"If they don't like barges they should fuck off back to France". 30p Lee Anderson of course, not the BNP. Not the National Front or whatever their current name is. The Chairman of the Conservative Party. Supporters must be so proud. What a statesman. So Churchillian.

I know you do. I know you very much want Labour to win.

PleSe find anywhere on MN where I have said I'll vote Labour?

Clue - you can't.

You will find plenty of posts where I've said I'm a centric swing voter who always votes dependent on manifestos - which haven't yet been published for the next GE as it's not been called.

Wanting decency from a government doesn't make you a hard core Labour supporter. In fact I didn't vote for them before because I couldn't stand JC being so far left either.

He did go on to claim that they are trying to reduce the backlog, which by his own logic would encourage more arrivals.

He is essentially arguing with himself.

Micky Mouse probably made him do it

Perhaps he is taking his lead from his boss the Prime Minister.

RS: We must stop the boats
RS2: There is a cost of living crisis and people don't like the ULEZ. We must stop the ULEZ too.
RS: More pollution means more climate change.
RS2: The voters in Uxbridge are very clear we must stop ULEZ. No one likes expensive climate change policies.
RS: More climate change means more migration.
RS2: The cost of living crisis is what matters to people we must stop the ULEZ.
RS: More migration means more boats, we must stop the boats.

etc for ever.

Just hearing migrant boat death off the coast of Italy. This will get worse.

The only countries that have reversed numbers use harsh systems. The U.K. will need to decide if they want to do the same as those deterrent systems or if they want the increased chaos of mass movement

There’s no orderly easy queue option because the numbers will increase due to ease, and it will be prohibitively high.

Worth reading articles on mass displacement and climate change. I don’t think people on this thread deny climate change, so if they accept that then they’ll know movement of people will increase. There are high projections online.

So how is the Prime Minister both going to increase climate change and stop the boats?

Of course climate change is not the only reason for migration, inequality is another important factor, which of course Sunak is a good example of. Another matter than no one has been able to explain to me is why it is right that he pays a lower proportion of his income in tax than teachers and nurses do.

Fuckingfuming1 · 09/08/2023 10:14

I’m sick to death of stating the bleeding obvious if we don’t want people to come here and lower our standard of living then we need to raise Theirs wherever they’re coming from. Honestly this is not difficult

Very true, instead the Tories have cut Foreign Aid by over 50% (due to using FA money to look after migrants here)

Totally incompetent.

You keep repeating the same posts

I know you are committed to Labour, probably one of the most, but I doubt you deny climate change

Look up numbers for mass displacement. Labour’s policies are not viable when mass movement ramps up

Can you name any countries that have successfully reversed boat numbers, how did they do it?

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 10:18

Even the title is misleading and inaccurate. Lee Anderson is the deputy chair.

The Labour immigration policy if you can call it that, is so ineffective as to be an open door policy. I have no faith whatsoever in any improvement for the country or the trafficked migrants.

How much £ are you suggesting will do this?

Is it really ‘not difficult’? What about when it’s more uninhabitable

Yes, Australia were very successful. We are trying to implement a similar policy now but wading through the court process.

So what exactly are you proposing?

The UK hasn't the Cook Islands nearby, some talk of using Ascension Island but that's a strategic defence base and very unspoilt environmentally, would also take many years to build the facilities for 100k plus migrants.

So how would YOU do it? sink the boats in the channel and leave these folk to drown?

Sorry no we are not, nothing at all similar.

Rwanda hasn't agreed to take 10s of '000s of migrants.

If the candidates I have voted for in previous elections are a guide I am quite unlikely to vote Labour, but am something of a swing voter, depending on the parties current policies and candidates.

Oh they will quickly upscale when they realise how much money is available, and that the migrants quickly disappear elsewhere.

Yesterday you said @Remembermynamealways that Labour did not have an immigration policy, could you share with us what you have read since then that means you now know what that policy is?

If it does finally get through the courts, or one similar, and Labour go ahead with overturning the policy as stated it’ll be interesting to see how much they regret that

True about Aus, plus Aus Labor haven’t touched it for a reason, the other party did the we’re harsh part and they get the zero / very low boats. They’d be mad to overturn it and see thousands again.

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 10:26

Yes, that is not off the table. I would be content with a Labour led coalition as we might then get a push for PR.

IClaudine · 09/08/2023 10:30

Opposing this fuck up of a government does not = a Labour supporter.

There is so much support for strong immigration controls in Australia, no one would dare touch it, they don’t have the wet woke brigade to contend with though, and can see the ruinous consequences of an open door policy.
Controlled immigration, as a bare minimum for security reasons if for no other reason is essential to all countries.
