And they are everywhere. Obviously barking and shitting which is annoying anyway. But also running and shitting around every tiny bit of green space in cities so that no one else can use these places apart from dog owners. Even when you go to a pub or café half the time these days it's "dog friendly" (why do we all have to be fucking "friendly" btw? "Tolerant" I could at least understand). You can't escape the fucking things. At work we even have dullards cacking on about how they want "office dogs" - nightmare as far as I'm concerned and really if you're going to be accommodating people's personal life at work surely a fucking crèche would be a higher pissing priority. Pet dogs don't even do anything. They literally just exist so that people can have pet dogs. Why the fuck are they suddenly everywhere?

I have severe asthma which is steroid controlled and am very allergic to animal fur, some worse than others. I've had three asthma attacks in my life after being in confined spaces with dogs. Once was in the nursing home where I worked, which was very hot and as it was winter there was no ventilation. A lady bought in six dogs from a rescue centre for the residents to see. The smell of their fur was so intense in the heat that it triggered an asthma attack. No one even noticed or batted an eye lid when I had to go outside short of breath and take about twenty puffs of my inhaler, as they were too busy looking at the dogs! Another time in the pub, a man bought in his long haired German Shephered which was soaking wet from getting caught in a down pour, its fur really stank and after about half an hour I really did have a full blown asthma attack and my partner who'd luckily only had one pint had to drive me to A& E where I was given steroids and a nebuliser. So I'm completely with you there, I don't like dogs!

Dogs are fabulous. I've never met one I didn't love. People however....

Do we tax dogs yet ? We should. £24 per month per dog to cover provision of dog bins and cleaning up their messes when the owners fail to do so, and a pot for insurance to pay out a lot of money to victims of dog attacks.

Oh piss off. Why dont we tax parents more for all the mess and damage their kids do, and an extra pot when someones little darlings stab or beat some one up.

Cock right off. Most kids grow up to work and contribute, pay your pension, serve your coffee, serve their country, contribute meaningfully. Whereas most dogs simply contribute piss to lamp posts, and contribute shit to pavements. So tax luxury pet dogs to account for the social cost of their excremental externalities and the ones who go off piste and tear people apart with their fangs. Tax dogs now. £24/mo per dog, £36 for big dogs. Mandatory chip to verify. No chip => toodleoo cockapoo. Not paid the tax => ciao chihuahua.

Agree with you Op. I’ve had dogs in the past but am so fed up with them now. Well not the dogs more the owners who think everyone loves their dog as much as they do.
Saw one woman with a very large dog sit next to a table with a baby in a high chair. Dog kept putting his dribbling face right next to the baby, baby would cry, parents trying to move high chair and quite rightly giving the woman dirty look, so woman then comes to sit on the table next to me and says loudly “you don’t mind me sitting here do you”. I said “as long as your dog doesn’t put his face near me, it will be fine”. She stomped off out of the place thank god.

Yes I do. Same as litter.

We have a beach nearby and the amount of poo and litter left each day is disgusting.

Here's the litter I picked up on a dog walk recently.

I pick up litter every day as I walk my dog.

Sometimes on the beach I find discarded dirty nappies. I pick those up to.

Also the amount of headlines I see where a dog has harmed or even killed a young child or baby. It’s unbelievable. And yet they’re “man’s best friend”. Hmmm.

I do wonder about how vegans/vegetarians work it out, buying a carnivore. Any veggies with dogs care to comment?

I’m vegan. I don’t buy dogs. We own an animal rescue centre taking in injured and abused animals.

I see, what kind of food do you feed them? I read dogs can have a lot of non-meat in the diet (not like cats).

RestingMurderousFace · 30/07/2023 22:52

Some dogs are aresholes but at least they can’t type.

Ah you see I don’t preach to others. There is the hypocrisy you see. I have heard pet-owners berate others who aren’t vegetarian etc. Let me know if you need a more detailed explanation.

I wasn't preaching, either. Merely pointing out that a parent berating dog owners for contributing to climate change is massively hypocritical.

PrimitivePerson · 30/07/2023 22:52

As well as my fear of dogs, contact with dog hair gives me a very nasty skin reaction and makes me sneeze for ages.

On the first page!!!

Dog = animal
Child = human

Humans are more important than dogs and it is deeply concerning when there are people who don't understand that.

Came here to say this. Its normalised in our culture to prefer dogs to humans but it is very disturbing when you take a minute to think about it.

Well the response will be that the baby was asking for it and that the poor, poor doggy was defending itself from the nasty, human baby.

The dog mess just really gets me down. The parks always, and i mean always have some lying around. If dog lovers/owners could just pick up one extra poo each walk, it would surely dampen the antipathy from many people.

That said, I know people who earned over £7000 from a Lab litter this year, and I can see why it’s tempting to keep doing it.

I do wonder about how vegans/vegetarians work it out, buying a carnivore. Any veggies with dogs care to comment?

I am vegetarian although I was not when we adopted the dog.
I feed her her meat, it can be a bit grim and I hate the smell but I just do it. I am fully aware that animals eat other animals both in the wild and domesticated so just get on with it.

How do the figures compare with murders, stabbings, assaults, etc. by humans?

AnxiousFairyQueen · 30/07/2023 22:55

@DoristheDuchess I think most of the dogs in prams are elderly. It’s the only way their owners can take them out and I’m sure they take them out of the pram periodically. Otherwise the poor dog would be stuck at home and their owners would never get to have a day out no?

Ha! I knew a mixed breed who ate potatoes raw.

Ah you still don’t understand. I am not sure why as I used simple English.

Let me try again. I am not berating pet-owners for contributing to climate change. I am sure they don’t intend to do so, and many of us are not perfect. I am berating pet-owners who preach to others about it. That’s the hypocrisy.

Understand now?

You say that but then most adults find it totally normal to drink another species breastmilk and would find it abhorrent to drink their own species breastmilk. Maybe we should milk dogs if they’re that good and put dogmilk on our shreddies.

cherryade8 · 30/07/2023 22:57

Yanbu. I love the idea of a dog tax - it can be used to pay for cleaning up dog bins, dog attack victims and dog mess in parks.

I saw a dog sitting on a bench with its owner this week, it was really unpleasant. Chairs and benches are for humans, mutts should be on the ground.

Shall we leave dogs in charge then? Do they really have the higher cognitive abilities to run a country, perform operations and educate kids? No?

These comparisons are just so so stupid.
