One post, not mine.
"I think the people whose mission it is to sabotage every solution or suggestion that's put forward to what is a complex problem on a massive scale, need to examine what their real motives are. I think you don't actually give a shit about the people themselves, or about the long term ramifications of how many migrants continue to arrive with nowhere to go. You are just obsessed with making life as difficult as possible for this government, at any cost. To prove what, I am not entirely sure."
And another, also not mine. Yet there are posters insisting that open borders is the only morally correct option, ignoring sensible moderate comments like...
"Just take a look at the moral superiority dripping from this post. The absolute contempt for anyone with a different view. Then these people wonder why the general public does not want to be lectured by them. Wonder if they realize how detached from reality they are and how they are shouting into the void, just hearing their own voice and feeling smug about it."
Unless politicians of any party can outline options that don't commit the middle earners and tax payers to shouldering the expense of housing anyone willing to take a 20 mile journey in an unseaworthy inflatable boat, then most people struggling with their own mortgages and utility bills are likely to take a dim view of increasing the burden on the tax payer.
Where is the UK's moral obligation to Iranians, who constitute one of the most numerous groups of migrants? We are not an Islamic country. We have not been involved in war with Iran. The repressive theocracy is one of Iranians' choosing.
