God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

'Their houses always smell'
'They just need something they can control'

This isn't even a legitimate discussion here it's just pure nastiness towards dog owners.

This happens on every dog thread on MN. Nastiness towards people who even have well behaved dogs.

As someone who has a dog that has helped me stay alive during my darkest moments with my MH... people who say I am "feeble minded" can fuck off.

ivybx · 31/07/2023 00:41

Totally agree and people who compare dogs to children need to get a grip, dogs are animals so there is no comparison at all I find it very strange

So, are humans vegetable or mineral?

BadNomad · 31/07/2023 00:45

PSA to dog owners - Your dog is not equal to any human young or old

Equal? They are completely different things. My dog isn't here to serve society. He makes me happy, therefore he has value. Your child doesn't make me happy. Hence, my dog is more important to me than your child.

Mine is sleeping on my foot right now. 😴

I'm genuinely repulsed by people who don't like animals. There is something fundamentally wrong with them. They have a screw loose in my view quite frankly. And absolutely no one can be as horrendous as a human.

PrFi · 31/07/2023 00:48

This is getting ridiculous, nobody wants to address working dogs at all. Every dog owner is an entitled arsehole with zero respect. This is absurd

All the evils of the world have been created by humans. Dogs (and animals in general) are amazing creatures - loyal, beautiful, loving. Humans are bloody awful (as demonstrated by this thread). I also feel sorry for kids who are being brought up by these animal-hating, angry people. No wonder so many kids have mental health issues.

My daughter has been brought up with ponies, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds, tortoises etc and she's turning into a wonderful compassionate human being who loves all creatures big and small.

I think you might be biased! We all think our own kids are amazing! I've got 3 amazing kids no animals in our house!

Your right your dog is important to you! I don't like your dog but dog owners think everyone loves there dog! I DONT LIKE PEOPLES DOGS i find them very annoying everywhere you go!

gingerguineapig · 30/07/2023 22:00

So, no I really do dislike and distrust people who don't like animals. I wouldn't trust them with my dog, but much less so with my child

You are making the mistake of thinking that because someone doesn't like dogs, they don't like any animals.

Exactly, I mean I know vegans who don’t like dogs. Now they’re the real animal lovers because they really do see animals as sentient beings deserving of respect but they’re just not keen on pets due to hygiene & safety concerns etc.

Britain calls itself a nation of animal lovers but it’s not, it’s a nation of PET lovers. Big difference.

I am a dog owner, and I don't think everyone loves my dog at all. I have never met any other dog owners who think that way.
If I think someone is uncomfortable when I have my dog with me, I move away.

BadNomad · 31/07/2023 00:58

dog owners think everyone loves there dog!

No they don't. Dog owners are not one homogenous mass who all think the same. Maybe you've met some people who have no imagination, but the rest of us know not everyone likes dogs.

If a dog owner talks to you about their dog it's usually because they want to share with you something that is important to them. Like how people show photos of their children. They don't expect people to be invested in their children. They're just sharing something that makes them happy. It's the same with holiday photos. It's the same with their new house. Or their new car.

No they don't. They really really don't. Such generalising is very unhelpful.

Clarabe1 · 30/07/2023 23:38

@Treesinmygarden yeah but your indoor cat is environmentally unfriendly.!!! He is literally taking the food out of a starving babies mouth somewhere and is probably somehow responsible for all the rain we are having at the moment. You need to have a serious chat with your might about his crimes against humanity. 😂

😅😆

Sometimes I wish they did shit in other peoples' gardens lol!! Our last cat was outdoor/indoor as he came to us as a stray. He didn't ever shit in our garden, lol - he went and did it in Colin's garden up the street and got chased with a brush!

Both our current girls are rescues - one was straying in the city centre, and the other neglected by her horrible owners to live on the streets 24/7. They bring so much love and joy to our home, and I'm sure dogs are the same.

vodkaredbullgirl · 31/07/2023 01:01

My dogs don't like people and would rather avoid or ignore them, when out on a walk.

isitaline97 · 31/07/2023 01:02

Calling the 10 million owners of dogs in the UK 'entitled arseholes with zero respect' is absurd. Honestly it more accurately describes the people of this thread 😂

Annaishere · 31/07/2023 01:04

I don’t know why anyone would take on that amount of unnecessary responsibility

Because they need homes. Often to try and repair the damage done to them by some evil humans. I want to do that.

Ok that is nice of you. I feel sorry for them too locked in those kennels

BionicEar · 31/07/2023 01:10

I have noticed the shift in the last year or so with more places becoming “dog friendly.” More so since Covid when a number of people brought dogs.

Majority of dogs are lovely and well behaved, but a few aren’t due to rubbish owners.

I do think that there is a time and place for dogs. Most shops are not suitable. Why would anyone think it’s a good idea dragging their dog(s) around the shops instead of taking it for a walk in a park, or even better still leave it at home me whilst you shop?!

Not everyone feels comfortable around dogs for various reasons. The only dogs which should enter shops are official registered assistance dogs, as they are working dogs trained for these situations, not a little yappy dog that may take a shit in middle of the shop (have witness this in past).

i can get why people want to bring dogs into workplace, as it can help alleviate stress for many, but this need to be weighed up against those who aren’t comfortable due to allergies/anxiety. There also need to be consideration to safeguard from risk if you put overexcitable dog into unfamiliar environment with people such as excited young children where there is potential of accidentally biting/injuring child.

There is a time and place for dogs. Owners just need to be considerate and think about whether it is actually appropriate to take dog into a particular environment. They also shouldn’t take offence if a business says no to their dog.

I feel the same about children, running around, screaming, throwing toys and shit everywhere.
75% of people will like my dog, a lot less will like random children.

Yea ‘cos how often do you come home with toddler s**t all over your shoes?! 🙄

In 37 years on this Earth I can't remember having stepped in dog poo more than once or twice in my entire life (and that's being generous). Why is this a regular occurrence for Mumsnetters? If you see poo or human vomit or rubbish on the street, you just step over/around it.

Treesinmygarden · 31/07/2023 01:27

It's really not the dogs that are the issue - it's humans!! Same as it's humans who are responsible for badly behaved children.

Growing up with a pet is hugely important for children - it teaches them care and compassion. I love it that my three adult children all love cats, and seek them out everywhere they go! They love animals in general. We've never had a dog because we worked out of the home fulltime, and now that we WFH we have cats. I wouldn't be averse to the idea sometime; I just love cats more!

Groutyonehereagain · 31/07/2023 01:28

Some people are really awful. There are thieves, murderers, rapists, people who are cruel to animals and children, there are paedophiles, wife beaters. Anything a dog does wrong is the fault of a human.

truthhurts23 · 31/07/2023 01:38

I’m more fond of cats tbh but I like some dogs , I do get jealous that hotels and some public spaces allow dogs but not cats..

Exactly!

How can people on this thread claim all humans contribute to society in some kind of positive way?!? That's just a complete lie. People murder, rape, steal, are deliberately cruel to others. How can this be more positive than a loyal, loving dog who gives warmth to their families or a working dog for that matter?
