One Chin Hair?

FryTheEggs · 30/07/2023 19:45

Why does this happen? I am 38 and every now and again I will suddenly get one long coarse hair on my chin?

Presumably something hormonal - but what? Perimenopause?

Is late thirties not a bit young to be growing a whisker?!

How have you got to 38 and only had one chin hair?! I don’t have PCOS but still had several that need to be plucked since my early 30s

I have tweezers downstairs, upstairs in my bedroom and bathroom, in the car, and in my bag as one of the bathrooms at work has amazing lighting which shows up loads of the fuzzy little buggers!

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 30/07/2023 21:10

Only the one? 🤣
I’m early-40s and have had chin hairs and a tache and a beard since my teens, all linked to PCOs, so hormonal. Can confirm the car mirror is the best place to tackle them, just don’t do it in a crowded Tesco car park…

Also you've reached late 30s without owning a pair of tweezers??!

But hang on what is everyone else tweezing? Do most people tweeze their eyebrows?

I thought a lot of folks had stopped tweezing and waxing was the most popular for brows?

I don't tweeze anything, my eyebrows are just kinda there hanging out Grin I like the shape as they do have a nice arch but they're definitely not dark enough so I did get them tinted once. It washed out after a couple of showers and I felt ripped off tbh.

Then I forgot about my eyebrows again. Which I feel is a mistake because sophisticated eyebrows can really frame your face, I just dunno what to do with them.

I don't tweeze my eyebrows no (nothing can be done about these huge black slugs) but I have random unwanted wiry hairs on my face, upper lip, ear lobes, around nipples, belly button, etc etc the list goes on, I can't live without tweezers and have always owned them since a teen! I don't remove every hair but the odd one just gets too prominent and I notice people staring at the wrong bit of my face when I'm talking lol.

You must have a skin/constitution like my mum's and just not get hairy...?

CrystalPalaceAlice · 30/07/2023 21:13

Just the one hair, which is nothing compared to the full beard that you could well grow when you hit meno.

HelloChompy · 30/07/2023 21:16

Ha - I mourn the days I just had the one 😅 (I'm 46 now)

Gamerlady · 30/07/2023 21:22

I'm 42 and had chin hair since early 20s .. I shave my chin every day as they grow that quickly.. I have tried tweezers and wax but find them painful so it's easier just to shave

NoraButty · 30/07/2023 21:25

What is it with chin hairs that even when you get lucky and pull the root out with the hair, they still grown back by Tuesday

CaramelicedLatte · 30/07/2023 21:28

My first one sprouted pretty much on my 30th birthday. So bloody rude.

I tweeze them, but I’ve realise my peach fuzz is also bloody awful as I get older (still in my 30s!) so I get dermaplaning every 6-8 weeks too. It’s doing wonders for acne scarring too.

Just ONE? Be grateful 😆

Came to say this.
yabu to be upset about just one. I had one when I was 21. Now I pluck 10 a day. 38.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 30/07/2023 21:33

I am 43 and have 1 on my left cheek & 1 under my chin & also need to invest in tweezers for the first time.

B72 · 30/07/2023 21:46

I started off with just one on my chin, now my chin resembles a Brillo pad.
I shave my chin more than my husband shaves his!

TokyoSushi · 30/07/2023 21:56

I have two, one on my chin which needs plucking about every 10 days or so. Like others, one minute it's not there and the next it appears about a centimetre long, it seems so have a deep root so you can actually pull it right out of your face!

The other is an odd one, on my cheek, much finer and only appears about every 6 months, this is a special one, not there, and then literally about an inch long! 😳

Dancingbea · 30/07/2023 22:06

I am 47 and have had the same one since I was 23, which appeared around the same time I took quite a strong Eastern European morning after pill - probably a complete coincidence! Realise I am lucky it’s just the one but it is bizarre that it has been the same one for more than 2 decades.

Narwhaleahoy · 30/07/2023 22:15

Thank you everyone. Thanks to this thread I have just spent the last half hour obsessively examining my face with DH’s shaving mirror. No loooong hairs but when does peach fuzz become gooseberry prickles? Worried. Should I shave anyway or will that just encourage a beard?
I asked DH’s opinion and he helpfully pointed out a nasal hair. I now need help regrouping the patio if anyone is free tomorrow 😂

Get a Phillips Lumia, I've just got the most basic model and am completely chin hair free now :)

This is the one I've got too, genuinely life-improving gadget! It says to use it every 2 weeks but it's worked so well I only use it about 5 times a year now. Worth every penny

Lordlanky · 30/07/2023 22:27

I have had a really fine hair growing out from the middle of my forehead, on and off for years. Its one of those ones that you can barely see but I check regularly because once I know it's there, then I have to eradicate it instantly! I also now have darker hairs in my moustache and white but thick and shiny hairs growing off the bottom of my chin, just in the last 6 months. I feel my metamorphosis into goat is nearly complete

I got rid with electroloysis. Took a year and a half of monthly visits. Got zero now.
Completed it 5years ago.

Soon it will be joined by several other sporadic buddies. Completely normal for 38 I'm afraid! I keep tweezers in the car for traffic light plucking.

Don't do it in the car! My friend was told off by a policeman who spotted her brushing her hair whilst waiting for the lights to change.

imapterodactyl · 30/07/2023 22:33

It'll have friends waiting to join it OP, so sorry.

I've had chin hair since my twenties but now I'm in my forties I have to tweeze every bloody day. Some are dark but most are white and so bristly. Best of all was buying a light up magnifying mirror. It turns out that I have about 1/2 inch of fluff going on too. No PCOS as far as I know but probably peri...

I dermaplaned a few times which was great for the fluff. Epilating was good for the coarse ones. I really need to up my game. Maybe a full face shave daily will do the trick 😭

AutumnalPumpkin · 30/07/2023 22:35

I'm 22... you're lucky your chin hair friends have waited so long to say hello 😆 mine like to pop up at inconvenient times

lap90 · 30/07/2023 20:02

You're lucky it's only 1. I am early 30's and have been plucking hairs from my chin since i was mid - late 20's. No PCOS.

Could've written this myself!

Ginmonkeyagain · 30/07/2023 22:44

Just the one hair! laughs in Mediterranean ancestry.

I have maternal ancestry from what Jeffrey Eugenides memorably termed "the mediterranean hairbelt". My tweezers, magnifying mirror and my razor are always nearby.

msmonstera · 30/07/2023 22:47

One?! I had four in my twenties. At forty, I have about twelve of them. I now have bag tweezers as well as bathroom mirror tweezers.
Does anyone know what makes them grow overnight?!
