP. Try if you can to cultivate a bit of a childish sense of fun in your head. Even being able to inwardly laugh at life can keep you sane in hard times, I have found.

That's what I'm hoping my therapy will lead me to.
I try to be positive, but there are days when I miss my son so much it physically hurts, and some days are stronger than others.
Maybe one day I will learn to laugh again.

I hope you find your laugh again.

CheerfulYank · 17/08/2023 13:56

I laugh every day. Deep laughing with DH though? Not much. It’s just not him 🤷‍♀️

BarrelOfOtters · 17/08/2023 13:56

Had a proper belly laugh with my Mother in Law last week. And a good laugh with a friend a few days ago, partner and I get on very well - but rarely have a good belly laugh.

During a reather bleak period about 5 years ago - there was oddly quite a lot of laughing as it seemed the only way to get through it - quite dark humour thought.

Came on to say the exact same thing.....(although when I suffered from untreated depression I stopped laughing.......)
Now I laugh all the time & I love it when I laugh hysterically at something that isn't really that funny (normally at the end of a night shift!!)

Love and laughter make for a happy life Flowers

We were pretty late to The Detectorists and have been binge watching it from start to finish. There’s a scene with home made lemonade in the first series that I laughed so hard at I thought I was going to hyperventilate.

Draconis · 17/08/2023 14:00

My dh is a miserable arse mostly but I can laugh with him once a fortnight probably.
My dc, I laugh a lot with.
I had a laugh with my sister on a call yesterday and laughed with my friends over text messages this morning.
I laughed a few times this week reading a Bill Bryson book and laughed properly at a thread on mumsnet about mistakes in emails and messages.

I didn't say you couldn't. I just asked how old people were.

Close to 50.

TheMousePipes · 17/08/2023 14:02

There’s a lot of laughter in this house. I’m 45, dh is 53.

When listening to "I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue" with DH.

Last night, watching some quiz show, Who was monarch when Blair became Prime Minister? Victoria!

BIossomtoes · 17/08/2023 14:04

I laughed this morning. Laughter is the glue that holds our marriage together.

MissFancyDay · 17/08/2023 14:07

I laugh every day, I'm 65, sometimes with DH. We have a slightly different sense of humour though. He is quite long winded and often tells me things he thinks are funny and when he's finished I'm just staring at him stoney faced .

LoverofGreen · 17/08/2023 14:43

I laugh with my husband every day, joint laughter when watching tv happens a lot.

as to belly laughs I’m early 60s and laughed so much I cried twice in last month.

I made someone belly laugh unintentionally 😂the other day, they sent me a voice message laughing so much about a message I’d sent them, really made me laugh myself !

GetOurraMeWay · 17/08/2023 14:51

Yesterday at work. My team are ace 😁😁

GetOurraMeWay · 17/08/2023 14:54

I'm 48. I'm also hilarious if I do say so myself 😁😁 my kids don't agree however as I am so embarrassing 😳 😂😂

Clefable · 17/08/2023 15:03

I laugh every day multiple times with my kids and husband and my friends and other family. Not like hysterics, shaking with laughter, tears in eyes but just normal laughter because something is funny or someone says something funny or because it's infectious laughter from the kids laughing.
