God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

Same with kids for some.

Children don't tend to bite strangers though or shit on the floor or run as fast or bark loudly.

CharlotteBog · 30/07/2023 23:44

Where do you live that people are running and shitting on all the green spaces?

To be fair as someone who lives near a city I have seen a ridiculous amount of puddles of human urine, vomit and shit in alleys and grass areas near pubs

Children don't tend to bite strangers though or shit on the floor or run as fast or bark loudly.

But they can trigger people with sensory issues, especially around noise.
It is particularly hard right now as it is the school holidays.

We’re all uptight for not wanting animals breathing and spitting, spreading their hairs and licking their arses where we eat…?

Do dogs spit? That's camels isn't it?

I have watched dogs eat their own vomit, then repeat, so yes some dogs spit/drool everywhere.

XenoBitch · 30/07/2023 23:50

GADDay · 30/07/2023 23:47

This would be funny if it weren't. There are actual human children starving. Have we all been dropped into a Hunger Games style parallel universe??

Dogs dinner.... indeed.

No child is going without because someone bought their dog a Sunday roast in a pub.

Bentoforthehorde · 30/07/2023 23:50

Almost every dog owner I know has the same attitude to dogs. It's like their brain just puts dogs in the same category as humans, somewhere between children and adults. It seems they can't see this though, so it is nearly impossible to have a rational conversation about it.
There is a sliding scale of entitlement/responsibility etc but for example they genuinely would not see a distinction between their feelings about someone's drooling baby at the table and a person's feelings about their slobbering dog (that may or may not smell and definitely licks it's own arse).
I like dogs, I don't own one because I'm not at a point in my life where I want that particular responsibility and after a decade of dog shit dodging school runs I would in fact happily live in a dog free town if such a thing existed.
Has anyone ever done a study on dog people/cat people to see if there is actually a difference in brain chemistry that makes people anthropomorphize dogs? It would be fascinating if some people really are just wired to enjoy the company of dogs as much/more than the company of other humans.

Finlesswonder · 30/07/2023 23:52

I like dogs and don't own one. I do know what you mean. What bothers me is all these suburban and city dogs. It used to be that most dogs were country dogs living country lives, and you'd get the odd small city dog.
Now my city is packed full of dogs and I don't mind sharing space with them but I think it's bloody sad watching them being trailed along pavements, they probably have homes full of "enrichment toys", I always just wonder whether dogs aren't best off the lead and living in nature, where they have freedom to run around and get involved in big spaces, instead of being kept basically like toddlers and "taken out".

Don't start me on handbag giraffes. That's just cruel.

thats A little unfair - there are loads of people with giraffe handbags round here. At least I think it’s giraffes they’re carrying

Dogs might drool, but they don't spit. Alpacas now, they spit and I think goats might if pressed. Don't press goats if you don't like spit.

Finlesswonder · 30/07/2023 23:55

The other day I was at the hairdressers and a client came in to have her hair done with her dog. Then the owner came in with her dog. Since I like dogs I was happily fawning over them but I did also think...shit you can't even go to a hair salon without being with dogs. I also think it's weird that we've developed such a #bekind ultra triggered society, but it doesn't occur to anyone that maybe there could be lots of people with a phobia or a sensory problem with dogs.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 30/07/2023 23:38

Who are those humans who don’t contribute in amy meaningful way ?

If your yard stick is labour and taxation, then quite a few.

Mine isn't. I don't measure the value of other living things in the same way you appear to.

What value do people with profound lifelong disabilities bring? by your yard stick none.

LittleMissUnreasonable · 30/07/2023 23:57

I like dogs. However I used to live in a terraced house with a small ally between mine and my neighbours house. I was walking down the ally to my front door (front door was around the back) and suddenly this horrible little yapping thing was barking at me from my neighbours gate. Neighbours didn't have a dog so I nearly shat myself as it made me jump. Neighbours daughter appears at the gate smiling dotingly at horrible dog saying "oooh sorry we live rurally so he's not used to people coming close to the house and he's protective".
I was going into my own fucking house, and some random dog who didn't even live there was barking at me to go away. I just remarked that he'd scared the life out of me and neighbours daughter tinkley laughed and carried on looking at the dog like he was the second coming of Christ.

well yes. During lockdown there was a huge problem with humans shitting everywhere because public loos were closed.

