50 years old, and i bought a Sindy house.
I was desperate for a Sindy house as a child and never had one. I saw an immaculate one on Ebay with every wonder you can imagine inside it.
Oh, the joy of the tiny salt and pepper. The detail in the teeny knives, etc.
What toy were you desperate for, and did you ever get it.

As a kid,I loved my little pony

Long story involving my narcissistic mother,I only had 4-and one was a fake

2 where hand me downs, one a present and not sure of the 3rd

I grew up,had kids of my own and they didn't bother with them

Then, with my limited IT skills,I opened an eBay account

Now I own all the ponies I didn't have as a child-and the ones I did have (they where put in a skip when I was 14-i loved those ponies)

I also own a stable and a nursery

I don't play with them but just knowing they are upstairs on my bookshelf makes me very happy

Mr frosty WAS crap-my brother got it-im still looking for jem and the hollograms/the barbie I did have (this was the 80's and she was from the 60's/70's) and a lights alive (I loved my lights alive)

I've made my children promise that when I die,the while lot is to be donated to a museum

AmazingSnakeHead · 08/08/2023 10:15

I had one!! Loved it. Didn't like dolls but my collection of beanie babies had entire lives going on in that house.

Seeleyboo · 08/08/2023 14:09

I'll get some pics for you all shortly. I don't have the space for it, and it's currently squashed between a dining chair and living room sofa but it stays. The iddy biddy eggs in the fridge are beyond cute. Hold fire for pics.

That has taken me back as I had one. Is it my imagination or should it have a lift up the side?

SquashPenguin · 08/08/2023 15:18

I love this! I follow an Instagram account for someone who collects barbies etc, and the nostalgia I get from seeing one I had as a kid is crazy! I had lots of Little Mermaid dolls and I love to look at all the pictures of them. One day I’ll go up in my dads loft and get them all back 😊

OnePlusOneEqualsThree · 08/08/2023 15:27

I love this. Can't wait to see the pictures

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/08/2023 15:31

Aah this is lovely. When I was a kid I really wanted a care bear. I had loads of toys but never a care bear. My 10 yr old DD used her own money to buy me a cheer bear for Mother's Day 🥰 and it sits on my bed and yes I do sometimes cuddle it in my sleep 😬

ManateeFair · 08/08/2023 15:36

I would actually kill to get back my three Pippa dolls and their 'apartment' which was ultra-cool and stylish, like they were three girls living in a London flatshare with mad 70s decor.

My Sindy was a spy who collaborated with Action Man on Cold War missions to places like Leningrad and Minsk. Obviously she did all her spying looking quite stylish but she also spent a lot of time planting listening devices and shooting people.

I don't know why any of this was even part of my frame of reference in 1982 when I was about six, to be honest, seems a bit weird now I think of it!

BestIsWest · 08/08/2023 15:39

Lego flowers. I LOVED Lego and in 1970 I didn’t know you could get little Lego flowers until I went to a friends house. I coveted them. Of course now you can get actual bouquets.

paisley256 · 08/08/2023 15:40

On a whim I bought ballerina Sindy a few years back and some clothes...really dunno why as I don't do anything with her, but I enjoy seeing her on the shelf and she evokes happy memories of being a kid living with my nan. Plus she's worth a fortune now too.

paisley256 · 08/08/2023 15:42

I've also started buying my childhood books like Ladybird fairytale I love them. I felt silly at first but if it makes me happy I don't care. Good on you OP!

Lookingatthesunset · 08/08/2023 15:42

I actually got my most-coveted Sindy toy!

It was out of production and couldn't be bought in the shops, so my resourceful mum put an advert for one in the local newspaper - and someone sold it to her in pristine condition, still in the box!!

It was Sindy's red sports car and I loved it, until my fucking sister sat on it, squashed the windscreen and broke off the steering wheel!!!

I think I still have it - all my Sindys, Barbies, Skipper, Paul, Vicky, Patch, June, Daisy, Tressy, Amanda Jane and the Matchbox girls are still in my roofspace!

