"If they don't like barges they should fuck off back to France". 30p Lee Anderson of course, not the BNP. Not the National Front or whatever their current name is. The Chairman of the Conservative Party. Supporters must be so proud. What a statesman. So Churchillian.

What you need a qualified people who can do the job. Who gives a shit how they get here?

You need them to be qualified that’s the issue. if migrants need support when they get here with language and trauma that alone will make it difficult. Next up is what are they trained in. It’s hard to take this line of argument seriously tbh

You clearly support people traffickers - fantastic morals.

You still haven't said where you're going to go if Labour win the next election.

Scroll back, it’s there from pp

AgathaSpencerGregson · 09/08/2023 08:19

Those aren’t legal provisions. That’s an article, which I brought to your attention originally, which discusses the potential offences that may be committed by people entering the uk via channel crossings and how the courts and CPS deal with those issues.
you cannot point me to legal provisions conferring a right to seek asylum in why he er country you choose, because they don’t exist.

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 08:20

How many qualified doctors do you know jumping into dinghies at Calais!!

it’s preposterous!

A silly distraction. Visas are there, if people are ready to work it’s likely cheaper and far safer than paying a smuggler.

Remembermynamealways · 09/08/2023 08:22

Labour would have us believe people are trafficked here because they are all desperate to help the NHS. Of course they are!!!!

Why not send boats to collect them?

Notonthestairs · 09/08/2023 08:23

"You need to use targeted work visas for that"

You better tell the New Conservatives - they want to reduce them.

13 years in Government, a still sizeable majority and the Conservatives have another 18 months to call an election. We've got a wonderful economy & stellar public services. I'm shocked you've written yourselves off like this.

I'm quite sure people will cast their vote based on their experiences of the Tories in power.

Or if you don't trust your own record you can always try Project Fear, that must be worth a go.

Work visas are pretty high, skilled visas included, net migration is on the high side. Labour have made vague noises about reducing it too.

Do you think migration will decrease when climate crisis gets worse?

Can you give a straight answer?

ULEZ

The 'leaked' letter in your link (from 2020) refers to the previous expansion of ULEZ in October 2021 (to the North and South Circular roads);

“Given the significant rise in congestion in inner London, we also propose the extension of the central London congestion charging zone to cover the same area as the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) and at the same time, October 2021."

ULEZ was extended to the North and South Circular roads in October 2021 - it is not the same expansion as the one being introduced in 2023. Map of the 2021 expansion in green - 2023 expansion in blue:

Do you think all those young men are experienced health and/or care workers? There are legal, cheaper means of entry for people to fill roles in those sectors.

CloudyMcCloud · 09/08/2023 08:36

If people really don’t believe climate crisis isn’t going to impact movement of people google mass displacement and read some articles

Feel free to call the writers project fear etc if it doesn’t fit your political party loyalty but you have as much hope of stopping rising water levels.

Do people really think it’s not going to change or is it just political loyalty first for the sake of a GE?

Why aren’t we encouraging healthcare workers to take those legal, cheaper means of entry them? And why aren’t we giving those already here visas so they can work?

The article quite clearly explains why the UK government doesn't prosecute any asylum seekers who have arrived her illegally and that it has been established in UK case law that transit through another country does not negate a person's right to claim asylum in the UK.

It was very good of you to share such a clear and thoughtful article.

Why not send boats to collect them?

Or why not have safe and legal routes to bring them here?

We had lots of migrant workers in our health and social care sector. Until Brexit.

Now we need more.

jgw1 · 09/08/2023 08:43

Dymaxion · 09/08/2023 07:29

We will finally sell up and leave. It really will be time to call it a day.

So you will be an economic migrant ?

You say it has if being an economic migrant is a bad thing.

I very much enjoyed my years living and working overseas, as I am sure did the Prime Minister.

The opportunity to live in a different culture and see a bit of the world is a great thing.

Apparently we already have safe, legal routes. According to @Seymour5.

You’ve already posted this. Security will be a priority including energy. What you are arguing for is not going to be desirable when numbers increase.

So why then does Mr "stop the boats" Sunak want to decrease measures to prevent climate change?

If you are

Female
Have female children
drive a car
wish for a warm house in winter
Need a school place
live in the country
more anywhere with limited transport links
Require energy of any kind
Are a tax payer

Anyone sitting in any of these categories will be completely screwed under Labour

They are up to their necks having taken money and massive donations from the trans lobby and eco mob will have no choice but to deliver for them.

Anyone in that list and more besides are already screwed under the Tories who are taking massive handouts from their mates, Russian or not.

Funnily enough they just announced on radio 4 that someone from labour is coming on to talk about what they would do.

I've just listened to it.

Here is an abridged transcript.
YC = Yvette Cooper - Shadow Home Secretary
NR = Nick Robinson Radio 4 Interviewer.

YC - We need a managed asylum system. We would go after the criminal gangs
NR. - We need a deterrent. I don't think that on it's own would be a deterrent.

YC- We need a properly functioning asylum system
NR - What would be a good deterrent.

YC. Woffles and won't say what a good deterrent would be but says it's not the barge.
NC. Points out that France won't do a deal except as part of the EU and even if they did other EU countries like Hungary won't agree.

https://www.politico.eu/article/hungary-challenge-eu-court-ruling-migration-viktor-orban/

YC. Ignore points and woffles on about having a comprehensive return policy with EU. Says that Theresa May did have that idea before it was over-ruled. Says that the Dublin Agreement was good but not a total solution.
We need more co-operation with Interpol it's very thin at the moment.

NR. Surely the Barge is a symbol that they can't come here and get a 4/ 5star lifestyle and that they can't 'shop around'.

YC. It's dearer than longstanding asylum accommodation across the country.
We need grit not gimmicks.

--------------

So there you have it folks. Labour's 'Immigration Policy'.

Just soundbites and smoke & mirrors.

Notonthestairs · 09/08/2023 08:47

Call an election then - let's get those manifestos out.
