"If they don't like barges they should fuck off back to France". 30p Lee Anderson of course, not the BNP. Not the National Front or whatever their current name is. The Chairman of the Conservative Party. Supporters must be so proud. What a statesman. So Churchillian.

For those that are worried about the cost of living genuinely why would they vote for Labour where they are guaranteed higher taxes and bills??

At least the conservatives are likely to slash them as soon as possible.

And probably more hair brained schemes like fuckingfuming suggested like increasing the living standards everywhere in the world.

It beggars belief.

You think taxes would rise?

UK tax burden is highest on record

Wages are rising, which is normally a good thing, but our tax bills are swelling too like never before. Alice Guy explains why and how taxes today compare to during post-war Britain.

Btw ex Tory strategist reported today as saying "if they don't manage to get control of numbers (on small boats and stubbornly high inflation) then I think the Labour Party is going to be fine just saying "These guys don't know what the fuck they are doing. We're going to do all the same shit, we are just going to do it properly."

Literally that. I’ve never believe there’s any great difference between the two parties aside of the fact that labour will do it with a bit more compassion.

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 11:18

Yes I 100% believe taxes will be increased further with a Labour government.

AIBot · 09/08/2023 11:18

It would be far more sensible to spend it on fast tracking processing and integrating successful applicants quickly so they can start working and paying taxes.

This. And we also aren’t paying bed and board for years for people who ultimately don’t qualify for refugee status.

CloudyMcCloud · 09/08/2023 11:19

So far Labour supporters have said it’s just waffle, there’s no policy yet, and ‘I don’t really support them’

It’s not looking good if the most staunch Labour voters can see the weakness of what was said today when faced with climate change.

Whether people will vote for them knowing that is up to them, but it’s going to get worse as climate change ramps up. I don’t think anyone here is trying to deny that.. unless I’ve missed a climate change denier

@Remembermynamealways are you aware that the current government has raised taxes to their highest levels in 70 years? Is that good evidence that they are likely to slash them?

In the interests of factual accuracy I would like to point out that in January 2022 Labour supported a motion that would have reduced everyone's fuel bills, whilst the conservatives voted against it.

Which party was trying to do something about the cost of living?

I think you need to do a bit more googling on mass displacement too tbh.

Especially around topics like the potential global impacts on food systems and supply chains or on how the UK population won't be immune to being displaced themselves.

Probably not a great idea to pull up the drawbridge and go full on isolationist when it might be you that needs a new home in future.

Where have I claimed we will be immune to ‘food systems and supply chains’ issues?

As for displacement other countries keeping us out and us letting people in isn’t going to do much

But those people need houses, doctors, old age care, etc etc. We simply do not have the infrastructure or the housing stock. It’s all well and good having a green light open door policy on immigration but where the f* are you actually going to put everyone?????

You also believe that Labour does and doesn't have a policy on immigration.

I understand from the Minister who was on the media round this morning this is policy since delays in processing act as a deterrent to migrants, which is why we have seen an increase in migrants as the delays have increased.

Yes I 100% believe taxes will be increased further with a Labour government.

Yet recent history provides no evidence. Look at the chart on the link I gave you.

The tax burden has been steadily rising since 2012 when George Osborne was chancellor. Then, the UK’s tax burden was 32.8%. That crept up to 33.1% in 2019, but leapt to 34.1% in 2020, to 36.8% by 2022, and is projected to hit 37.7% by 2026, according to latest Office for Budget Responsibility forecasts.

At risk of repeating myself, but in the interests of trying to keep some facts in the thread, there are by government estimates 700,000 empty homes in the UK, taking into account some other empty properties other estimates suggest the number is over a million.

In the same way Labour intend to block the new policy to source our own oil and energy from the North Sea and bring down bills and the increase energy security? But no Labour are indebted to just stop oil, so we will be paying much more in the future sadly, and we will be less secure thanks too the donut that accepted all of the Labour donations with strings attached from Dale.

Are higher taxes a bad thing?
if schools are well staffed
hospitals well staffed
police funding increased

all of that creates jobs, which creates taxes, it increases wealth people are spending which increases jobs.

spent well, high taxes are not necessarily a bad thing.

They are peoples second homes!!! You can’t just steal them and hand them over to migrants!

On the subject of donations to political parties are you comfortable with the donations and position in the Tory party from a former Eygptian minister under Mubarak?

Has any party suggested that North Sea oil and gas be exclusively used in the UK and sold at lower prices than the wholesale energy markets?

Renewable sources of energy such as wind are cheaper now than oil and gas, so to bring down bills that is what one should be investing in.
