For me it’s BBC’s 1995 Pride and Prejudice. Absolute perfection, I wouldn’t change a thing!

Firefly
Friends- perfect comfort viewing and still funny after so may rewatches
With caveats: Game of Thrones (up to Season 7) & The Office US (until Michael left).

I like the first few seasons of things and then lose interest a bit. So the first 2-3 seasons of Buffy, Orphan Black, Frasier, Futurama, Friends, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul.

Clearly I will need to look out for the Detectorists.

Succession, the writing, the acting, the music, sublime
Fleabag (the restaurant episode in the second series blows my mind
The Detectorists
ER
Frasier

I cried when we finished the last episode of Ted Lasso, just so funny and heart-warming and amazing characters.

Catsmere · 29/07/2023 02:40

Oh and Black Books.

Loved the early ER but not the later ones.

Sycasmores · 29/07/2023 03:11

If we had categories then surely Outlander would win for best sex scenes in a series. Sadly they also went in for some truly disturbing scenes....we didn't need to see it!

I thought Ted Lasso was cringeworthy, the titular actor was great but the supporting cast were awful esp the blonde woman with zero clue how to add any depth to her acting character

The Haunting of Hill House.
Golden Girls
In Living Colour
Joan Hickson Miss Marple
Poirot

Rolypolyfishheads · 29/07/2023 05:54

Tipping The Velvet. Perfect story, casting and everything 😃

Ponoka7 · 29/07/2023 07:40

I agree with a lot of these. If we are going back to the 70's, Porridge. Re crime I'd add Vera and Broadchurch. I'm watching Suspects on my 5, that and ITV X has had some great stuff, especially as it's free, Unforgotten, the Bay and Trigger point hasn't had a mention. The Vikings (re shown on prime) is fantastic.

mondaytosunday · 29/07/2023 08:10

Oh LOVED that version of P&P! Watched it over and over. Also Brideshead Revisited. I used the theme music in my wedding.
More recently Money Heist (Spanish, on Netflix) - OMG that was excellent!

mondaytosunday · 29/07/2023 08:12

Reading through some of these - yes agree West Wing was excellent and have recently rewatched it with my daughter and even got a Bartlett for President sweatshirt printed.
The US version of House of Cards was amazing too.

Ditto to P&P and the Joan Hickson Miss Marples, but more recently I’d say The Detectorists.
And Last Tango In Halifax.

A subtitled French series we became absolutely hooked on was Spiral (Engrenages) - Parisian police drama, masses of episodes. Excellent, and apparently shown in France only on a subscription channel - maybe not on national TV because it didn’t always portray French officialdom in a good light.
