To consider getting a Brazilian wax

Never had one before as it seemed like a lot of trouble and wasn’t something I particularly felt the need for, I usually just shave and trim. Previous bfs have seemed to be fine with that (and of course I believe it’s up to me what I want to do anyway).

For some reason, no idea why, I’ve been recently feeling it’s something I might like to do. Not currently in a relationship so it’s not because of that, I just fancy being hair-free. Am I insane? Will it be expensive and incredibly painful? What are people’s experiences?

Don't bother, it's painful and you look like a turkey on Christmas morning down there.

I will repeat what I've already said....
Not if you use a decent salon

I had a groin abscess a few years back. Had to go to hospital to have it drained, Dr said she wouldn’t use anaesthetic as it wouldn’t work up there. Most painful experience ever. Dr said you can scream and swear if you like and I did. Then had to go to GP daily or nurse to house at weekend for three weeks for the wound to be repacked and dressed. GP said that groin abscesses are really common these days and I couldn’t help wondering if that is because of all the hair removing.

StarlightLady · 18/08/2023 09:16

Heres a thought.

Those who want a full Hollywood wax; go for it!

Those who shave; go for it.

Those who use hair removal cream; go for it.

Those who opt to sport a full bush; go for it.

Whatever you choose, none of these things make you any more or any less a woman or any more or any less a feminist.

Be warned that you might not be able to hold in wind any longer after having it done.

@StarlightLady. Yep. Do whatever you want. But don't pretend it's not influenced by porn.

HOLLYWOOD is what you want, the Brazilian still leaves hair.
some places are really awkward about doing this while some beauticians are great, go by recommendation.

StarlightLady · 18/08/2023 10:01

@CurlewKate - I am in my 40s and been “all off” since l was 15. As a 15 year old girl brought up in France l was not influenced by porn, l was influenced by stray hairs poking out of my swimsuit and my knickers.

l’ve had men ask me to grow it over the years; refused - it is not me!

l assume you do not remove leg or underarm hair? If that is the case, fine. Body hair is body hair. Choices are choices and go beyond a porn watching fraternity.

I don't know where your bottom hole is but mine is round the back and removing all my pubic hair from the front and underneath has no bearing on my bottom or it's ability to pass wind.

I agree, absolutely nothing to do with porn.

I started removing hair as a teenager because I used to ride my ponies in the summer wearing short shorts or bikini bottoms and I was always doing cartwheels and larking about climbing trees etc.

All some women might be influenced by seeing porn actresses but when I was a teenager in the 70s, I hadn't heard of porn and looking back as an adult, that area was about having a big bush!

I remember as a teenager we used to wear a sanitary belt with a huge sanitary pad with loops to attach the belt. I didn't like seeing or feeling the blood on my pubic hair, it felt horrible.

Once I got into the hang of removing all the hair it all felt so much cleaner.

🤣🤣🤣 ahhhhh I wondered why my arse was like letting go of a blown up balloon for the last 15 years. It's down to no hair, stupid me!

TwoShades1 · 18/08/2023 10:52

Lots of great advice here. Just want to add for lots of people it’s nothing to do with porn or even sex. Trying using pads with a heavy period with clots with a lot of pubic hair. Makes it very difficult to clean yourself up when changing pads. At least with bare skin you can wipe/dry yourself thoroughly.

Porn 😂I’ve never watched porn and get all mine off! Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!

Ive had a full wax for 10 years. I’d never go back, confirmed during covid when I couldn’t get it done. £30 every 5 weeks. It hurts, not unbearable and it’s 100% worth it!!!

Porn affects men's preferences, is what Trish meant. And yes, she's right. Not to say women can't also like it but there's no denying that if not for men and porn, it plenty wouldn't.

If the fashion was for bushes, how many would still be waxing everything off completely, I wonder

Dolores87 · 18/08/2023 10:55

To highjack a bit does waxing stop ingrown hairs or would that still be a problem.

I have been thinking about this for this reason alone but dont want to deal with the pain (very low pain threshold) if it wont help.

Verv · 18/08/2023 11:07

If you want to do it, go for it.
I used to get hollywoods when I worked next door to a waxing salon. They were great and not painful.
The only thing I would say is if you have PMT, take a brufen or paracetamol around 30 mins beforehand as you tend to be a bit more sensitive to pain when due on which can make waxing nip more than it normally would.

As an aside, I am gay, have no interest in men, or porn, and have been all off since I started growing pubic hair in my teens. It's a sensory thing for me.

Men set beauty standards for women

Lesbians don't live in a vacuum where they aren't affected by wider societal expectations...

Bananananananananana · 18/08/2023 11:10

Some women do just prefer it though. I trim because a super long bush gets itchy.

Porn and men 100% play a large role

Do you use your bum hairs to tie the hole shut?

Cosyblankets · 18/08/2023 11:16

I must be married to a different species of man. He's very much the you do what you like it's your body species of man. He would laugh at the thought that men set beauty standards for women!

StarlightLady · 18/08/2023 11:16

@dolores87 To say it would stop ingrown hairs would be overstating things. It does minimise them though. It’s slight discomfort as opposed to pain and it becomes less as you get used to it. Much better than the dentist!

As for the porn thing, l know lesbians who sport a Hollywood.

CurlewKate · 18/08/2023 11:18

It’s largely women who uphold these standards though. We don’t have to.
