DH winds my window up!

It’s the only bit of control I have in the passenger side of the car when I’m not driving; it’s MY window. He pushes my button as well as his, thus forcing me to relinquish control of said window. It gives me the absolute rage. Wind your own window up but don’t snatch mine!

AIBU?

(Anyone else’s DH do this?)

To some extent I think the person who is driving gets the control.
Plus if one window is open and the others shut just you get that awful juddering sound.

I would also find it annoying though.

AllAnusMorisette · 11/08/2023 10:26

Maybe he is putting the Aircon on? But it would wind me up if he just did it without saying anything

Middlelanehogger · 11/08/2023 10:29

Driver gets veto sorry. You can drive if you want to control the windows

Boomboom22 · 11/08/2023 10:29

In cars really the windows need to be equally open once driving at any speed so you can't just do whatever you want with your window. Driver controls all windows.

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 11/08/2023 10:29

Sneakily turn his side of heating up or down depending on how you want him to feel . 😝

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/08/2023 10:31

I think you have to have some rights as a passenger. I hate it when, for example, taxi drivers don’t give you control of the window.

That said, I’m a hypocrite as I make my children (older) have the passenger window at least a bit open as I need a “through breeze” when I’m driving, unless on the motorway. We don’t have air con

CameronCook · 11/08/2023 10:34

In our family, driver always trumps everyone on everything. If they are driving they need to concentrate and need to be comfortable to do so. Oh and no imbalance of power - we are a family of six drivers as all the kids can drive, so whoever offers to drive chooses the temperature, music and quantity and frequency of stops.

Rudolphthefrog · 11/08/2023 10:34

I find the noise and air movement from open car windows very annoying and distracting so if I’m driving then they’re all closed. Driver has power of veto I’m afraid, over windows, music, heating etc.

We have air conditioning so there’s no reason at all for them to be open anyway except briefly for taking a ticket at a barrier or paying a toll.

yogasaurus · 11/08/2023 10:37

You can’t have one car window open, it causes an almighty racket. Driver controls. If you don’t like it, you drive.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/08/2023 10:38

Just ask him not to?

Peachespeachesohpeaches · 11/08/2023 10:40

I can't stand the noise it makes when the window is open so I always put them back up when I'm driving. Same with hearing/air con, it's all my choice.

Passenger can be the DJ if they ask nicely and have decent taste in tunes.

VeridicalVagabond · 11/08/2023 10:41

Nope, driver controls windows and gets veto unless someone is travel sick and needs it open. I hate it when I close mine and someone else's is open and it goes "thump thump thump", it's infuriating.

All open or all closed and driver gets final say.

WisherWood · 11/08/2023 10:44

My DP does this if he's putting the aircon on or we're reaching a stretch of road which is faster. It doesn't bother me but then he's generally very respectful of me, so it's not like it's a symptom of anything else.

Jellycats4life · 11/08/2023 10:44

Mine always has the window wipers on higher than they need to be. You know when it’s lightly raining and intermittent wipes is sufficient? He has them on full. When it’s raining a bit more and you should have them on full? He has them on turbo. I have to sit there biting my tongue.

PissOffJeffrey · 11/08/2023 10:59

Driver gets to choose, sorry OP.

I absolutely hate the noise & the way the car feels different to drive with windows open. When you drive it's your call.

TomatoSandwiches · 11/08/2023 11:05

Like fuck does the driver control my window, if they pulled that they'd have to deal with me vomiting everywhere.

YANBU.

Laurama91 · 11/08/2023 11:08

I dont like the noise open windows make when I'm driving 30+ so if I'm driving windows are closed.

ADHDDDDDDDBOOM · 11/08/2023 11:08

I do this!
😂

Hufflepods · 11/08/2023 11:10

No having the window down impacts how the car feels and drives so it isn't something every individual passenger should have full control over.

Do you drive OP?

MonumentalLentil · 11/08/2023 11:11

Put his heated seat on full when he isn't looking.

SemperIdem · 11/08/2023 11:11

As others have mentioned, the noise having one window open, especially on a faster road is awful and can be very distracting to a driver.

YABU

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/08/2023 11:13

Driver gets overall say on the front of the car as they need to be able to concentrate.

If it bothers you that much sit in the back (less noticeable unless at a high speed) or drive yourself.

Shoxfordian · 11/08/2023 11:14

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable but then I choose the music as the passenger and when we stop for a loo break as well

Harrypewter · 11/08/2023 11:14

Surely you can control your own window. Why should the driver have control over your comfort level.
The driver should be concerned with driving.

DappledThings · 11/08/2023 11:15

Cant stand any car windows open at any speed over about 20mph. Makes my ears hurt. So YABU as far as I'm concerned. Especially if I'm the driver. It's your window but it affects everyone in the car.
