God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

It's only on MN that I've encountered people who don't appear to like animals. I don't trust people who dislike animals. They are the real sociopaths.

There's a difference between people not liking animals and people not liking being run up to by dogs and slobbered on, not liking yapping dogs when they're trying to relax in a coffee shop and not liking having to watch their every step in case they step in dog shit.

Except for the classical "part of the family" issue, our dog also saves us money on door bell and house alarm and takes care of our exercise. Benefits.

If you genuinely prefer dogs to humans in all aspects of your life, as so many posters seem to, I don't understand how you cope with work, relationships, family, shopping, holidays? Do you just shut yourself away from life? Because dogs don't serve you in shops, drive buses or collect your bins. Do your family know that you really don't like being around them because they don't shit on the pavement and dribble on your sofa?

Well quite.

And also why do you think it’s acceptable to bombard people with pictures/anecdotes about your pets and in the same breath talk about how dull people talking about their kids is.

Cant have it both ways!

It's double standards, if I shit on the pavement then that's gross, but seemingly Fido's fur-poos are heavenly to touch. 😂

How can you argue dogs do nothing for society!
To the average dog owner dogs bring happiness, companionship and responsibility, better health (increased exercise, lowered heart rate, lower blood pressure, reduced risk of cardiovascular issue - all of which there are many scientific studies on).
To someone with health issues they bring so much more!
-therapy dogs (proven to aid with mental illness!)
-medical detection dogs (think dogs that can literally detect when someone is low on blood sugar or alert a person about to have a seizure for example!)
-sniffer & cadaver dogs that detect drugs, bombs, bodies during search and rescue (think of the people saved during turkeys recent earthquakes because dogs alerted where people were under rubble)
-As sad as it is many of the medications, products you take are only available to humans because research was done on animals including dogs.

Most dog owners don't want to stand in dog poo either, or be jumped on by muddy dogs.

Hopefully none of you every become blind, epileptic or trapped to name a few as I'm assuming as you'll all feel so strongly against dogs that you will refuse there help when you need it most!

When did it become acceptable to be so awful towards every dog owner because of the actions of a few? It's not acceptable to treat any other group of people like this so why dog owners?

Dogs don't deserve us 🤦‍♀️💖

I am surrounded by goats and hand rear them and interact all day with them and have never seen one spit. Not sure what would trigger them to do it. I know people report they do, I have never seen any of ours do it. Even competing males who can do seriously disgusting things to show dominance.

The squeamish will love this lol.

I've had cats my whole life and never saw one spit - until one of our current ones managed to lick a lump of shit off her bum and spat it across the floor! We all laughed.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 31/07/2023 19:31

Absolutely agree and I have two dogs of my own! I like my dogs, they are non shedding and on stinky dog scale quite low odour.
However I also don't want to be other peoples dogs, I don't want to eat in a cafe/ restaurant next to someone else's dog (or my own), I don't want to stay in accommodation that accepts dogs as I don't take my own on holiday, and I certainly don't want dogs to come up to me and expect a rub/stroke/tickle 🤢

@Myfavouritepenguin "Dog poo is gross… “BUT so is cat poo” they cry. So? Are you going to pretend that people are forever dodging cat poo on the school run or in the park? Really?!"

That made me laugh!! Anyway most cats do cover their poo, and tend to do it in soil. We have three cats next door and plenty of others that visit, and I've only ever caught one of them crapping in my garden - and the next doors don't have a litter tray so I don't know where they're going!

Funny as all the cats shit on peoples gravel driveways around here!

That may be true. But in the overall scheme of things, dog poo is a massive problem on pavements, parks and other places children play. The same is simply not true of cats to anything like the same extent. That’s just fact.

Tapasgoofy · 31/07/2023 19:54

I love my own dog and I also don’t care if dogs are allowed everywhere. It doesn’t bother me at all

Oh because you said fact that must make it true. Dogs are not allowed in kids play parks so Iv never found crap in any park.

Anyone who tries to pretend that cat poo is anything like comparable to the endemic dog poo problem nationally is having a laugh! I can’t answer for your gravel driveway though.

Dog owners just have low standards so walking about with poo in their pocket is normal to them.

inky1991 · 31/07/2023 20:21

I hear you. I can be in a shop/pub etc and a person with a dog walks in, and suddenly everyone goes crazy and cooing over a dog.

It's so fucking bizarre, there's literally dogs everywhere. Why is it so exciting

Jayne35 · 31/07/2023 20:21

Yes they do, my neighbours cats have destroyed all my plants to shit in the pots. People complain about cats because they are able to go where they like, shit where they like. Most dogs owners are responsible.

Jayne35 · 31/07/2023 20:23

I remember when I was a child there were strays and far more dog mess on the pavements and in parks, until laws were brought in to control it. Believe me, it’s much better now.

DollyLeggs · 31/07/2023 20:29

For me it's untrained children and the very many untrained adults. This country is very quickly going to the dogs.

isitaline97 · 31/07/2023 20:33

"Dog owners just have low standards"

Who do you actually think you are that you can make such a generalising statement such as that? Pathetic

mattthefish1 · 31/07/2023 20:40

Maybe they are just surrogate children for the new society. Birth rates dropping through the floor as dual incomes are the necessity for living in today's Britain. Dogs are the new children for broody couples. As for dog friendly businesses that's just good business catering for the majority as turnover seems to prove.

Lemonademoney · 31/07/2023 20:42

I love animals but even I’m a bit over the dogs everywhere. I was dodging leads wandering round John Lewis the other day. Not sure what happens if pooch decides to go to the loo in JL or brushes past some black clothing on the rail?

NewForest111 · 31/07/2023 20:43

missmollygreen · 30/07/2023 21:01

I feel the same about children, running around, screaming, throwing toys and shit everywhere.
75% of people will like my dog, a lot less will like random children.

Haha, agree 😀

SandwhichGenerationGal · 31/07/2023 20:48

Totally agree with you and don’t get me started on my local ‘next door’ site. Not a day go by without a post or several posts about a lost dog usually with a misleading headline such as ‘I’ve lost my baby boy/girl’ ugh!

Again what a load of crap 😂
