To think this lady is seriously underpricing these gorgeous bouquets of cupcakes?

They look so real I genuinely thought it was a bouquet of real flowers. She told me it took her 3 years to learn to do them to this standard. How much do you think she charges per bouquet and you can choose the colour theme too?

@caringcarer you sound like you’re plugging a business now.

Ohdearthisyear · 06/08/2023 10:59

I'm suspecting the thread creater is the cupcake creator?

caringcarer · 06/08/2023 10:55

Just to say the maker of these cakes has a 5* hygiene rating.

So do 99% of home-based catering businesses. There are loads around here and they all have 5* ratings. It's not hard to get.

Blanketpolicy · 06/08/2023 11:08

They are a cupcake to be eaten before they very quickly go stale. They are very very pretty, and she must be very talented but still just a short life cupcake so the market price will never be high. I personally wouldnt pay more than £30 and it would need to be for a very specific occasion.

Other than looking amazing it is not even a great gift to a person so it is poor value for money. Who eats that many cupcakes with such heavy icing in a couple of days before they go stale. They would need to give some away.

PromSeason · 06/08/2023 11:09

Yep. Either that or the OP has no clue what’s out there to purchase and for what price. Really weird. They’re nice but nothing out of the ordinary for cake makers. This is what cake makers do and charge £30 for.

dramoy · 06/08/2023 11:11

£30

🙄

dramoy · 06/08/2023 11:12

she needs to branch out into wedding cakes where she can charge ££££

@PromSeason where? can you link to some?

Nevermind31 · 06/08/2023 11:14

I mean, they are beautiful. But at the end of the day, you are getting 7 cupcakes. That’s £5 per cupcake, which is quite steep

Sexnotgender · 06/08/2023 11:17

So 7 (beautifully) iced cupcakes?

£5 a cake feels fair.

WestOfWestminster · 05/08/2023 23:13

I'm surprised by the comments here saying £80. Really? For 7 cupcakes? I would say more like £20/£25.

I think they are nicely decorated but it just comes down to them being 7 cupcakes at the end of it, with some fancy tissue paper?

You should check out amybakes on Facebook. Some of her single cupcakes are £35+ but they are AMAZING!!

Just looked and agree they are amazing, very talented. But I still would never pay that for a cupcake. There must be a market for them and people with more money than sense!

£30. They don't take as long to decorate as people seem to think. They're all done with buttercream and Russian icing nozzles. Yes, it's a skill to get right but quite quick to execute.

Every customer has a market and a price point that suits them, just like cars or any other product. Aesthetics vs Functionality.

PromSeason · 06/08/2023 11:31

@dramoy Is google broken? Just google cake bouquets and lots will come up. And before OP posted the price, I said my friend does these for £30 for 7.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/08/2023 12:09

@5foot5 , for a few years now I’ve made a knitted Nativity Set for Gdcs’ school Christmas raffle. One of the parents once asked me whether I would make her one on a paid basis. I had to say, Sorry, no, I don’t make them to sell.

I didn’t add that because of the sheer huge amount of time involved, I’d want to charge about £500 - which obviously nobody is ever going to pay.

Though I did once see the same N set advertised somewhere online - for £800! Never did see whether it sold, or was a typo and they’d meant £80.

TenDinnerTiddles · 06/08/2023 12:20

£30 seems fair. I bought one for a friend a few months ago and paid £35 including delivery.

5YearsLeft · 06/08/2023 12:35

@5foot5 Oh yes, I mean, I do see your point. And I’m not necessarily talking about your comment. I’m talking about people previously in the thread who were denigrating it as “just cake” and ignoring any skill involved or “why the hell would you want that when you could have a huge salad.” All right, I’m kidding; I didn’t see anyone say they’d rather have a huge salad BUT there were plenty of people talking shite about the cake aspect of it, as in who gives a crap because they’re just cake and cake doesn’t matter HOW VERY DARE THEY, versus specific complaints that I can totally understand like yours - not everyone likes icing, so I do get what you’re saying, and of course there’s enough room in the world for both a nice Victoria sponge and these lovely cupcakes, I hope. Isn’t that what world peace is supposed to mean? Ok, to be fair, maybe not. I’m in a lot of pain, and I would kill for either that really nice sponge you mentioned or those cupcakes. They both sound lovely.

I didn't say you made anything up, just that the technique you mentioned on its own won't make them look like the ones in the OP. Not sure why you're so defensive, I don't care one iota about you or what you can or can't do, just that your statement was incorrect and going from that you wouldn't be able to make them as claimed.

Yes I guess so - I suppose I find it sad that helping someone make more money is seen as a much more valuable skill than creating something beautiful, but that’s capitalism for you!

I have been in a few TV series and occasionally pop up in Hello magazine and other stuff. I go to parties a lot so know how much things are worth.

Take me for example. I am worth a lot. I would expect to be given these for free.

Eh?
