Depending on the year car you are looking at ford had loads of problems with their powershift gearbox as well as the 1.0 ecoboost engine

ohsuzannah · 26/07/2023 14:19

My Peugeot 3008 has them.

I recommend looking at car reviews by carwow (Matt Watson) very very honest and helpful!

BigFloppa · 26/07/2023 14:34

I have a 67 plate focus titanium 1.5 ecoboost automatic. It's a brilliant car! It really goes when you put your foot down ans is lovely to drive. It has all the bells and whistles. Reversing camera, self park, auto lights, auto dimming high beam, auto wipers, keyless entry.

CornishGem1975 · 26/07/2023 14:39

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, touch a Ford Ecoboost. I am a Ford devotee but I cannot stress this enough. They're not called Ecoboom for no reason. If anyone needs to know why joined the Facebook group. The wet belt problem with these Ecoboost engines is awful, and when it goes POP, you're buying a new engine or scraping your car. Ford will sometimes offer assistance but you have to have full Ford Service History. I made the mistake of buying one, started to have some issues, Ford told me it needed a whole new engine and so I got the garage to take it back.

Anyway, back to original question - I have had Hyundai's and Volvo's with auto lights.

LookItsMeAgain · 26/07/2023 15:01

My Skoda Fabia has daytime running lights, and automatic lights too. Not automatic transmission but if you can find one that is, I only have good things to say about that car!

billyt · 26/07/2023 15:20

The issue with the Ecoboost was that they used a plastic tube for the coolant. When this tube got hot (as you'd expect) it solidified and cracked. The coolant then gushed out and by the time you knew about it, it was too late. They have since changed the design.

I had a 2013 Focus S with the 1.0l eco boost engine. The above happened to me but Ford replaced the engine without blinking. Lovely car to drive, nippy as hell and comfortable.

wwyd2021medicine · 26/07/2023 15:25

Automatic lights now mandatory. Since 2021 I believe

Iizzyb · 26/07/2023 15:29

Volvo v40 has the same type of heated windscreen as a focus as I'm told they had the same owners for a time (no idea if this is true). Also has auto headlights but not windscreen wipers.

Reviews criticised the back window as it's shallower than the focus or the golf but it's absolutely fine for backing into spaces etc. Volvo was bought to replace a golf which I hated & felt like it always had some problem or other

Absolutely love this car. About to turn 6 and never been a minute's trouble. I wish it cleaned itself but I also love crisps and sausage roll lover ds10 so what can you do?!! X

Blueybingo22 · 26/07/2023 15:36

Auto lights I just mean they come on if it suddenly goes dark and rain etc

i live in a rural area with no big show rooms to look at anything so I’m YouTube etc
and will most likely buy online from a dealership or online car supermarket

some of your suggestions look great but I’d need to re look at my budget as alot are over .
what about astras or corsa anyone got any experience with those ?
yes I have auto license so must be auto

I looked a YouTube review of ŠKODA Fabia I like it but I’m not 100 % I like the look of the outside of the car

I have an automatic Seat Arona FR and it has automatic lights and windscreen wipers. It uses VW parts so it's reliable and, overall, I really like it.

Clymene · 26/07/2023 17:14

Astras are fine.

Just watch with auto lights after the car has been to the garage. They always switch them off as otherwise the headlights would be on inside the garage while they are working on it . I regularly forget to put them back on again 😳

Yes they bloody do! They get me every time and I'm so embarrassed to be "that" driver.

For a Ford to have auto headlights, I think you have to get a hi spec. I'd say most have them if you have a high enough spec. I recently had a Skoda Octavia black edition and that didn't have auto headlights or any buttons on the steering wheel.

I have a Ford but I don't think they are built to last really. Reliability you need to go Kia, Hyundai or Toyota really.

FlamingYam · 26/07/2023 17:27

Although tbf my Mondeo is over 100k. I expect 200 from it but it's definitely going to start to cost soon.

Theraffarian · 26/07/2023 17:27

I would also add if your heart was on a Ford Focus then just have a quick check prior to buying anything lease that repairs on the make you go for are in the same ball park . After decades of fords i almost jumped ship on our latest car , until my mechanic told me the price difference in some general repair costs .

DeeLasVegas · 26/07/2023 17:54

Biggest worry of getting a Ford Fiesta/Kuga/Puma etc etc is that they are very high on the list of stolen cars!!

Yes Volvo was owned by Ford for a while. So was Jaguar Land Rover.

19lottie82 · 26/07/2023 18:03

Most have these features these days.

Fords are generally known as reliable so this seems odd to me, was he trying to sell you something else?

Automatic Fords WERE amazing years ago but in the last 10 years are awful.

Avoid ford b max automatic.

Sagaris · 26/07/2023 18:04

There's a definite problem with the Eco Sport engines, the wet belt goes faulty (I'm not an engineer lol) and you end up having to replace the engine. Ford are not sympathetic apparently although it's a known fault. I've owned Fords for years - currently got a Kuga - and I've always been happy with them

junglejane66 · 26/07/2023 18:06

Noodledoodledoo · 26/07/2023 12:46

Heated front windscreen is patented to Ford so not similar on other brands

I've got a heated screen on my Jag

MillWood85 · 26/07/2023 18:15

I've got a VW T Roc and everything is automatic. All you have to do is steer it.

The DSG gearbox is a joy. Never loved a car more.

Can you advise what automatic focus is a good year ? I’m looking at other hatchbacks now but need a car very soon so need to find a suitable one
