...to hate Miele?

I am attempting to call out an engineer under the extended warranty scheme. This is the fifth or sixth time the wretched thing has broken down in the last three or four years.

First I called John Lewis for the reference, and they put me through to Miele. After 20 mins, the phone went dead. Rang back, and after a further 20 mins got through to a call handler who needed to check my policy number, she said.Ten minutes later, the phone went dead again.

So frustrating. My Miele vacuum also broke down after 18 months.I am careful with my stuff and always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

I buy the best quality I can afford but it won't be Miele next time. They have an out of date pandemic related message on their holding thing as well. Seriously unimpressed.

Is Bosch any better? My old faithful washing machine will also need replacing soon...

Sorry should say this is the dishwasher

For a washing machine I would get an Ebac. I love mine. Made in the UK and when you call up there are two options and then someone answers the phone. The machine is the best I've ever had too. It's much better than my last one which was a super fancy auto dose thing.

I don't know but I am marking my place. I always thought Miele and Bosch were the best but I balk at the prices.

I'm in the market for a new washing machine and fridge and if anyone can recommend either I will be eternally grateful.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 28/07/2023 17:22

No Miele are utter crap. Had built in nespresso machine, steam ovens, fridges, dishwashers. Would never buy another again, all broke down, cost ££££’s and miele were ages repairing them.
Now i go out of my way to avoid buying anything from them.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/07/2023 17:23

I hate my mega expensive Miele washing machine. I loved my old one that was 20 years old. I have heard before the quality and customer service has really gone down hill.

All Bosch I have had have been very good, and easy to repair externally.

Freysimo · 28/07/2023 17:24

I had excellent service from Miele within the 5 year warranty, pre pandemic though.

All issues were within 1/2 yrs of purchase and pre pandemic.

Undecicive · 28/07/2023 17:27

My Miele washing machine is 15 years old. it might be the good, old model. Dyson's definitely gone diwnhill in quality.

HotelNotPortofino · 28/07/2023 17:29

I went off Miele when I tried to buy a new fridge door seal for the unusual sized FF that previous owners bought, and altered kitchen to fit.
Miele rep cheerily announced they don’t sell door seals, I’d need a whole new door, at only £1000.

I replaced the kitchen- eventually. Was almost cheaper 😆

Zhougzhoug · 28/07/2023 17:29

A mid-range Bosch (or the best Bosch in your budget) has never let us down.

Headunderthecovers · 28/07/2023 17:34

Washing machine and dryer over 20 years old and never had an issue.
Dishwasher has been fixed several times over 10+ years, but still going- wouldn't buy another Miele dishwasher.

I do like the idea of buying for longevity, but not quite sure all Miele products as equally well made.

MissDollyMix · 28/07/2023 17:38

Oh this is disappointing/ I’m planning on getting a Miele vacuum soon.
Not a big fan of Bosch since our Bosch dishwasher only lasted 18 months. Repair guy said it was a common fault with Bosch’s and the quality has gone massively down hill since they stopped building in Europe.

CatherinedeBourgh · 28/07/2023 17:39

I'm happy with my Samsung washing machine, but haven't had to use the customer support so don't know what they're like. My previous one was an LG which was also excellent, I had to leave it behind when I moved but it was still going strong after many years.

Bluevelvetsofa · 28/07/2023 17:39

Controversial, but we have Beko. In fact, several. Dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, small garage freezer and cordless vacuum.

The dishwasher before was Zanussi, integrated and installed by the house developer. Rubbish! I doubt any of the houses have them now. At the time, the choice in an integrated dishwasher, was Beko or Miele at nearly £1000.

The washing machine replaced a Samsung that disintegrated just out of warranty.

Onynx · 28/07/2023 17:40

My previous Miele bagless vacuum was great- until the plastic part of the handle cracked/broke. It was only 6 months old. I got absolutely nowhere with their 'customer service'- they told me they didn't have any replacement parts as the product was too new to the market and 'it shouldn't have happened' so soon anyway!'

tt9 · 28/07/2023 17:40

oh dear... recently installed a new kitchen - every single thing apart from washer dryer is miele... I am scared now.

😥

I love our Miele Vacuums, I have one which is 19 years old and another which is other 10, brilliant things.

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 28/07/2023 17:46

We inherited the washer, dryer and dishwasher from previous owners, all Miele. We still have the 10+ year old dishwasher. The 25 year old washing machine did us two more years (and cleaned fantastically) before dying so we replaced it with another Miele two years ago. Use it three times a day and no issues yet!! It does sound like quality must've gone downhill unfortunately!

Words · 28/07/2023 17:47

Wow, thanks everyone. My washing machine is an ancient Zanussi which has rarely gone wrong but sense it won't last much longer.

The Miele dishwasher has been absolutely shocking.

It seems everything is poorer quality, including support, these days. But please keep positive experiences coming! I think back in the day Bosch and Miele were the best but maybe Re no longer worth the price. The dishwasher was the most expensive I have ever bought and also the worst performing.

Interesting about Beko. I used a Beko range cooker in a holiday cottage recently and was impressed by how well designed it was, and, crucially, very easy to clean.

Off to research Ebac too. ( sounds a bit gynaecological! Grin)

The problem with threads like this is you're only ever going to get a series of anecdotes from a pre-selected group, it's not exactly a JDPower survey.
Here are mine. We have an industrial Miele dishwasher at work, used weekly at 95°C for the past 35 years and it's still going strong and no repairs in that time. We have a 15 year old AEG dishwasher, never missed a beat. 12 year old Miele vacuum cleaner, also great. John Lewis washer dryer, 11 years before the bearings got too noisy
Make of that what you will.

Noodlewave · 28/07/2023 17:59

Bonus anecdote, Dsis had a Miele washing machine that kept breaking down.

Our Bosch fridge freezer was with us for 13 years and we only got rid of it because we reconfigured the kitchen and it wouldn’t fit the new space. I now have the Smeg I lusted after for 30+ years.
