God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

I was on my way to a job interview once when an inconsiderate dog owner allowed their dog to jump up at me, leaving muddy paw prints all over my smart trousers.

They thought it was hilarious. Needless to say, I didn't. I was so flustered and stressed by the time I got to the interview, I messed it up completely. It was a job I really wanted and could easily have done too.

Honestly I like dogs and I agree dog owners are a huge problem we were walking today ds is reactive around dogs he doesn't know he will squeal squeak flap and run away or he could walk calmly past its 🤷‍♀️ so we walk past a dog tight path brambles on our side bit of leeway on theirs sheer drop with extra nettles on ours ds begins reacting and it's not subtle you can fucking tell I put him behind me hand on tight his brother guides him forward I pull forward (he tries running backwards too) dickhead owners don't pull their dog back just let him approach on the retractable leash I end up walking with my hand out to distract the dog from him (because the noise attracts the dog) while swinging ds behind me shunting him up the path all the time they are staring letting their dog towards us JUST PULL YOUR FUCKING DOG AWAY DUMBASS ds has been known to lash out I'm obviously being careful of him but some stupid dog owners think everyone loves their dog and he doesn't he just bloody DOESN'T

How can you argue dogs do 'nothing'. To the average dog owner dogs bring happiness, companionship and responsibility.
To someone with health issues they bring so much more!
-therapy dogs (proven to aid with mental illness!)
-medical detection dogs (think dogs that can literally detect when someone is low on blood sugar for example!)
-sniffer & cadaver dogs that detect drugs, bombs, bodies during search and rescue.
-As sad as it is many of the medications, products you take are only available to humans because research was done on animals including dogs.

Most dog owners don't want to stand in dog poo either, or be jumped on by muddy dogs.

When did it become acceptable to be so awful towards every dog owner because of the actions of a few? It's not acceptable to treat any other group of people like this so why dog owners?

So that they can pretend they haven’t been arseholes for not bothering to train their ‘he’s just being friendly!’ Dog.

Cos, y’know, toddlers.

100% This.

These people are exhausting and their houses always smell but they live in denial

poppettypop · 31/07/2023 00:21

I have a dog yet I agree with every word.

I honestly believe people who have the desire and need to control something have dogs. Like their kids have all grown up now I'll get a dog adore my every move, be completely dependent on me, make me feel loved, valued and respected. Or is that just my husband 👀

We just want to give animals a good home. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The sad irony of this thread on AIBU. The one above it right now is about someone in bits over having their dog PTS.
I wonder how many of the dog hating people here would go to that thread at tell OP to get a grip, or that her house will now stop smelling.

People are too good for dogs.

MiniTheMinx · 31/07/2023 00:28

Someone mentioned Hitler had a dog and was vegetarian. Apparently Hitler used to kick and beat his dog Blondie. Then he would break down and beg the dog for forgiveness. So, not all dog people are sane, at least that is known!

I agree too, there are too many dogs, and too many poor owners. There are unscrupulous breeders and unscrupulous foreign rescus selling puppies. The net result is suffering. I would happily pay a dog tax, I already pay for insurance, vets bills, food, a walker, jabs. I try to give my rescue dog a good life, and I train him. I don't allow him to bother people and I clean up after him.

But my main point remains. Many cruelties in this world happen because of so called human rationality we have great intelligence and as animals we have the privilege of outrunning evolution, harnessing and shaping nature, understanding the laws of physics, and the creativity to solve complex problems, and yet our achievements come to nowt when we are destroying our habitat, killing each other, reducing the value of living things purely to economic exchange values. This is why I think that reason is all well and good, but without empathy and love we are nothing better than the lowest of all animals, and yet we are worse still because with our superior reason we have no excuses. That is sociopathic.

And, it's interesting to me that some of the children and adults I've worked with who show sociopathic tendency have all been cruel to animals. It's a known phenomena.

I think also that there are more dogs, but this possibly corresponds with a shift in people towards greater hygiene, greater consumer spending and higher consumption, a shift towards a more individuated, self expressing identifications, towards greater levels of narcism (not clinical) and isolation. Even sex is sanitised in the form of pornograhy.....no need to get dirty, no need to connect, no need to touch another body. I could go on....but the hysteria around "dog spit, arse licking" etc, ...is similar to our squeamishness with other things. We no longer go to Tyburn and watch a hanging, and yet we know that great atrocities happen in our name. We don't go to war on foot with just a sword and a shield and sleep on a pallet with our dogs.

