To have bought myself.........

50 years old, and i bought a Sindy house.
I was desperate for a Sindy house as a child and never had one. I saw an immaculate one on Ebay with every wonder you can imagine inside it.
Oh, the joy of the tiny salt and pepper. The detail in the teeny knives, etc.
What toy were you desperate for, and did you ever get it.

I actually got my most-coveted Sindy toy!

It was out of production and couldn't be bought in the shops, so my resourceful mum put an advert for one in the local newspaper - and someone sold it to her in pristine condition, still in the box!!

It was Sindy's red sports car and I loved it, until my fucking sister sat on it, squashed the windscreen and broke off the steering wheel!!!

I think I still have it - all my Sindys, Barbies, Skipper, Paul, Vicky, Patch, June, Daisy, Tressy, Amanda Jane and the Matchbox girls are still in my roofspace!

😳 UNforgiveable!

Lemonyfuckit · 08/08/2023 20:28

Haha I love this for you OP!

I was actually reminiscing with my DM after we went to see the Barbie film together whether I actually had any Barbies or whether mine were all Cindys including my most coveted Make Up Cindy (most longed for Christmas present one year, which I nearly ruined by purposely hunting for and uncovering the hiding place - my punishment was they would 'have to see' whether I still deserved it and only if I was very good between then and Christmas).

I didn't have a house but I do remember having a hairdressing salon and a jacuzzi that you could put water and bubble bath in and make bubble by pressing a pump. Not sure whether they were Barbie or Cindy, they probably came from a car boot sale but we're very prized nonetheless.

I’d love to have the Palitoy Play Family Tree House that my daughter ( 48 next week ) had as a child !

SpacePotato · 08/08/2023 20:32

I had this. It was huge and solid. You could sit on it and scoot along.
I still have the patio furniture!

My DD's new one is tiny in comparison and very flimsy.

I had the Sindy house! I remember coming down for Christmas morning and it was in the living room - magical!

My sister bought me the real my little pony that she had which I'd always wanted - Cotton Candy. (I was only 35 at the time, lol). My dds were confused as to why it was so chonky compared to theirs. 🤣

I would actually kill to get back my three Pippa dolls and their 'apartment' which was ultra-cool and stylish, like they were three girls living in a London flatshare with mad 70s decor.

My Sindy was a spy who collaborated with Action Man on Cold War missions to places like Leningrad and Minsk. Obviously she did all her spying looking quite stylish but she also spent a lot of time planting listening devices and shooting people.

I don't know why any of this was even part of my frame of reference in 1982 when I was about six, to be honest, seems a bit weird now I think of it!

My Sunday was having an affair with Ken behind Barbie’s back. My parents really should’ve been monitoring what I was watching on TV better 🤣

BravoMyDear · 08/08/2023 20:49

*my Sindy, damn autocorrect!

QuestionableMouse · 08/08/2023 21:01

I bought myself a little herd of Breyer horses. Never got them as a kid because they were too expensive so I'm slowly collecting them.

They are blinking expensive still though!

If money was no object, I'd have a custom resin horse but they are ££££.

I wanted a Barbie. As a child I got a Fleur and while she was lovely, I never got a barbie. So I asked for one. And received a knock off doll from my brother. They thought I was being silly and didn't bother to get even the cheapest one. I'm far too old to be getting one myself.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 08/08/2023 21:10

I bought myself cabbage patch kids a while ago. Nowadays I crochet myself toys because I’m a grown up and can do as I please

I've also started buying my childhood books like Ladybird fairytale I love them. I felt silly at first but if it makes me happy I don't care. Good on you OP!

I have done this with Sweet Valley Books.

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 08/08/2023 21:23

I did get the Jem doll, but light up earrings didn't last long before they broke!

The only toy I remember being rather upset at not getting was a Get Along Gang Dotty dog (just like the pic) for some reason! I would have also fancied Ghost Castle which I didn't get either (probably because like most games in our house it would end up getting flung across the room by my sore loser sibling), but i remember having some tears over that dog 😄 Not fussed about her now, sorry Dotty!

DD has 2 of my My Little Ponies and a big box of lego my mum saved in the loft.

Barbie Campervan! All about the accessories, the teeny miniature versions of everyday objects.
Also, a Transformer, because they were so cool. They were, I believe, robots in disguise.
I never got either. I got a toy ironing board. Oh, the endless role-playing fun... (sarcasm).

kerstina · 08/08/2023 21:38

I don’t blame you OP. I always regretted giving away my precious Pippa doll collection and pink bag to my cousin and have been watching Pippa dolls on EBay for the last few weeks .I still have my Sasha doll. A baby one in dungarees and would like to collect more of the older Sasha dolls but they are fetching a lot on EBay . They are beautiful timeless dolls though. As are Pippa .

5128gap · 08/08/2023 21:53

I had the budget version of the Sindy house. Two pieces of stiff cardboard that slotted together in a cross shape to make 4 rooms, decorated as bathroom, bedroom, sitting room and kitchen. All the furniture was massive by comparison.
My favourite was Princess Pippa who had hair to her feet.

dayswithaY · 08/08/2023 22:16

@HuntingoftheSnark thanks for the photo, I love them! When I was little they were always in a glass case at the toy shop as they were so expensive. I loved their beautiful but quite sad faces.

I had to make do with Tiny Tears.

Failingatthemoment · 08/08/2023 22:46

Well .........i have a SIMON! Anyone remember them? I saw it in a charity shop a year or so and couldn't resist. Always wanted a cadbury chocolate machine and a stretch armstrong😁

workistoomuch · 08/08/2023 22:53

I absolutely LOVE this! It makes me want to dig out my dolls house from my parents loft!

I used to love dreaming my way through a breyer catalogue. Tempted to get one now 🤣

LunaNorth · 08/08/2023 23:00

I had the Sindy house with the working shower and a lift up the side.

I had no idea how to play with it though. The dolls used to get on my nerves because they couldn’t stand up 😳

You should totally do it! 😁

(Chestnut Ridge are brilliant - they pack stuff super well and it's delivered quickly! 😁😂)

LondonWeeknd · 09/08/2023 00:35

I didn't have the Sindy house but did have the bathroom - sort of dark orange colour if i remember correctly.

ConnieTucker · 09/08/2023 00:42

A la carte kitchen. I got a small non-a-la-carte kitchen instead.

JaceLancs · 09/08/2023 00:44

I loved Lego as a child but DM gave it all away - I also loved my dolls house so am now combining the 2 with adult Lego
we swap it around with the seasons - currently building the boutique hotel - toy shop is next on the list
