Netflix. Dd boyfriend using my account

My dd has just started seeing this lad. He is currently unemployed, still lives with parents. She was over at his last week and signed into Netflix on his TV. When leaving she didn't sign out as it seemed mean. I'm unsure really. If I change the password I can stop him continuing but don't want to embarrass dd by doing this. Also if she goes back again it will just be repeated. Wwyd? Ignore or get him signed out? We go on holiday soon ourselves and will be using Netflix whilst there some evenings.

Reset the password. Set yours up to be there automatically so dd has no reason to ask for the password

if she tries to set it up for the bf her the truth, Netflix have changed the system to stop this from happening

Hibiscrubbed · 06/08/2023 15:42

Change the password. Don’t be a people pleasing drip.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 06/08/2023 15:44

Log out of his device and also change the password.

How old are they, out of interest? I'd never let a daughter of mine date someone who's unemployed.

Really? Will your dd be following your rules as an adult?

OrigamiOwls · 06/08/2023 12:03

I'm interested about how you would stop a grown adult dating someone you didn't like?

If they are on the gravy train then cutting off funds works pretty well. Otherwise telling them to move in with the layabout tends to be effective .

LadyBird1973 · 06/08/2023 15:59

Unemployed doesn't equal layabout. Maybe he's desperately looking for work.

CurlewKate · 06/08/2023 16:07

Can someone explain what the issue is with this? As far as I am aware someone else using your Netflix account doesn't cost you any more or restrict your use at all. If I'm right about that then is the only reason simply mean spiritedness? It must be, surely?

I don't get it either but I think some posters think he is a CF. Though we don't know if dd said its fine to use.

Some just don't like sharing I guess and think I pay for it get your own.

🎣 I am disappointed with how many you caught there! 😂

Trulywonderfulworld · 06/08/2023 16:22

Change the password and tell your dad not to use it elsewhere.

Bit harsh, not everyone is a dole dosser for life? I’ve been unemployed twice, now I pay about 15k a year in tax…

As a single person paying the same as someone with multiple household members using the same login, I don’t feel it’s bad to want to allow someone else to also use my login. If we are going to crack down on logins, I think that they need to give a discount for single users. It irritated me to be paying high monthly payments for internet in lockdown for example and struggle to get bandwidth for a phone and work laptop when other homes paying the same were running masses of devices.

Do you even understand how Netflix works? You’re already getting a discount if you have the basic package which only allows one user to use it:

  • £4.99 per month The cheapest membership is an ad-supported tier that allows subscribers to watch on one device at a time with no downloads available.
  • £6.99 per month This membership allows subscribers to watch on one device at a time in standard definition.
  • £10.99 per month Standard subscription - Viewers can watch in HD and on two devices at a time.
  • £15.99 per month Premium subscription - Viewers can watch in Ultra HD where available, on four devices at a time.

@Eddyraisins "I don't get it either but I think some posters think he is a CF"

It must be so exhausting looking out for potential slights all the time!!

Thank you every days.. and all that.

Shouldhavedoneitsooner · 06/08/2023 20:06

I do know how Netflix works. I was responding to the pious people saying that sharing logins is akin to stealing. If I, as a single user, am likely to go for weeks without watching anything because I am literally one person, as opposed to a household with one login for multiple users who will use the login more often, then sharing my login with someone else not at my address or on my devices that will not use it at the same time as me seems fair. One login is not one user in many cases. This currently still works but if they are cracking down on it in the way implied then I don’t feel that is fair and then I think Netflix should offer a single user subscription.

xanthippe8 · 06/08/2023 20:07

But larger households are unlikely to take the £4.99 basic package, there would be too many arguments, so you do have a package aimed at you. Most families would take the Standard or Premium package.

"I can't afford Netflix please can you give me your login details?"

If you were someone I knew-like my DD's boyfriend-yes of course I would.

But OP doesn't know the boyfriend. He's a random stranger.

Eddyraisins · 06/08/2023 21:30

She is happy enough for dd to hang out probably share a bed with this random stranger.
Come on now it isn't the same you are being disingenuous.

Her daughters an adult. She doesn't get a say.

Correct.

The DD doesn't get to say who uses the OP's Netflix account.

She needs to be prevented from logging her friends into it - no matter whether OP knows the friends or not