Very good point. If you measure worth and value solely by productivity, the logical conclusion to that is wholesale slaughter of "unworthy" people.

I'll stop before I end up invoking Godwin.

Nellynoowhoareyou · 31/07/2023 00:00

@Orteul it sounds like other than the environmental and literal evils of the pet industry, trade and dog crap, it’s probably the owners you have beef with (!). Same as with kids: train them and look after them properly and they’re far less bothersome. They are fucking pointless and their entitled owners are the pits. But a fair few of them are bloody cute. Maybe it’s time you stopped protesting so much and got a dog? 😆

Gettinagoldtoof · 31/07/2023 00:01

Clarabe1 · 30/07/2023 23:40

Well bloody said 👏

Really? They contribute to your enjoyment of life and they take away from mine.

Yes I can see a cute well-behaved dog and pet the dog and wash my hands afterwards. But do I want a dog on the bus, sat on a seat opposite me? In a restaurant? Barking at me as I walk down the street? Jumping up at me? Licking me? Owners just benignly grinning? NO!

This is entirely the fault of shitty owners not training their dogs. So many disgusting shit-leaving owners around; the dogs can’t help but be basically incontinent their whole life, what is the owners excuse for not picking up the shit... And people who think it’s ok to bring a dog into places we eat food. Honestly, get your heads around it. Dogs are not clean. They eat shit and vomit, then lick their owner’s face, then lick their arse. They try to sleep in the bed of the owner, and often the owner will let them, the smell… argh it’s so awful, only you dog owners just don’t know it, your homes all smell! It’s seriously fucking disgusting to treat a dog as a human, and if dog owners would get this they might begin to understand what the rest of us have to put up with.

I love my friends and family who have profound learning needs and will need care for their whole lives. How dare you suggest they bring no value? That is so sick.

I'm not suggesting they bring no value. I'm suggesting they have a LOT of value.

Are you serious? You think a dog’s spit doesn’t go all over the place?

I have literally seen dogs vomit, eat it and then be sick again, probably to repeat the cycle had I not intervened.

And dogs do spit, they hack up, usually when their hairs are caught in their throats. It’s fucking disgusting watching an animal eat its own arse then hack up and spit out wherever it happens to hack up and spit.

I feel the same about children, running around, screaming, throwing toys and shit everywhere.
75% of people will like my dog, a lot less will like random children.

I completely agree.

LittleMissUnreasonable · 31/07/2023 00:06

Especially the ones who don't come into work because their dog isn't well or needs to go the vets.! @nhsteabags

Well of course, what do you expect!?.. Them to just leave there pet home alone suffering without getting vet treatment😒. You don't even have to be an animal lover to realise that's basic level compassion

If businesses/buses allow dogs then that is nothing to do with dog owners. It is just business sense. People who bring a dog into a place that serves food, do so because it is allowed. The owners don't mind. If you don't like it, then go somewhere else. There are still more dog free options than dog friendly.

I do not understand people who are against dogs on public transport. Not everyone drives! And dogs still need to get to vets, or visit family.

Humans are not clean either. We don't need to lick each other's arseholes to gather information like dogs do... some people do it for fun.
I have a dog, and I guess my house smells. I also know people without dogs who have a stinky house too.

lavenderlou · 31/07/2023 00:08

You don't have to dislike animals, or even dogs, to be fed up with how many of them there are around all the time or to be frustrated that some people equate dogs with humans. I don't personally dislike dogs - I like many of the dogs I know. That doesn't mean I want to encounter them every time I go for a walk or to the shops or out for a meal. The more dogs there are around, the more chance of meeting a poorly-trained one who jumps up at you or tries to take your food (both have happened to me, more than once).

Most of the nicest, best-behaved dogs I know are those whose owners take them for walks on-lead and leave them at home if they are going out to eat or shop.
