God I am bored of dogs

And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

Dogs are everywhere nowadays.

Good!

Time4achange2 · 30/07/2023 22:58

UK has returned to 15 years ago with an over population of dogs, thanks to Covid lockdown and increased demand for 'a companion' pet to justify exercise/ getting out the house legally, the mass import of semi feral foreign street dogs and the economic crisis.

Greeders and dodgy rescues had a field day through Covid but it is the dogs who are now paying the price. Unsocialised, young dogs being relinquished or dumped in their thousands as folk return to the work places or struggle to afford dog food and/ or the horrifically increased vet bills.

Dogs are being destroyed as there are no rescue places or adopters coming forward.

There should be a one year ban on breeding and importing to give rescues breathing space.

We are saturated in canine misery.

Clarabe1 · 30/07/2023 22:58

God there are some vile people on this thread. I can’t do with bloody noisy kids running around, I liked it when kids spoke when they were spoken to but I show tolerance and understand that we are all different. That’s what is lacking on MN sometimes - a complete lack of tolerance. If you don’t want to eat in a cafe which is dog friendly then find one where dogs aren’t allowed. The world does not revolve around you and what you want. Miserable sods. I would rather be friends with a dog than half the miserable arsed people on this thread. For some people their dog is their everything - be kind. And no I don’t have a dog but I do have empathy. A dog environmentally unfriendly - oh do fuck off talking pious crap.

Came here to say this. Its normalised in our culture to prefer dogs to humans but it is very disturbing when you take a minute to think about it.

its Not at all. It’s disturbing you can’t see the unique depravity in humans which does not exist in other animal species.

no other species has caused the misery or cruelty that we have has humans. We are the most devious, nasty, evil creatures that exist on this planet (by a country mile)

humans are the worst thing that ever happened to this planet.

tillyandmilly · 30/07/2023 22:59

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

kitsuneghost · 30/07/2023 23:00

YANBU. We should be getting rid, not encouraging. So bad for the environment and contribute nothing.

Clarabe1 · 30/07/2023 23:00

Well bloody said @Scautish. it’s not dogs who start wars and wreck the environment- it’s people.

Campingsuperstar · 30/07/2023 23:01

Our local has been dog friendly since forever and the dogs used to be old Staffies, black labs, a comedy Dane and the odd terrier. All well behaved and calm and no bother. Now it’s full of neurotic trendy small things with major aggression issues. The owners are a bit neurotic too and a bit ineffectual. It doesn’t look much fun! I don’t take mine to the pub but in walks they get complimented on their excellent behaviour and a rather enjoy this but really it just means they stay with me, sit when they should, don’t approach others and are calm. It’s a pretty low bar.

I pick up litter in the park and other dog poo which weirdly is grosser than your own dog’s shit. I also chase those who are too cool to collect their dog shit and offer bags before becoming more challenging. I love dog friendly places but would like to see more people friendly ones

Annaboo3 · 30/07/2023 23:01

“I liked it when kids spoke when they were spoken to” but calls other people vile and miserable? 😂

@DoristheDuchess I think most of the dogs in prams are elderly. It’s the only way their owners can take them out and I’m sure they take them out of the pram periodically. Otherwise the poor dog would be stuck at home and their owners would never get to have a day out no?

Nope, the last 3 dogs in prams I saw were not elderly by any means, but one was overweight so clearly needed exercise, not to be pushed around in a pram. The owners were fussing around it like a baby. I was very very sad for the dog, it wasn't in the best interests of the animal by any means.

This.

My best friend has a buggy for her elderly dog. She can walk a bit, but her owners still like to go on long walks. This way, her dog can still join them. She loves a sausage in the cafes they visit.
She sends me daily photos of her dog enjoying her "walk". It brings light to my dark days.

It's only on MN that I've encountered people who don't appear to like animals. I don't trust people who dislike animals. They are the real sociopaths.

I like animals I just don’t want them at shops, cafes and cinemas with me.

Clarabe1 · 30/07/2023 23:03

@Annaboo3 the difference is I know that’s me and my preference so I keep my mouth shut and say nothing. I also don’t start threads being provocative and attacking others.

Dibblydoodahdah · 30/07/2023 23:04

I went to Battersea Power Station today
and there was a ridiculous amount of
dogs there in the shops. Not all of them
were behaving. One woman was struggling to control her large dog in the Apple
store.

I have a severe allergy to dogs and have been hospitalised on several occasions due to asthma attacks after coming into contact with dogs. Shopping is no longer a fun activity for me…just stress that a dog is going to come near me.

Gettinagoldtoof · 30/07/2023 23:04

MiniTheMinx · 30/07/2023 21:20

I have to ask do you iron your knickers and socks? How often do you buff the floors and polish your door handles?

We’re all uptight for not wanting animals breathing and spitting, spreading their hairs and licking their arses where we eat…?! Are you for real? Shall we have squirrels in pizza shops? Rats in the pub? Giraffes in a cafe? Ffs.

I have known some very good dog owners in the past, their dogs are working dogs. They are obedient and never, ever in restaurants! Gross

lochmaree · 30/07/2023 23:04

my SIL treats her dog like a literal human baby. Started off when she didn't have any human babies but she's now got a human baby too and continues to treat the dog like a child. insists that it is her child's sibling, is a cousin to our kids, etc. the dog isn't very well trained as its not being treated like a dog, so is a pain to be around.

Feel so strongly for you, this is so shit. It’s not on, we shouldn’t have to dodge animals everywhere we go.

Yanbu. I love the idea of a dog tax - it can be used to pay for cleaning up dog bins, dog attack victims and dog mess in parks.

I saw a dog sitting on a bench with its owner this week, it was really unpleasant. Chairs and benches are for humans, mutts should be on the ground.

Are you aware that birds don't avoid benches when shitting? A bench in a park should be assumed to be filthy anyway.

ClareBlue · 30/07/2023 23:07

This is his mum warning him about all the out of control dogs in the world. It's a serious keasson for him.

They bring pleasure and are good for reducing stress and controlling blood pressure- might be worth having a think @Orteul as seems you could do with some help in that respect 😁

They have the exact opposite effect on me.

Ah you still don’t understand. I am not sure why as I used simple English.

Let me try again. I am not berating pet-owners for contributing to climate change. I am sure they don’t intend to do so, and many of us are not perfect. I am berating pet-owners who preach to others about it. That’s the hypocrisy.

Understand now?

"And people who preach about the environment are often pet-owning hypocrites, who are contributing to climate change by having carnivorous canines at home. Selfish."

They were your exact words. I understand exactly what you were saying, I was just pointing out that parents who berate dog owners for contributing to climate change are even more hypocritical.

DO guide dogs not breath or shed hair then?

Do dogs spit? That's camels isn't it?

LaughOutInTheGrass · 30/07/2023 23:11

I see, what kind of food do you feed them? I read dogs can have a lot of non-meat in the diet (not like cats).

We buy meat from an apparently ‘ethical butcher’, it’s not easy for me being vegan but my partner eats meat and he buys the best he can to provide for our dogs and cats whilst trying to make sure the meat came from animals that at least got some quality of life, spent time outside, done things natural to their species etc. It still feels grim.

Our dogs have lots of fruit/veg too, all local food. The cats would die without meat. We have rabbits, cats, dogs, chickens, sheep, goats, 2 donkeys. In the past we’ve had pigs, turkeys, horses, we’ve even had tortoises and snakes left us by people who just dump them. It’s heartbreaking. Humans are a bit shit really!