Well being a tomboy I desperately wanted an action man, stretch Armstrong or Evil Knievil. I don't think I'd get them now although action man might tempt me.
However, if I saw my childhood best friend, a fisher price truck in a charity shop it would be coming home with me.

Having a big brother and some neighbours who were boys older than me meant I had tons of hand-me-down Action Man stuff when I was a little girl. Not going to lie: the amount of incredibly detailed accessories you could get for Action Man then was astonishing.

My brother had a Stretch Armstrong and it was epic, except he once accidentally caught him on a bit of barbed wire and nicked his weirdly over-tanned plastic skin. At the time it seemed like a minor blemish that did not affect Stretch's performance as a strongman-slash-contortionist, but then he left Stretch sitting on a shelf for a couple of week and then discovered that a weird, incredibly sticky, glue-like substance had leaked out from the small hole and set harder than concrete. Stretch had to be physically chiselled off the shelf by my dad.

I assume today's Stretch Armstrong (or is it Stretches Armstrong) are filled with something less noxious, but I'd still proceed with caution. Or just don't make him hang off a barbed wire fence.

@teaandtoastwithmarmite that is so lovely and heartwarming.

pumpkin1212 · 08/08/2023 15:45

I bought some cat sylvanian families when I was about 35. Never had any as a kid and was jealous of my friends who did Smile

ThetollofTime · 08/08/2023 15:47

I saw a bundle of 'My Little Pony' on my local FB page and i have never been so tempted in my life. I flip flopped over it for days!

My mum refused to buy official MLP as she had very strong opinions about them being 'overpriced' so I had a nasty set of really really cheap knockoffs that were crosseyed and smelt weird. Combined with my knockoff 'Cindy' doll it made me a playground pariah.

I didn't buy the MLP because only the week before i had bought some Dinosaur pyjamas (I had asked for some for a birthday and I got some more 'appropriate' princess ones and to this day i can still feel the hot sting of disappointment 40 odd years later) but no more! I LOVE my dino Pjs

I would have bought the MLP too but i think my partner would have started to worry that i was having some form of midlife crisis!

paisley256 · 08/08/2023 15:48

Oh Sylvanian Families - I could go crazy for those, you've inspired me now @pumpkin1212 I'm off to Ebay!

barbarahunter · 08/08/2023 15:50

What a fantastic thread! I am another who always wanted a Sindy house. I'm looking forward to OP's pictures 😁

Oh Sylvanian Families - I could go crazy for those, you've inspired me now @pumpkin1212 I'm off to Ebay!

My mum (who is 80) confessed to me recently that she is sorely tempted to buy herself a Sylvanian Family house every time she passes through the toy department in John Lewis.

My brother and I also spent about three hours recently playing with my nephew's PlayMobil pirate ship. My nephew's 22, so the pirate ship had been dug out to go to the charity shop, but my brother and I couldn't let it go without setting up some adventures on the high seas.

Finefinefine · 08/08/2023 15:53

Me and DH saw some kids flying a kite the other day and it looked so much fun.

we both reminisced that we both never had kites as children but ones our dads would make out of bamboo sticks and tesco carrier bags that never really worked. So we have a kite on order. Excited!

EarringsandLipstick · 08/08/2023 15:55

I love this thread!

Same for me, TollofTime!

I also never had a Cabbage Patch Kid as my mum thought they were 'ugly'. God how I wanted one.

I preferred Sindy to Barbie actually. The dark hair. I really really coveted long glossy shoulder-length hair.

venusandmars · 08/08/2023 15:58

Loved my Sindy. My friend had loads of the proper Sindy clothes - I was so envious. I had to make all mine. I knitted her a bra and pants, and made an orange velvet evening dress, with a row of sequins on the bottom. If she were real she might have hated me Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 08/08/2023 16:00

I was brought a t
Remote control car as an Adult! Unfortunately it didn't work well on carpet!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/08/2023 16:01

Have also bought lots of Cabbage patch kids.
