God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

Also, do you know how many children have taken it upon themselves to just start touching my dog, without my consent?

This. I don't have a dog but we always had dogs when I was growing up. I remember taking her for a walk on a lead and a kid ran up to her and hit her on the nose shouting 'doggie'. My dog didn't bite him thankfully but she understandably snapped at him. Luckily his Mum was reasonable and didn't blame my dog, she said it would teach him not to hit a dog again.

I'd done everything right with my dog but no doubt the frothing dog haters on here would blame her!

Myfavouritepenguin · 01/08/2023 13:57

Yeah, the comparison with children is weird. Children are people like you and me. I know that’s obvious - and yet it doesn’t seem to be for some posters!

vivainsomnia · 01/08/2023 14:35

You also said that you have neverbeen barked at by a dog in a public space. So I am not sure what exactly your reality is…
Haha, I certainly did not state I've never been barked at! It just doesn't phase me. Barking is just that, barking. Insistent barking is another matter though!

bloody annoying creatures: hairy, stinky shit-machines
This made me laugh. I though that describes babies perfectly!

My dog has its own smell, like humans do, just a bit stronger. I love my dog's smell. It's not a smell of poo or anything horrible. They have a bath every weekend (and more required) and they then smell so wonderful.

I do agree though that a wet dog is pretty unpleasant.

vivainsomnia · 01/08/2023 14:37

I have found that kids are great around my dog most of the time. It's very cute looking so kids want to pet them. The vast majority do ask first though.

Sadly, they are scared of kids, so rarely let one get close to them. The kids are disappointed but I always thank them for asking.

PurpleButterflyWings · 01/08/2023 14:41

@Boomboom22 WTAF?! Shock Your insults about dogs are horrific. Many of them are lovely creatures. Warm and friendly and adorable. SOME are a PITA as they haven't been trained properly, but it's the OWNER'S fault, not theirs ... They can make wonderful companions and many have proper soft and lovely temperaments/personalities...

I just CBA with one because I am a bit lazy and a bit selfish, and would not be able to give the time and patience that a dog would deserve.

I feel the same about children, running around, screaming, throwing toys and shit everywhere.
75% of people will like my dog, a lot less will like random children.

The difference is children are necessary for the human race. Dogs aren't.

How on earth is it offensive to state facts such as dogs stink, are greasy and they drool? It's true?

Because it's bollocks, that's why.

My comment was to KimberleyClark not you. Apologies if it ended up as a reply to you.

How on earth is it offensive to state facts such as dogs stink, are greasy and they drool? It's true? And they are horrifically ugly, just are. Especially their terrifying mouths. The noises they make are all nasty. These are just truths not offensive.

What is offensive is saying they are just being friendly or will lick you to death. Keep that thing the fuck away from me. You do know weekly there are reports of dogs killing people? I don't believe it's safe. Any good owner sats they would never leave a dog alone with a child as they understand they are dangerous.

What complete and utter horse shit! How does the number of weekly dog attacks compare with the number of murders, rapes, shootings, violent assaults, robberies, burglaries, etc, all of which are committed by humans?

MerinoCashmere · 01/08/2023 14:58

When smells are discussed, my all-time worst smell is wet dog. It’s instinctive and makes me physically retch. I really wish it didn’t.

They're just animals. They aren't going to feel attacked by written words they can't read, and couldn't understand if you helpfully read them out. You literally cannot offend a dog on the internet.

That depends on which side of the fence you are on. I think the opposite. The sooner the human race dies off and the world is left to the rest of the animal kingdom the better as far as I'm concerned.

yuck

Why are you intentionally trying to wind people up?

Why are you intentionally trying to wind people up?

If it is intended to wind people up it falls far short of its objective. It a childish, peurile rant which is embarrassing for the author and easy to dismiss

Do you fancy obliging first?

fitzwilliamdarcy · 01/08/2023 16:10

I dislike free roaming children and dogs, and find that owners of either share many things in common.

I once had a toddler wipe her hands all over my hair on the bus, and when I turned around to see what was going on, her mum stared at me and just went, "what? She's only little."

I had to bloody stand under the dryer at work trying to get what felt like clumps of jam out of there.

Equally, I've encountered dogs that jump up and get mud and spit on me.

I don't like either experience and I don't like people who permit these things to happen, either.

If it's a vote between then I'll choose dogs but only because there are some cute ones.

No why would you have. Just wondering how committed you are to the idea. Show others what you mean etc

Well, I certainly won't be around in 50 years time and I don't have kids so I'm certainly doing my bit.

CelestiaNoctis · 01/08/2023 16:46

I mainly hate the owners. They seem to think you want to kiss their arse for having a dog? Then are put out when you couldn't give 2 fucks.
Also I've noticed a massive increase recently of people having dogs they can't control or aren't trained. Then they look really embarrassed when they start barking and acting out.
Dogs are tolerable at best for me but no I don't appreciate them being anywhere inside and I don't appreciate them not be properly trained.

unicornhair · 01/08/2023 18:11

I grew up with dogs and loved them. I never wanted one as I know the work involved even though DH is keen.
I am sick though at how everyone is meant to accept dogs everywhere. I can’t imagine going shopping in the 1980s and peoples dogs everywhere. DD is scared of dogs and people still keep suggesting we go round to see their dogs no matter how many times you tell them.
I know someone who took their dog on a long haul flight in the cabin, how pissed off would be if you were scared/allergic. Nowhere to run.

gingerguineapig · 01/08/2023 18:15

Roughashouses · 01/08/2023 13:06

What does this mean? You don't like any animals? Not just nuance that's hard eh?

Ah, sorry for the typo. Although I think it was still pretty clear what I actually meant.

People who dislike dogs are accused of being horrible people on this thread because apparently not liking dogs means you don't like any animals and that makes you nasty and not worth knowing.

I don't like dogs. But I do like (some) other animals.

There, I hope that has cleared things up.

gingerguineapig · 01/08/2023 18:16

I don't think the British airlines allow it unless an assistance dog. But it's allowed in the US isn't it. If you book a flight and someone books onto it with a pet dog you should be allowed to cancel without penalty.

MerinoCashmere · 01/08/2023 07:39

You are not the only one, but it’s interesting that so many people’s defence of dog-related problems is that ‘humans/kids are worse’. Is that the best you have?

Yes, because almost all dog related problems are due to humans.

unicornhair · 01/08/2023 18:25

@gingerguineapig they flew from the U.K. and it’s not a support dog. I don’t want to say where because it’s a bit outing. It was for an extended holiday.
I thought they were joking when they said they’d bought it a ticket.
