To think this lady is seriously underpricing these gorgeous bouquets of cupcakes?

They look so real I genuinely thought it was a bouquet of real flowers. She told me it took her 3 years to learn to do them to this standard. How much do you think she charges per bouquet and you can choose the colour theme too?

I can't see how these can be delivered cost effectively except by very careful local transport, which would rule out nationwide delivery.

Can you imagine what they'd look like after they'd been through the Yodel/Evri delivery networks?

They are beautiful but also I can't imagine wanting to spend more than £30 on cupcakes regardless of how beautiful they look

There's a lot or icing which isn't particularly enjoyable. And cupcake isn't exactly a substantial amount of cake. It's not like a bunch of flowers that lasts a couple of weeks and smells good. A cupcakes only about 10 minutes of joy

Completely agree with this.
perhaps as some sort of wedding cake alternative but I’d much rather have a bunch of real flowers or a plant and a nice carrot cake!

I agree they are special occasion cupcakes so you have to compare it to a small celebration cake which wouldn't be any more than £35-40
But would probably feed more than 7 people.

A cake for 10-12 people starts at £55 (then goes up depending on extra decor etc) at a nice bakery I have used. Not sure how it could be done for less than £50 whilst still making a profit.

I read a post (not on mumsnet) recently by a baker getting angry at “hobby” bakers who were producing things at or near cost. She was saying that she got lots of messages saying her cakes were overpriced but factoring in ingredients, energy for oven etc she couldn’t have paid herself anything for her time if she did it for the costs people wanted to pay.

That's all very well but she is producing something the is no market for at that price. that's not the hobby bakers problem. They either need to mass produce to make it marketable price or keep it as a hobby.
I wouldnt buy one of those cupcake bouquets as i feel they are style over substance and if i was going to pay £70 for a treat, it really wouldn't spend it on 7 cupcakes, also im diabetic so very particular what i use my spare "treat sugar" on. It's got to be really tasty and nowadays not too sweet as my taste buds have changed.
I have just crocheted a little festival bumbag type thing. Friend said i should sell them. Materials cost me about £5 but probably 7 hours work once i get used to making them, i have never crocheted before so i would speed . People are selling them for £35 - £50 on etsy, friend said she would pay £15 or one (she is young and doesnt have much money) , it really isnt worth making a cottage industry out of it.

To me they’re cheap but I appreciate the technique and the skill gone into making them.

I’ve been to posh cafes before charging £4+ a cupcake no where near as nice and you still have to factor in the cost of materials to make the bouquet.

I’d Happily pay £45-50 for them same as I’m happy to pay 3 times as much to have the top hair stylish rather than the just started junior

I'm surprised by the comments here saying £80. Really? For 7 cupcakes? I would say more like £20/£25.

I think they are nicely decorated but it just comes down to them being 7 cupcakes at the end of it, with some fancy tissue paper?

Would you work for £3 an hour?

I wouldn't - but I wouldn't pay £80 for cupcakes either.

Not everything can be turned into a profitable business.

Depends on the clientele. I would buy them but couldn’t afford to. But I understand why the would be expensive and if I had the money I would.

I suspect if she's already selling them for £30 as OP says, she's not in an area where she can afford to charge £80.

Most people won't pay £80 for seven tiny cupcakes, no matter how pretty they are. It's the same with things like hand-knitted jumpers or crochet - most people aren't going to pay materials plus time for stuff like that. It's a niche market and one that's already pretty saturated.
