to think that SAHM's with school-age children are in fact just stay at home people?

I'm going to get flamed backwards for this, but I really don't care. I'm also going to be accused of all manner of trollery, bite me.

It's my opinion, I want yours - so, SAHM's who's children are at school-all day, aren't they just stay at home people? Not a lot of parenting goes on as far as I can tell.

See now this is nice, SAHM and WOHM united in their common hatred of me.

I'm touched.

hi k9 what a coinicidence have just set off my own smoke alarm

hippipotami · 27/02/2008 11:22

well, what did you expect pissy?

BeauLocks · 27/02/2008 11:22

I'm not sure I understand the issue.

When did it become an offence for someone not to go out to work when their children go to school?

By the way, you are a troll, even if you are a regular. MN won't allow name changing for insulting or inflammatory purposes.

stuffitllama · 27/02/2008 11:23

i do a lot of burning stuff and scraping burnt pans as well

that does take up quite a lot of time actually

K999 · 27/02/2008 11:23

aaww...does this mean that this thread will get deleted?

MissingMyHeels · 27/02/2008 11:23

If people can afford to have one parent not working and are happy with the arrangement then what does it matter what they actually do?

Providing they aren't claiming state benefits I can't possibly think why it is of any concern to anyone else! Plenty of filthy rich people don't work full stop. Do you go around questioning them? If people don't want to work and can afford not to then there is no problem, is there?

stuffitllama · 27/02/2008 11:24

if you work op then you aren't very busy this morning

hippipotami · 27/02/2008 11:24

When all is said and done, mums do what is best for them and their family. If that means ft or pt work, good for them. If that means ft sahming then good for them too. I presume a woman does not take the decision to be a WOHM or SAHM without a lot of thought and input from their partner/family.

So all this critisising disguised as 'genuinly wondering' is just plain daft.

K999 · 27/02/2008 11:24

Lol Stuffit.....after one of my 'cooking' incidents the microwave was so badly covered in mess that I threw it in the bucket as I could not be arsed cleaning it!!!

bobsyouruncle · 27/02/2008 11:25

I'm a SAHM, and in answer to the OP, when my dc are at pre-school/school I study with the OU, do housework, shopping, and cook mainly. I work in the evenings, and intend to continue doing so when both dc are at school full-time, mainly because I think it will make life easier and better for us all tbh. I get the school holidays off in my evening job so I don't have to worry about organising or paying for out of school care. I want to be able to take them to school and look after them when they're ill and pick them up from school, at least when they're very young. Hopefully as they get older I'll finish my studying and get a day job.

It's a cliche I know but one size doesn't fit all does it? I don't have a problem with anyone asking the question though, some people just aren't very good at seeing things from other points of view or accepting there are other ways of doing things than they way they do it. HTH pissy. (now that's a phrase I never thought I'd use... )

stuffitllama · 27/02/2008 11:25

the whole microwave?

mumeeee · 27/02/2008 11:25

They are still Mums when thier children are at school, so they are SAHM's.
Thre is still a lot of parenting going on.

stuffitllama · 27/02/2008 11:25

that's my kinda housewife

stuffitllama · 27/02/2008 11:26

i always make sure I look nice and have ribbons in my hair for when my dh comes home though

and the children line up for inspection, it's a charming tableau

Wisteria · 27/02/2008 11:26

What do I do.....

Walk the dogs for an hour,
come back have breakfast,
Check emails and respond,
Do an hour or so college work,
Pop in to see my elderly neighbour, make sure she's ok, get her some tea/ lunch etc, sometimes pop her to pick up her pension,
Cook a meal for tea
Do some other work for another hour or so,
MN a little more than strictly necessary
Walk the dogs again
Do homework with the girls
Have dinner
Ironing, cleaning, shopping, look after other people's children
Wait for DP to get home, do tea again........
Very occasionally go out for lunch (once a month or so).

2shoes · 27/02/2008 11:26

Yep, was also considering throwing out all the utensils/bowls I had used but thought that perhaps this was going a bit tooooo far! After that the only thing I make/bake is chocolate crispies......

PestoMonster · 27/02/2008 11:28

I don't see why anyone should have to justify what they do or don't do during the day. It's up to you, nobody else's business

stuffitllama · 27/02/2008 11:29

yes have thrown minor utensils in the bin
the odd cake tin

WallOfSilence · 27/02/2008 11:29

Those of you who struggle to fit hours in between school.....

Can't you work night shifts?

monkeybutler · 27/02/2008 11:29

Hi Hippi, know what you mean about the 9.30 - 2.30pm job availablity thing. I gave up a £25K a year job to be a SAHM to my two DC. I still needed cash though so I originally took up night and evening work at a supermarket. I did that for two and a half years until they both qualified for nursery grant. By then I had trained (such as it is!!) acroos all departments and asked for 9.30-2.30pm shifts term time only. I am allowed to take parental leave as and when I wish (its unpaid but you cant have everything). The only trouble is that I have to work Sat mornings and two evenings. I get to do all the SAHM stuff plus earn extra cash. Nil job satisfaction though but brain not really worked since had kids anyway!. Reduction in time with DH can sometimes be seen as a bonus.

stuffitllama · 27/02/2008 11:31

right k9 that's enough faffing about

mazzystar · 27/02/2008 11:31
