DH winds my window up!

It’s the only bit of control I have in the passenger side of the car when I’m not driving; it’s MY window. He pushes my button as well as his, thus forcing me to relinquish control of said window. It gives me the absolute rage. Wind your own window up but don’t snatch mine!

AIBU?

(Anyone else’s DH do this?)

Surely you can control your own window. Why should the driver have control over your comfort level.
The driver should be concerned with driving.

Because having the window down is about much more than comfort level, it changes the aerodynamics of the car which alters the feel of the car when driving and makes it more difficult.

ScandiCushion · 11/08/2023 11:20

Shocked at all these messages saying driver has full control of all windows!

In my family we all control our own windows. Never dreamed it could be any other way!

If you're travelling in a car as a passenger and you need some fresh air, you open your window.

I'm a driver and would never dream of controlling others' windows!

Then it’s horrible for the people in the back

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 11/08/2023 11:42

Yep, driver gets control of the windows in our car too.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/08/2023 11:49

I hate it when my mum has the windows open in my car. It stops the air con working.

Sorry I don't agree. Motorway driving maybe. General driving not really.
The car isn't going to miraculously veer off the road because a passenger wound the window down.
That'd be down to the driver.

WaltzingWaters · 11/08/2023 11:52

Boomboom22 · 11/08/2023 10:29

In cars really the windows need to be equally open once driving at any speed so you can't just do whatever you want with your window. Driver controls all windows.

This. Can be really off-putting sometimes. I think driver gets the say on this.

I sometimes close them myself when driving as it’s so distracting and even messes with my ears if it’s really bad.

Ladyj84 · 11/08/2023 11:54

Sorry but being a driver and knowing how any of the windows all make different wind noises and other distractions then drivers choice

DaaamnYoullDo · 11/08/2023 11:55

All windows get put up when I'm driving over 40mph ish. Literally if your window being open is making me uncomfortable or distracted while I drive then I'm putting it up.
And as a passenger I always ask the driver if I can put the window down. Drivers comfort trumps passenger comfort.

Yep this. 100%

I am concerned about my driving. Which is why I put the window up if the noise from it becomes distracting.

That awful noise from one open window actually hurts my ears, so it's to everyone's interest that I put it up.

The comfort of the driver is paramount in the car. I hate it when passengers turn up the radio/heating/open windows without a thought about how that affects me and my ability to concentrate.

DaisyAndDonaldDuck · 11/08/2023 12:10

YABU. Why do you need any control? Confused

Oh please can I be a passenger in your little car please? I won’t have any control of the windows, of the direction I vomit in because I’ve not been allowed fresh air.

Glad my DH isn’t as controlling with the windows as the control freaks on this post.

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 11/08/2023 12:18

If driver wants the passenger window up, either totally or partially, then they should ask the passenger to do it rather than take control. It's about discussion and compromise.

I still have wind up windows in the back so i would have to ask, I expect to give the front passenger the same courtesy.

RoseBucket · 11/08/2023 12:19

Windows up when I’m driving past 30, it gives me helicopter ears, the sound of helicopter blades turning and is very irritating.

WilkinsonM · 11/08/2023 12:20

Driver's choice! Driver needs to not be distracted and if the breeze is too much it can distract. Also when going at speed the car can turn into a {something science my DP explained that I have forgotten the name of} which causes the air to vibrate in the vehicle and make your ears feel weird.

PurpleWhirple · 11/08/2023 12:22

Middlelanehogger · 11/08/2023 10:29

Driver gets veto sorry. You can drive if you want to control the windows

What is this nonsense?

You just sound like a moron when you “disagree” with facts. Even a moderate speeds the air coming through open windows affects how the car drives. It’s not an opinion.

DRS1970 · 11/08/2023 12:24

Pleased this is your only worry in the world...

JudgeJ · 11/08/2023 12:24

TeenDivided · 11/08/2023 10:25

To some extent I think the person who is driving gets the control.
Plus if one window is open and the others shut just you get that awful juddering sound.

I would also find it annoying though.

I thought it was my ears that are the problem, I get terrible thudding if one window is open.

Don’t worry, I wouldn’t have you as a passenger 😂

TeaKitten · 11/08/2023 12:28

Can’t believe now heated this thread is with name calling too, and it’s about car window buttons 😂 my 8 and 6 year old have this exact argument, along with ‘stop looking out of my window’ ‘you looked out of mine first’

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/08/2023 12:31

I'd only ever had boyfriends that didn't mind one way or the other that I liked resting my arm on the frame so I could feel the air blowing through my fingers (and singing). It seemed fair enough if I was asked to close the window for motorway driving and to crack it open when it was raining to avoid the windows steaming up.

Then I met somebody who was absolutely raging at the idea he wasn't in control of everybody's comfort in the vehicle - he decided if the windows were open, by how much, the volume of the stereo (ear bleedingly loud) and went absolutely ballistic if somebody wanted to read or even look down. Twat.

user78262102928 · 11/08/2023 12:40

Totally up to the driver, but it would be common courtesy for the driver to say “I’m closing the window - would you like the air on on?”

Interestingly I was having a discussion earlier in the week about how in a few years time cars might not have adjustable windows. The aerodynamics are so adversely effected that it is more economical to have the aircon on than to have the increased drag from an open window.
