God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

In 1976 we didn't have the horrifying XL bully and related bull breeds to contend with, these creatures are comparable to panthers in terms of their ability and propensity to maime and kill.
The owners of said dogs are comparable to pond life in terms of their ability to think and make decisions.

Sigh @KimberleyClark dog shit is toxic though, I mean all shit is pretty nasty but dog shit is particularly toxic, especially to children as it can cause toxacaris which can cause blindness in children it’s not comparable to bird poo. .

I think I remember reading an article In the BMJ which said that in the early 90’s this was the biggest cause of none congenital blindness in children.

This. Why do parents think I want to talk to their children? I have no interest in their toys or what they have been doing at the best of times and even less so when I'm eating. Don't be offended when I tell your little darling to go away back to his or her own table.

Barrell · 31/07/2023 13:40

I hadn’t realised that sitting next to a dog or sitting next to an annoying child were the only two options in a restaurant. Maybe there should be a third option, namely sitting next to neither?

Dibblydoodahdah · 31/07/2023 13:53

I’m not allergic to children and they will not cause an asthma attack if I come into contact with them. I just wish dog owners would listen when they let their dogs rush at me and I say that I am allergic. “They’re friendly”, “they’re just saying hello”, “they won’t hurt you”…. Totally sick of it and it’s got to the point that I am going to stop being polite.

I would choose option 3 any time. It's just a shame parents don't realise I don't want to engage with their kids and stop them wandering up to random strangers.

Dogs that are regularly wormed will not have toxocara canis in their faeces though. And blindness resulting from thisis exceptionally rare in the UK.

A very small percentage of dogs are affected - and an equivalent number of cats are affected. Dog poo presents no greater risk than cat poo so it's wildly inaccurate to say dog poo is particularly toxic.Toxocariasis is also present in fox poo.

Is there a big public area cat poo and fox poo problem we don’t know about?

LimitIsUp · 31/07/2023 14:10

@SaturdayGiraffe
Eh?
You do know that urban foxes are abundant and poo wherever they want including parks and recreation areas?
Fox poo fairly common occurrence in the countryside too where I live (it has a distinctive 'aroma')
Also few cats are house cats and tend to wander further afield.
I'm not sure if your point if indeed you have one

mrlistersgelfbride · 31/07/2023 14:25

Totally agree.
If you want a dog, fine. Train it and keep it under control around young children and don't expect everyone else to love it.
People who do not like dogs are not psychopaths. I love other animals. I adore cats and I love small furries.
Dogs are a pain in the arse.
When you go to the pub now and you can't have a meal without dogs barking the place down or lungeing at people.
And where I live there are numbskulls who bring staffies, huskies and other aggressive breeds to kiddies play areas to try and look hard. The dogs are often out of control and look like given half a change they'd rip a child's face off- and if anyone objects we are suddenly the ones with the problem?
Get a fucking life.

NotAnotherPylon · 31/07/2023 15:02

Our Facebook community page used to be quite varied and in among all the items for sale, recommendations for various tradespeople, warnings about traffic disruption/power cuts/escaped cows/toxic spills (yep!) there was always a good laugh to be had. Now, it's about 80% about dogs, 10% about cats and the other 10% about everything else. We have escaped dogs, lost dogs, injured dogs, dog walking services, doggy daycare, complaints about barking, complaints about dog poo and loads of other stuff. I honestly wish they would go and set up their own bloody Facebook page.

Maddy70 · 31/07/2023 15:22

I feel exactly the same about kids. They're everywhere. Running around restaurants , being loud on planes , crying and shrieking when I'm reading my book on the beach , in every bloody bar

You see we all live in a society where there are irritations are everywhere. We just have to all mix along as everyone has the right to exist including animals and children

I do wonder about how vegans/vegetarians work it out, buying a carnivore. Any veggies with dogs care to comment?

I’m vegan. I don’t buy dogs. We own an animal rescue centre taking in injured and abused animals.

I'm also vegan.
What (or probably, who) do you feed to your "rescue" animals?

No, I have seen the odd fox poo. Maybe once every 6 months.
Literally never seen a cat poo anywhere (so small, and aren’t they known for burying them?) and yes I do go to children’s play areas where there is sand, surely a giant cat poo magnet if ever there was one!

But today I saw 4 dog poos on the running track at the park. So where do you live where foxes and cats are pooing in human areas at that level?

We do have a local Facebook group for dog owners, so I often signpost people to it. In the hope that they will get the message.

Mind you, today it's all DIY queries which aren't very interesting either! I think FB groups are just boring Grin

Lovely turn of phrase you have there,
OP. Not sure where you live where no-one can goes outside cos of ‘shitting’ dogs but it does sound unpleasant.

Nw22 · 31/07/2023 17:16

@missmollygreen yes I agree children are much more annoying and I notice them causing w lot more problems than dogs. There are w lot more bad parents than there are bad dog owners.

On the other hand I've learnt of a few new places I never knew I could take my dog, Thanks dog haters! 😊🐕

Seriously though when I plan a trip and we're taking our dog so much planning goes into finding somewhere dog friendly, or somewhere with outdoor seating. Shopping is obviously difficult so we tend to resort to window shopping. I'd love to know where your all going that is so dog friendly 😂

I don't think there's a cafe in my town that bans dogs. At the very least they have an outdoor area you can take them into.

Pubs may vary a bit - the more country pubs actively encourage them; there may be others that are more like bars so they don't let them in, but the one I'm thinking of has a big garden so they may be allowed there. It's very expensive so I don't go ;)

The only place I can think where you can't take them is the indoor shopping centre.

Actually cats often don't bury their poo: www.thesprucepets.com/cat-behavior-covering-poop-553937#:~:text=Although%20burying%20feces%20is%20generally,first%2C%20or%20cover%20it%20afterward(see paragraph under subtitle 'Natural Inclinations' i.e. "Although burying feces is generally a modeled behavior from the mother cat, some cats actually never learn to do this. In fact, one study followed female pet cats out and about, and observed them poop 58 times—and only twice did the cats try to dig a hole first, or cover it afterward")
I really can't be bothered to continue to argue with hyperbole and baseless opinion. I have mostly been watching this thread amused at the frothing on both sides, but in a moment of weakness was lured in because sometimes I have a compulsion to correct factual inaccuracies such as "dog poo is particularly toxic"

Really, I can't worked up over the topic so am bowing out now to do something more productive.
