Netflix. Dd boyfriend using my account

My dd has just started seeing this lad. He is currently unemployed, still lives with parents. She was over at his last week and signed into Netflix on his TV. When leaving she didn't sign out as it seemed mean. I'm unsure really. If I change the password I can stop him continuing but don't want to embarrass dd by doing this. Also if she goes back again it will just be repeated. Wwyd? Ignore or get him signed out? We go on holiday soon ourselves and will be using Netflix whilst there some evenings.

Change the password.

LookItsMeAgain · 06/08/2023 11:57

Reset your password. Guarantee that it won't just be your DD's boyfriend using your account.

CherryMaDeara · 06/08/2023 11:58

Change the password. Do it now before it becomes expected that he gets one of your device allowances.

Tell dd she needs to sign out wherever she uses it or she can’t use it.

DinoRoar14 · 06/08/2023 11:59

You don't need to change the password.
You can go into settings. Find his device and sigh it out.
Tell DD that it's not something you want shared.

I do password share. Have about 6 family members using mine. It's annoying though when you go to watch something and you can because somebody else Is on.

I wouldn't be tolerating that for DD unemployed BF

UncertainSmiler · 06/08/2023 11:59

Change the password. With Netflix’ current policies you could find yourself shut out of your own account.

randomusernam · 06/08/2023 12:00

What's the problem with him using it? Are you finding you are getting kicked off for him? Feels a little petty if the only reason you don't want him using it is because he's unemployed and you don't like him. This sort of thing will just drive a wedge between you and daughter. I would just ignore unless it is causing problems. If it is, just explain to your daughter you are finding you can't use it now he is logged in and can she log him out.

WeetabixTowels · 06/08/2023 12:01

Go in your settings and kick him out.

Im in the minority in that I hate other people using my Netflix account, also it means a screen is taken up!

This.

Then remind her to always sign out of any accounts used on other people's devices.

TrishM80 · 06/08/2023 12:02

How old are they, out of interest? I'd never let a daughter of mine date someone who's unemployed.

RoseAndRose · 06/08/2023 12:03

Yes, change your password.

And then you sign your DD in to her device, but don't tell her the new password, so she cannot add new devices.

And how wise one would you enforce this on an autonomous individual?

You will get people asking why you care about this, but YANBU. Change the password.

I'm interested about how you would stop a grown adult dating someone you didn't like?

WilkinsonM · 06/08/2023 12:05

He'll be kicked out soon anyway as Netflix no longer lets you share passwords between different households and you have to log into the home Wi-Fi network to keep logged in. I would ignore it personally unless it causes you a problem.

Dombasle · 06/08/2023 12:06

Change the password and tell your daughter that she must not give it to the boyfriend and must sign out every time.

Personally I would t give the password to the daughter at all. She doesn't sound mature enough to be responsible to have it.

INeedAnotherName · 06/08/2023 12:08

Go into settings and sign his device out. Then speak to DD to not leave it logged in anymore or to ever say what the password is, otherwise you will change the password itself.

This isn’t the case; I’ve known people who were password sharing locked out of their own account as Netflix introduced the policy just after another household had used the account. You just can’t let other households use your account any more, it’s not worth the risk.

WilkinsonM · 06/08/2023 12:08

What on earth are people so concerned about if he has the Netflix account logged in? It's not the dark web, nothing will happen to you.

Whattodowithit88 · 06/08/2023 12:10

We all share my brothers, about 4 houses, if he wants to go on and everyone is using it he just kicks someone off so he can watch his thing, no one moans, his paying.

Because it’s very hard to revoke access from people once they’ve got used to it.

I get lots of free accounts through work and so many people chase me when they lose access.

Currently about 12-18 people rely on me for access.

Yes you can! It costs £5 per extra account. You just need to register the account and agree to pay the extra £5. Literally nothing bad will happen.

WunWun · 06/08/2023 12:11

My friend has just been shut out of her own account at home because she regularly uses the account at her mum's house. Now Netflix for some reason believes her mum's house is the owning location!

It's really not. You just say 'no, sorry, I won't pay the extra for you' and move on.

How old is your dd? I’m boggling at the thought of ‘letting’ someone date someone.