XenoBitch · 31/07/2023 00:29

FFS, dogs are too good for people!

Gettinagoldtoof · 31/07/2023 00:30

Scautish · 31/07/2023 00:06

You’ve totally misread that post.

A dog brings little to no value to human communal life.

why bring a human into it..? There is no human on earth who brings no value.

my point being that it is quite disgusting to hear the counter-argument when someone says ‘a dog brings little value to society’ to make the leap that the person who said that is saying the same as ‘a human who cannot work brings no value to society.’

Does the person who makes that argument seriously believe a human being who relies on others for care is worth the same as a dog…?! Jesus wept. It’s not me who’s got the wrong end of the stick, but you!

Yes. And doesn't actually have to be the case :)

Gettinagoldtoof · 31/07/2023 00:36

PrimitivePerson · 31/07/2023 00:05

I'm not suggesting they bring no value. I'm suggesting they have a LOT of value.

Do you not understand the argument that has been put forward?

person a- dogs bring little value
person b- what about those with learning needs/can’t work…!!?

person b is taking the absolute piss. How dare they bring up a human being with LD and make it about them? This is about dogs. Comparing an actual valuable human being with learning needs/differences to a dog…! It doesn’t exactly help your cause, makes you sound a bit disgusting actually.

isitaline97 · 31/07/2023 00:36

'Their houses always smell'
'They just need something they can control'

This isn't even a legitimate discussion here it's just pure nastiness towards dog owners.

Oatycookies · 31/07/2023 00:37

I love dogs but agree with you.

People with allergies and aversions should not have other people's choices foisted upon them in offices and shops, and eww to dogs in places where food is served.

I wish more dog lovers were as sensible and considerate as you. So many just cannot grasp some are allergic or just plain uncomfortable around their dog. There was one which would come into my former office and I ended up taking a sick day on thanksgiving one year after hearing it was going to be at our office meal 🤢this was before the days wfh was widely available. It was the kind of work “culture” where you had to go along with things or you’d be shunned basically but if that were now I’d probably have spoken up

Couldn't agree more! I'm sick of everywhere being dog friendly! Dogs & there irresponsible owners spoil most places in my opinion!

I don't mind dogs, but I agree they are bloody everywhere. I don't blame the dogs I blame the people who chose to have them as pets then don't try to do a good job of being responsible for them. This week alone I have had big slobbery dogs rush up to me when I am out walking because their owner has them off lead. Then I have the patronising 'oh he won't hurt you'. Thanks, but how do I know that when they are jumping up at me and putting their muddy paws all over me. I am also sick and tired of having to avoid the dog mess.

We stopped off for lunch in the pub yesterday. Of course it was dog friendly so had to put up with a whining, yapping dog throughout our meal.

And tomorrow I will have to sit and listen to what one of my co-workers dog has been up to at the weekend as she shares photos of said dog with me. Every. Single. Day.

😆 love this. I had a co-worker once who was the same, showing me all the pics of her dog. I’d had enough of it. I was polite but when she next said “shall I show you pictures of Fido?” I just said, I’m really sorry, not being rude but I have no interest in dogs, I just can’t get enthusiastic about them so I don’t want to look at the pictures. Problem solved.

Why are people so keen to equate dogs with children?

It’s a sickness honestly.

PSA to dog owners - Your dog is not equal to any human young or old

nalabae · 31/07/2023 00:40

Everyone who agrees with you .. scum.

ivybx · 31/07/2023 00:41

Totally agree and people who compare dogs to children need to get a grip, dogs are animals so there is no comparison at all I find it very strange

LaughOutInTheGrass · 31/07/2023 00:43

Dogs are better than many humans though, because many humans are really awful. I see some of the worst of human behaviour through the work I do.

XelaM · 31/07/2023 00:43

All the evils of the world have been created by humans. Dogs (and animals in general) are amazing creatures - loyal, beautiful, loving. Humans are bloody awful (as demonstrated by this thread). I also feel sorry for kids who are being brought up by these animal-hating, angry people. No wonder so many kids have mental health issues.

My daughter has been brought up with ponies, dogs, cats, guinea pigs, birds, tortoises etc and she's turning into a wonderful compassionate human being who loves all creatures big and small.

Yes it does, a living actually, as far as I am aware I live in a community.

I was countering the argument that was made that dogs don't add value because dogs don't pay tax.

I don't appreciate having something I have said taken out of context and twisted.
