God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

Ah same here OP.
Dog owners' behaviour definitely seems to have worsened over the past 2 to 3 years.

Each morning from about 5.30am, there are yappy / barking dogs out in the gardens. Are the owners oblivious or just ignorant ?

There is an office dog at work . I think its unprofessional. Especially when it barks at every delivery. We receive several deliveries a day , each time the rat-on-a-rope barks for several minutes before settling down. When asked to control them, the owner laughs "oh little Dorrit is such a Good guard dog isn't she ? Harr Harr harr". Meanwhile, I've got a customer on the phone who can't hear what I'm saying because of a dog barking in background . We're in the professional services industry, nothing dog related!

And dog shit everywhere. On the pavements , in the parks.

Going for a walk around a National Trust site now is 20% enjoying the scenery, 80% playing dodge the bounding mucky dog running up to you .

Orteul · 30/07/2023 20:58

No I don't like cats either. They kill birds, as do dogs.

I think all pet ownership is a bit scuzzy tbh. Not great environmentally and edging into norman bates .

The UK is generally a dog-loving nation where most dog owners are responsible and clean up after their dogs.

What country are you in OP because that makes a massive difference?

hivetoo · 30/07/2023 22:13

Agreed.

Can't walk through any local parks without inevitably standing on dog shit either.

I hate that I have to just accept that the little bastards will be around me in lots of daily activities.

I don't like your dog and I don't care if he's friendly. Please keep him on a leash and away from me.

Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere? I often feel like this.......about people. They are literally everywhere, work, shops, trains fine, but I can't even walk in the middle of fucking nowhere without tripping over them :)

I can be quite forgiving of dogs. Dogs are what dogs do because they are dogs. People, not so much. Intelligent, enlightened and capable of reason except so many lack any basic ethics, empathy or even respect for others, and there is simply no excuse for it.

Love this response.

theGooHasGone · 30/07/2023 22:17

Dogs are fine, it's the shitty humans associated with some of them that aren't. Same goes for children.

Without the social skills to communicate with humans.

nice ableism.

Boomboom22 · 30/07/2023 22:17

It is worrying when people say they prefer dogs to humans. So they prefer idiotic love with no effort, well they think its love I think more like waiting for you to give so they can eat you. Seriously though, people who say things like that worry me. Do they think the perfect child is passive and obedient? Relationship ? How do they interact with friends if they think they have better relationships with dogs? So strange.

Dogs are the least of our problems. I am completely fed up of entitled, well-off people and their unshakeable belief they are better people because they have money.

The shitting and barking seems almost desirable in comparison.

Pablothepalm · 30/07/2023 22:18

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 30/07/2023 21:15

Do we tax dogs yet ? We should. £24 per month per dog to cover provision of dog bins and cleaning up their messes when the owners fail to do so, and a pot for insurance to pay out a lot of money to victims of dog attacks.

Germany does tax them per month, per year. Yes to that. They also tag and record each animal owned. Would be a nice little earner for the government and discourage puppy mills. What’s not to like?!

Irresponsible dog owners who aren’t committed to their animal and able to care for them properly will think twice about getting one.

I love all animals but my patience wears thin with people who get dogs with little thought or care for the animal involved. I am also sick to death of dog shit everywhere. YANBU OP.

I have never been barked at, jumped on or slobbered on by dogs while in a public space. I wonder where these people live who can’t seem to move for dogs.

Do you really believe this doesn’t happen? You have never seen a dog jump up at a stranger or bark? Never had a dog nuzzle your feet or your bag on public transport? I wonder where on earth you live 🤯

Mindovermatter247 · 30/07/2023 22:18

I absolutely love dogs, my dog is part of my family however, I don’t understand why people need to take thier dogs shopping, to restaurants etc… like why? One it’s not fair to dogs to go shopping and be left waiting outside, secondly it’s not fair on people who don’t like dogs, who are allergic. I work in retail and the amount of people we have trying to pass thier dogs off as service dogs is unbelievable… problem is we can’t question it, because you don’t actually supposed ply needs a service dog…..imo the only dogs needed to go shopping etc is guide dogs. Some owners are absolute dickheads in my opinion….these are the same people that take thier dogs out in hot weather aswell so…

I don't hate kids per se... more the parents who let them run feral. In the past week alone, I have seen a mum not care that her little boy had gate crashed an adult mental health support group because he wanted to do colouring in. She also ignored her daughter who crawled on the floor to approach the therapy dog.
I saw a group of adults change the nappies of 2 babies on the seat in Costa, despite the staff pointing out there were baby changing facilities onsite. They left dirty nappies and a pile of baby vomit on the floor.
In the same Costa (different day), a dad left his small child alone with a tablet, and went off shopping. Treated the place like a creche.

There are a lot bad parents out there, I think everyone can agree about that.

I want to push back though on this "feral kids" thing people are always saying. You wouldn't say "women are allowed to run feral" about a badly behaved hen do, or "who let these [insert ethnic group] run feral in this restaurant". I get no one wants children making a nuisance of themselves, but the language is literally dehumanising, making them out to be wild animals.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 30/07/2023 22:18

I love animals but too many people have too many untrained, nasty dogs in too many places where dogs shouldn’t be. Cafes, shops, shopping centres and National Trust properties and beaches where dogs are not allowed. I’m UK and there is shit everywhere. On the pavement, and plastic shit bags everywhere even in the most rural of areas.

I can't agree that most people pick up their dogs shit. It's everywhere.

Boomboom22 · 30/07/2023 22:19

Obviously old school proper dog owners who keep them under control, don't let them touch you when you visit and understand what a dog is are fine. It's the new type who think dogs are human ie better than that are so worrying psychologically.

Pet ownership is very selfish, don't be surprised that owners are selfish.

People will decry zoos and then lock their dogs up under house arrest. "We need a big fence or fido will escape. Keep the door shut or he'll bolt!" 😂

And people who preach about the environment are often pet-owning hypocrites, who are contributing to climate change by having carnivorous canines at home. Selfish.

Reading all these posts it seems that there are 2 types of dog lovers: those that are aware and respect the fact that others do not share their love of dogs; and those that believe anyone who doesn't love dogs is a sociopath.

To those in the latter group: why would you not respect other people's feelings? You would understand a dog's instinct to protect its personal space, why not afford human beings the same consideration?
