One Chin Hair?

Why does this happen? I am 38 and every now and again I will suddenly get one long coarse hair on my chin?

Presumably something hormonal - but what? Perimenopause?

Is late thirties not a bit young to be growing a whisker?!

Soon it will be joined by several other sporadic buddies. Completely normal for 38 I'm afraid! I keep tweezers in the car for traffic light plucking.

I've had a chin hair since my teens! Suspect PCOS so yeah, hormones. Be glad you've escaped it this long!

I get one on my nipple, not exactly sure when it started but it gets more pube like every time it grows back and will grow forever if I don’t get round to plucking it!

I’d like to know too! I’m a couple of years older than you and have been having one stray coarse hair on my chin for the last few years…

Haha! Yes I tweeze it out, how does it get so big and long seemingly instantly? One on the chin, right at the bottom. Why?!

I went for electrolysis because i just didnt want the chore of plucking chin hairs.

I’m 45 and have about six now. 4 are black and 2 are white.

I check myself every day and pluck in the morning.

Sometimes they ‘appear’ as about 1cm long (I guess they’ve been trapped or in-growing and suddenly break free.

One of Mother Nature’s blessings is that, with increased age your eyesight also deteriorates, so you don’t notice as much! I remember being a young teacher in my 20’s sat across from a parent (at parents evening) with a similar number of 1cm course chin hairs and being horrified she hadn’t plucked them.

I’m probably her now.

You just haven't spotted the others yet.

Go for a face and eyebrow wax (not threading, I'm not that evil). Every oooh, that stung, is a long, black (or white) hair.

My ONE hair is on my right cheek. Nothing there and poof! Half inch of pube suddenly appears. I left it for a week once. Such a rebel

They seem to grow from 2mm to 2cm in like 24 hours. How the hell…!

I used to have one for years and then it just disappeared. Hormones are such fickle things.

I don't have tweezers but feel I may need to invest in some now. It's so bizarre!

Good news is, once you are through menopause, they are slower to grow. I can’t say they disappear completely but they are less frequent.

I have one on my neck that grows a million feet long in about 5 minutes it seems. Nothing there, nothing there, oh hell it's enormous and always when I'm in the office. Keep tweezers on you at all times.

Yeh exactly!! I've been plucking my chin hairs (and nipple hairs!) for years. Those damn dark hairy Mediterranean genes from my mother.

If you’ve managed this long without tweezers you’re doing well (don’t buy cheap ones… they don’t get the buggers!).

OMG. You need a sharp pointed tweezer Eg tweezerman and a x 15 mirror (also tweezerman) asap. Not for nothing is this known as the scary mirror in my house

You're lucky it's only 1. I am early 30's and have been plucking hairs from my chin since i was mid - late 20's. No PCOS.

I'm also 38 and this past year I'm getting loads of coarse dark hairs on my chin. I'm guessing I'm headed towards perimenopause. When the little one is in the bath I grab the mirror and pluck away.

My son is 14 and he and I seem to be sprouting beards at the same rate right now

Yes! I’m early forties and I keep finding the same one every now and again.
it seems to grow so long overnight…
