To think this lady is seriously underpricing these gorgeous bouquets of cupcakes?

They look so real I genuinely thought it was a bouquet of real flowers. She told me it took her 3 years to learn to do them to this standard. How much do you think she charges per bouquet and you can choose the colour theme too?

I'd pay £25 - £30.

They look lovely but they are just cakes. I generally find cakes with that much decoration don't taste particularly good either.

To be honest, my preferred cake would be a homemade chocolate or Victoria sponge that I can quite easily make myself. Perhaps I'm just not a particularly cakey person.

I imagine yo makes a reasonable profit-n that'd need to charge £50 +. There are plenty of other things I'd buy for £50 that aren't cake

RhymesWithTangerine · 05/08/2023 23:22

Who has £80 for cupcakes? Seriously, that’s got to be a very small market.

User63847484848 · 05/08/2023 23:22

I suppose I was just thinking maybe she’d tested the market and people weren’t willing to pay more

titchy · 05/08/2023 23:23

You could buy 7 cupcakes from Waitrose for a couple of quid though. Add £10 for the icing ingredients, I'd guess icing would take a pro maybe an hour - or two. So even if two hours work at £15 an hour that's less than £45.

Nangnong · 05/08/2023 23:23

Ok looking now there are 3 different sellers of these things within my region and they all charge £30 per 6 so seems to be the going rate

CarPour · 05/08/2023 23:24

They are beautiful but also I can't imagine wanting to spend more than £30 on cupcakes regardless of how beautiful they look

There's a lot or icing which isn't particularly enjoyable. And cupcake isn't exactly a substantial amount of cake. It's not like a bunch of flowers that lasts a couple of weeks and smells good. A cupcakes only about 10 minutes of joy

RantyAnty · 05/08/2023 23:24

They're beautiful. Should be at least 80 plus delivery fee.

PromSeason · 05/08/2023 23:24

My friend does these, £30 for a 7 cupcake bouquet.

Awittyfool · 05/08/2023 23:25

Just googled. This one
https://www.bakesinbloom.co.uk/cupcake-bouquets
£42 for 12. Less than £4 a cake . I think the overall package should be priced higher than individual cost per cake.

marshmallowhearts · 05/08/2023 23:30

The roses probably are hand petaled but I’ve seen piping tips that create the effect of the pink with yellow centre ones and the white ones so that cuts down on time/effort.

Dombasle · 05/08/2023 23:33

They do look lovely but to me they are style over substance.

TMess · 05/08/2023 23:35

I just paid 90 for similar so I would say in the 75-100 range. Unfortunately people have a very odd view of appropriately compensating people who do a craft or art so it’s possible she can’t get nearly what her time is actually worth.

MadAboutIt · 05/08/2023 23:36

I’ve seen a video of someone doing these on TikTok. They already now have the skill and icing tips and so it takes them minutes to pipe the detail on, they were amazingly fast.
They do look lovely but I always think they aren’t really edible. Who can possibly eat so much icing? The icing to cake ratio is all wrong imo so I wouldn’t buy them at all.

Offyoupoplove · 05/08/2023 23:37

Not looked at other responses.

I’d say £35-£45 depending on the area. But personally however beautiful I wouldn’t pay more than £25. So she may be doing well underpricing as she gets more custom.

SadieOlsen · 05/08/2023 23:38

Wow - I've never seen anything like these - my pal would love this for her 60th birthday. I would love to know where to get them from. I think I would pay £70 for something so amazing.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 05/08/2023 23:39

If you think you're undercharging then raise your prices and see if your customers will pay them.

Thesehills · 05/08/2023 23:39

£30

They're pretty but that'd be my maximum.

That's what I was thinking, about the piping tips. And, with a bit of practice, the hand petaled ones could be done quite quickly. A nice gift for the novelty value though. I would consider sending them just because they are cute. I'd expect it to cost a minimum of 40, maybe 50 pounds. Between all the time baking, icing, and materials, unless you're doing it in bulk, these sorts of things are actually not that cheap to make.

Xmasbaby11 · 05/08/2023 23:40

Hmmm I am a cake lover but cupcakes are tricky - they don’t stay fresh long and people rarely eat all the icing so they are not great value. It’s a small number of portions.

I am sure they take great skill but maybe £30?

AvidMerrian · 05/08/2023 23:40

5foot5 · 05/08/2023 23:12

They do look amazing, but I can't imagine what one would actually do with them. I have always found any kind of cupcake a great let down. I like cake as much as the next woman, but I have always found the actual cake part of cupcakes to be a disappointment while all that icing is just too, too sickly.

So true, and tower of cupcake as wedding cake- it’s shit.

Sugarfree23 · 05/08/2023 23:40

I'd think £35-40, similar price to a celebration cake for 15 people.

I think to go much higher she'll price herself out the market,

AnneLovesGilbert · 05/08/2023 23:42

They look exactly like the ones a woman near me makes, I’ve bought them a few times and they’re as nice to eat as look at. Cost under £30 for 7.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 05/08/2023 23:42

£30.

Yes, they're very pretty but they'll just taste of icing. It's style over substance. If I'm going to buy a cake I want a proper cake, not something that just looks nice on Instagram.

Whattheactualwhatnow · 05/08/2023 23:44

£6 a cupcake

MolkosTeenageAngst · 05/08/2023 23:47

Hard to tell the size from the photo but looks like maybe 7 cupcakes each iced? Individually would guess you could charge maximum of £5 for a cupcake but maybe less as selling in a group, so I’d guess £30 - £35.
